• Bad-assery!

  • Wow !

  • That's actually pretty good.

  • Anyone got a download link for this awesome concert? i remember that i once downloaded the whole records somewhere but i lost it and cant remember now...

  • Cool!^^

  • Wow a great variation. I like it :o)

And the sound from the video cam is very impressive. Most of the time are original soundtracks from vidcams pretty bad in such a case.

Thank you for sharing it :o)

  • I want this as an m3 SOOO badly.

  • @thescorp87 *mp3

  • Like it ^^

  • "Commander, you are making SUCH a mistake."

    "I'm getting. my. men."

  • i am very aroused.

  • Hope Bear releases this in high quality someday. The more versions of Prelude to War the better.

  • 4 Cylons dislike this.

  • @Felixia0039 Not quite. Four psychotic rapist Rear Admirals dislike this.

  • I <3 1:45

    :D

To be honest, although I liked the original violin version more than this, the drums really helped make this epic as well, IMO.

  • Call it what you want...I'm getting my men!

  • I am a TRUE BELIEVER!!!

I have been to many a Grateful Dead show and this ranks right up there as Epic.

Inspirational to all those who feel the music.

  • filmsinfocus my msn in profile! Battlestar Galactica Bear McCreary "Prelude to War" Live at Grand Performances 6-13-2009

  • so funny seeing an orchestra where there's people playing violines and someone playing eguitar hoping like a rabbit :> guitar part could have been a little less dominant also ;/ i'd love to see korn cover this song tho. would be amazing :D

  • last part ruined by detuned violin -__-

  • terrible version, sorry Bear. get some live string players on stage to do this

  • the taikos were flawless , awesome.

bear actually gave permission to record? , if so he is awesome

  • The Drums Solo is My Favorite Part, it STILL Raises The Hair in The Back Of My Neck As if I'm Programmed To Go To War, I Think I might Be a Skin-Job Now That I Think About it!!!!

  • Id love to get an MP3 studio quality version of this rearrangement

  • while I do like the rearranged version, I'm happy they tried it since they were unable to get a full orchestra in there, its def an interesting rearrangement of the song and I still enjoyed it quite a bit ^_^

  • I love it... but they need a couple of thrash metal guitarists playing this. One, the distortion is not high enough, so the high range dominates too much. Second, a thrash guitarist would know to PALM MUTE more. It would give it more of the sound that is in the original track. The open notes ring too much. Otherwise, I wouldn't change much.

  • I was a little hesitant to watch this because of the fairly negative comments, but shit I'm glad I did. Yes I like the album version better, but I love the album version so much that my love for this is still abnormally high <3 it's fantastic. I miss the violins a bit, but this is just a different version, and epic in its own way. And fuck it, electric guitars are cool :D

  • Satan is?

  • God is gay!

  • I think the main thing people need to realize is that this was recorded outdoors using a mic. It doesn't sound like it was hooked into the microphones they had on stage.

I was actually at the show and can assure everyone it sounded much better in person. Very powerful.

  • @thecodewerks I think you're right, just camera mic, although a monitor mix would be epic to hear

  • Great effort, but the guitar threw off the flow. I appreciate them trying and thanks for posting. :-)

  • eh I'd p[refer if the distortion on the guitars wasn't quite so great. Their volume also overrides the string instruments. Buuut its still pretty damn awesome

  • This, plus cheese = good time

  • honest to god I hate this version, I'll just go back to listening the one on the soundtrack now.

  • Screw the guitars, Drums made my day.

  • MESMERISING!!!!!!!

  • This is great!!! I mean it! I've heard symphonic version, love it, it is perfect... But this one... seeing all those musicians having great time... and passion while performing it... totally different expirience!!! Great in an uncomparable way !!! Gotta grab my guitar ;)

  • It would've been.. netter* if the guitars had started with sustained notes and not just eighths. It left too much uncomfortable flat sharpness. Wasn't so* bad after 1:43.. but definitely like the orchestral version much better.

They should've had eminence orchestra try to incorporate electric guitars if they wanted them so bad :|.

  • Sorry but this needs to be played by a full orchestra, not a rock band.

I love electric guitars, they definitely have their place, but it's not here.

McCreary needs to go on tour internationally conducting the soundtrack from BSG with a full orchestra, I'm sure it'd be sold out everywhere.

  • cool

  • Well yeah, a multi take studio version is always going to sound cleaner and more polished. But this is LIVE...it would have been stunning to have been there. Makes me want to get in to my Mk II and take out some raiders. Or some badd-ass Admiral that Adama doesn't like lol.

  • I really hated the electric guitars, to be honest. Ruined it for me.

  • Nothing against electric guitars, but i like the version with violins much more, it's simply mor epic!

  • True, very true, but now I'm going to learn to jam this on MY electric guitar! :D

  • Oops, meant Epic.

    I love them Taikos.

