fantastic, john williams is the best.between superman, indiana jones and star wars this guy has proven himself beyond a shadow of a doubt...indeed the force is strong with this one
@MrGboyx360 Yeah, I got the same feeling. I think they're intentionally going to try to distance MAN OF STEEL from Richard Donner's 1978 classic and Bryan Singer's SUPERMAN RETURNS and part of that will be the absence of Williams' trademark Supes themes. Big mistake IMO...actually, the inclusion of JW's music in SUPERMAN RETURNS was one of the few redeeming parts of that disappointing film.
somehow I doubt it. It'll get an unusual score...or at least something different from the old films. The way James Newton Howard/Hans Zimmer's work was very different from Elfman's old Batman score. It's a reboot...I'd be shocked if it's not vastly different. But hey, nobody can ever take this music away! It lives forever. :)
@STNeish Well I guess you could argue it's not exclusively Christopher Reeve's music since it was used in Superman Returns...but it does signify "old" Superman...There's no way they use the full on score. Maybe a teenie piece somehow..or work it into some new pieces in a creative way...
@dankellyvo It's Superman's theme. Period. And it's so iconically Superman's theme that it was used in all 4 movies with Reeve, Superman Returns, AND throughout Smallville. But we shall see. I'm sure it's being discussed. However, I'm worried they won't use John Williams score because the new movie isn't called superman. It's called "Man of Steel"
@penclartst Hey ya don't have to sell me on it. It's the best piece of film score ever. Was it used in Smallville though? I didn't watch a ton of those shows, but the ones I did, I liked. I just get the feeling it won't be used. Like JJ Abram's Star Trek only had the old TV show theme show up at the end credits. Something like that. As part of a "reboot" or "new coat of paint" on the series, I bet it just gets something new. Sad as that makes me. :(
"His dense molecular structure will make him strong. He'll be fast, virtually invulnerable...and he'll say "What's up, Doc?" indiscriminately, whether he's speaking to a doctor or not."
The Looney Tunes Show actually used the Movie's Main Theme! I like it.
@Gel24Lover It's because any time someone goes to hit dislike, Batman punches them in the face after Superman makes time go backwards so he can tell Batman about it.
@riusu23 *repasted from below* This 2nd part of the show was a tribute to Warner Brothers Studios...So even though it was the Superman theme, the introduction by Frank Langella said "Warner Brothers certainly knows its heroes"....I guess WB didn't want to leave out it's other superhero franchise? Odd, but hey whatever....still awesome to see live!
The very beginning of this really makes me wanna, put on a cape and do good deeds. Save kitties from trees, save puppies, help old people across the street, find a cure for cancers, shelter the homeless....real superhero type stuff.
nice, but I think closed stadiums trap the sound and distort the shape of sound waves, the sound needs to leave the building, the sound bounces back into the instruments, impure
@nudracr Well you're probably right....but this is an open air place...it's called the Koussevitzky Music Shed. Not exactly an amphitheater...It has a ceiling, but totally open in the back and sides. Sounds good to me but I'm not an expert!
AMAZING how this song will forever give me chills. It's just one of those OH SO PERFECT scores. It's perfectly SUPERMAN in every possible way. Just spine tingling stuff.
@icrodriguez7 i remember when i was just a kid with 6 years and lots of whisperings, when i heard for the first time this song, i just barely exploded in emotions, Superman is the best hero of all!
john wiliams is the greatest but he had a pure amazing absolute oscar winning film to work with, he knew before superman was released that it was the greatest superhero classic off all time, no music will compare to this theme, superma is a legend and is far greater than any others, star wars is just nowhere close, listen to the music its hero, whether your british, American..etc... a legend made a legendary soundtrack because he knew it was a legendary movie...SUPERMAN, genius, john GENIUS
I don't know why, when I watch a movie with John Williams' music, It just isn't the same in other media without it! Harry Potter hasn't any more great music like in the first 3 films, Superman isn't as heroic without this theme, Indiana Jones just CAN'T be Indiana Jones without his theme! And let's not talk about Star Wars. This man really puts you on the films through his music, just listening to this theme makes you fell you can save the world!!
@Kamurotetsu Amen! There have been (and there ARE) other great film composers, but there will never be another John Williams. Has ANY theme been more memorable than Superman, Star Wars or Indiana Jones? Don't think so. He's a genius for sure.
This is absolutely INCREDIBLE music, and I've LOVED this ever since it was first released. One question, though - why are they showing Batman scenes on the video screen, when this is clearly Superman music?!?! LOL!! :o)
@dotmacis *repasted from below* This 2nd part of the show was a tribute to Warner Brothers Studios...So even though it was the Superman theme, the introduction by Frank Langella said "Warner Brothers certainly knows its heroes"....I guess WB didn't want to leave out it's other superhero franchise? Odd, but hey whatever....still awesome to see live!
I hate that 'Smallvile' show- but if they put him in the suit and play this music, all is forgiven. There is no reason not to- they own the rights. I wish Christopher Reeve was alive to see it. I grew up with Superman- he will never die in my eyes.
@TheGoldcountry Smallville has actually been pretty good at times, but I've watched only a few shows here or there. It's a totally different approach. And hey as much I absolutely love the Christopher Reeve movies...it's just simply in the past. Chris Nolan has changed the superhero movie forever. For the better in Batman's case....I hope his Superman doesn't get too dark. (Zack Snyder is directing)....I'm just hoping for something really cool. I get the feeling we won't be disappointed!
@dankellyvo I agree about Batman- some people like the 'campy' Batman and Robin, but I like the Batman who looks like he can kick anyone's ass. Superman is different, though. I don't like the current 3d trend, but if anything, it's made for Superman. Imagine being in a big theater and flying. As far as the past goes, this music never gets old. I was 4 years old when this came out, and I'm not tired of it yet.
@TheGoldcountry this music is my favorite ever...I just can't see them using it in a reboot film. No way. But yet I can't hear something totally dark and foreboding like the new Batman score either....Something a little more hopeful, you'd think. We'll just see. I think I trust the people involved, so I'm gonna have to have a little faith in em. Besides it's not like I can do anything about it anyway! :)
@Ironcabbit I think you misunderstood my comment. I grew up with John Williams' music, and I can't imagine a movie without it. I would like to see a different intrepretation of Superman, but the music is one thing I will never get tired of. I listen to it all the time.
@Ironcabbit That's probably a major reason they'll decide NOT to use it. Because they want to "reboot"...Sad, but I'm not expecting to hear this theme at all. Hey its ok. Nobody's gonna come along and steal my CDs! (or mp3s) :)
@dankellyvo I like Nolan's movies very much. But I agree that it shouldn't be too dark. Superman is all about hope, strength, and life. Batman battles evil characters like the Joker- which is fine, I like 'The Dark Knight'. But Superman is all about saving people, and looking for the best. I think the movie is in capable hands.
@TheGoldcountry Yeah...definitely a challenge to make it a "cooler" modern superhero film without getting too dark for the character....I know good people are on the project...but I'm still crossing my fingers! :)
@TheGoldcountry Smallville has its momemts of course i am a big fan of the show so i am biased, I still take christoper reeves as superman, smallville did have the 2 pass the torch episodes the main one being rosetta? i think from season 2 which guest starred Chris reeves. And the lex story fits more who lex really is. I think
This 2nd part of the show was a tribute to Warner Brothers Studios...So even though it was the Superman theme, the introduction by Frank Langella said "Warner Brothers certainly knows its heroes"....I guess WB didn't want to leave out it's other superhero franchise? Odd, but hey whatever....still awesome to see live!
@Sage80 seriously I've wanted to see John Williams conduct this live since I was a little kid but never really knew there were live shows til I found out about Tanglewood. He's done many shows with the Boston Pops/Symphony and other orchestras too I believe...Also the Hollywood Bowl. Really cool stuff for a film music nerd like myself! :)
Great Song :) love superman.....only thing i'd take out is the clapping....i dont care so much to see people clapping honestly....as i can make clapping sounds with my hands at the end XD...
well it's the Boston Pops, not a full Symphony Orchestra...But you can't go by the sound recorded on my phone....It really sounded awesome. Beautiful job by everybody.

@WingZero91 repasting from below:

@WingZero91
Yeah i guess that's because it's DC's most known Comicbook heroes

Best movie theme ever written. Screw Star Wars. If you are an American and you don't like this, you should be deported to a third world country.

@Sage80 I just saw Superman again for the first time in about 20 years, and I teared up during the intro :)

Great Song :) love superman.....only thing i'd take out is the clapping....i dont care so much to see people clapping honestly....as i can make clapping sounds with my hands at the end XD...

Mathew1985AZ 1 year ago
well it's the Boston Pops, not a full Symphony Orchestra...But you can't go by the sound recorded on my phone....It really sounded awesome. Beautiful job by everybody.