  • Comment removed

  • This was my favorite song off of the series, and live it's preformed perfectly

  • You can RARELY... RRRRRRRRRRRRARELY compare an ALBUM version to a LIVE version. I hate when people bring up the words "I LIKED THE ALBUM VERSION THE MOST". NO SHIT! I WONDER WHY?!?!?!?!?! Professional recording equipment on top of one or maybe multiple sound engineers?

Again, this live act is just simply amazing. I would pay good money to see this ensemble live. I don't care if they play something I've heard over and over on a TV show.

  • @joediditagain

Can't deny it, but most people like the album version more because it has the violins in stead of an elictric guitar.

  • @joediditagain But the album version wasn't playing with electric guitars....

  • @joediditagain Hey, Hey, you'll burst a blood vessel, calm yourself.

  • @joediditagain Not just pro equipment and sound engineers ... multiple takes!

  • @joediditagain The Electric Guitar. Violin is a better choice for this piece. Don't get me wrong, I am a metal/rock listener. But electric guitar doesn't have that same 'epicness' for this piece.

  • Oh and far beyond A for effort... Are you kidding me? From a studio production to this? An A is a joke, just like your grammar. I know you're praising this but, I'm sorry, you're just not doing it the justice it deserves.

  • LOL control freak much

  • That was fucking awesome. I wish I was there.

  • Holy Frak that was cool!!! Bear McCreary & his orchestra have massive skills to have pulled this one off Live!!

  • Faaaaaaantastic!!!!! Right around the 2 minute mark.

  • I personally find the original album version impossible to beat, but this is definitely a strong runner-up, especially when the guitars really get going. I would have loved to have been there, thanks for posting!

  • 03:47 those taikos letting rip just kick frakkin' ass!

  • Frakin´ great, Prelude to war is the best song in the series, and this performance proofs it!

  • I love how it's more like a band playing than anything else :P

  • You know, I liked the original orchestral version. It is one of my favorite BSG songs BUT, (and I say this as a violin player) there is something much more bad-ass about this version. It could be hearing string parts on electric guitar. I for one like it.

  • @Trekker1710E

    so say we all

  • were battlestar made into a rock opera, than this would be acceptable

  • Yeh agreed, I think he was trying to make it "Cool" for the audience but it didnt work. There are hardly any violins and taiko drums either. To be fair the music was so well done it must be impossible to pull off live.

  • Exactly. The original song is such a masterpiece man. This is A for effort though, GJ!

  • I thought it was very well done. In fact, I loved hearing it with the guitars. Sure, I love the show/album version more but this was a very interesting and fun version.

  • Agreed! I enjoyed hearing "Prelude" performed this way, with guitars. It gave the song a different twist, that's all. I, too, like the soundtrack version better, but this was still really cool.

  • The guitars ruin what was good about this song.

  • I love this. A nice piece to go with the original not replace it.

  • this song should be played more symphonic...in fact,no need to guitar...

  • that's why bear said he thought it couldn't be done... and he's sort of right it's much better with a pure classical orchestra

    but this isn't bad either

  • Thank you so much for posting this, easily one of my favorite pieces from the show. Beautiful, passionate, epic and awe-inspiring just like the show.

  • I just finished season 2 (awesome!) and the music has improved greatly! This is my favorite piece to date!

  • no doubt about it

  • lol wait till you get to season 3 and 4, the music just gets better and better. It seems to evolve just like the story does.

    enjoy

  • hmm... the guitar in this needs to grow on me a bit more...

  • guitar was WAY too loud, and I hated this. maybe if the sound quality had been better?

But you can really see why he thought this would be undoable live.

    Not with guitars anyway.

  • I wish I could be there, Prelude to War is the best title from Battlestar Galactica <3

  • As the official spokesman for the Admiral Helena Cain/Brother Cavil Fan Club this is a HIGHLY APPROVED VERSION OF AN ICONIC BSG SONG.

Let's face it, Prelude to War is BSG's "Imperial March" and I'm quite all right with that!

    SO SAY WE ALL!

    Inter arma enim silent leges,

    ATMD

  • Im getting my men...

  • i love bsg and i'm gonne miss it =/

  • One of my top 5 favorite BSG tracks. Awesome!!!

  • Awesome. Thanks for sharing :)

  • guitar was too loud vs the violins - but still good

  • I have lived to see a badassery like no other. FRAKTASTICALLY AWESOME. SO SAY WE ALL.

  • i am the god damn cylon god and i fucking approve

  • awesome :)

  • Interesting version. But I prefer the fully orchestral one.

  • man how come i didn't know about this? :/

  • NOW THIS IS AWESOME!!!!

  • Ah! This show was amazing. You're my hero for taping and sharing the video.

  • Thanks for uploading this. Such a great night. Fantastic music and then Katee Sackhoff coming onstage to co-play the piano intro to All Along The Watchtower. Geek heaven!

  • cool
