i bet the few lads who were still ther at this point felt like crap knowing ther days were nearly over and that they'd backed the losing side and hadnt jumped ship when they mite of had the chance jus feels so empty and redundant here no real stars who could still fully perform left and what not, isnt it ironic how the guys who made it beat raw for that period like hogan, nash, hall, goldberg etc were knowhere to be found on the last broadcasts
wow I actually remember that episode when Flair kissed that donkey's ass. Lol I definitely watched their dying days when no one else did. Anyone remember the date to this?
Well, whymagic, WCW was a descent product during the days it died, in fact the only reason that it did die was because of AOL merging with Time Warner, which complete cut WCW's funds to nearly 0, purposely so they can sell WCW because AOL "Does not see any interest in wrestling." WCW was descent and good while WWF was doing nasty unpredictable stuff in order to get attention.
True Aol Time Warner actually lowered the price so that they could just get a bargin bin purchase and vince was the one to buy it. Nitro and thunder were actually good in the end they were better than most shows on tbs or tnt it was just because of the fact they lost 95% or their audience and became a money losing millions every year. WWF only won the war because of two things Ted turner wasn't in control no more and they copied ECW's formula while WCW was restricted from doing the same thing.
they were focusing on wrestling.. they had Cruiserweight TAG TEAM TITLES for christ sakes... it was AOL merging with Time Warner that fucked everything up
when ever other match finished with a run-in, thats not a focus on wrestling. Dropping a mysterious "blood" that incapacitates faces, but not heels, is not a focus on wrestling. yeah, the AOL merger was the killing blow, but they had already lost alot of their audience before that with stupid angles (like the nWo Wolfpac swerve)
Umm, WCW was PG during its peak, Nitro turned TV14 after Russo came in. It ain't the rating, it's the product. You can still have PG and not have it watered downed to kiddies and clueless chicks(early Attitude Era, early nWo era, etc.).
Yeah but PG 10 years ago is completely different to what it is today. Censorship is a brothertrucker. It's just easier to run a TV-14 product in my opinion because they have PPVs titled "Extreme Rules" and brands called "ECW", but they're limited to what they can do. I'm not saying it should all be nudity and swearing, but if it's ECW, let it be Extreme.
WCW had competition. WWE don't (don't even dare say TNA are). WWE are generating a young audience because in 10 years time They'll be in there late teens or 20s! Thus more money.
im affraid the glory days are well and truly gone. Olnly hope now is if tna become as big as wcw was and moves to monday nights to compete against raw, but they havent got the money so i doubt it. Personally i dont think wwe will still be going in 5 years time, people are getting a bit bored i think, everything has been done. Ah well we will always have dvds of the the glory days to watch. I just wish they would release some wcw ppvs on dvd so i can finally throw the vhs out!
O yea i have plenty of vhs rec, i dont think its down hill from here i mean thnk about it, whats gnna happen wen taker retired? whos gna do the honors 2 fight him? what would be good 4 the wwe now would be Kane win RR 2010 n make him bring back his mask n pick up thngs from there
The thing is, even after Warner Bros pulled WCW's Tv deal, Bischoff was still able to negotiate another deal with Fox Sports. If a few more weeks had passed he'd have done the deal and bought WCW. Vince knew this and didn't want his competitor to survive so he swooped in and bought it.
everyone says wcw was bad, well rating wise between them and wwe/wwf at that time it was, but it was the highest rating show on tnt and tbs, it was just aol and time warner that didnt want anything to do with wrestling, it was a G rated show because of that compared to the wwf, they pretty much could do whatever they wanted, i also think that the entire yr of 99 was horrible, from 2000-2001 it was slowly getting somewhat better, but then the inevitable came when vince bought wcw when eric was
Do your homework, for 84 weeks straight Nitro beat Raw. WCW emphasized more on the southern style of wrestling rather then bringing out the girls like WWF did and still does today.
Okay the next motherfucker that says i'm a liar i'll report you sorry i didn't know gosh oh dear you take shit to seriously you fucking people who have problems with a fucking mistake SORRY OKAY!
I totally forgot about that whole Dusty/Flair and the horse's ass kissing. I don't even remember how that all came about. Probably a good thing I don't. I usually like watching last moments of WCW because I hated when it went out of business, but now almost 8 years later, I can see why the last moments were so bad and that's just the on air aspect of it all!
Youre right about the little money part. Wrong about Ted Turner. Ted wanted wrestling to be on his channels. He loved it. It helped build his stations. In fact, wcw was supposed to be sold a few times in the early 90s and he said no way.
i dont know this is the same company that forced the nwo down our throats for 4 years. it was like if u turned heel that just meant you joined the nwo. Dustin Rhodes sucks. i wouldnt watch that guy in any level. They have dusty and flair feuding again? They had nothing goin so they made a stone cold steve austin look a like Goldberg was in the biz for like a 6 monthes and he already had the title? I mean at least they made cena wait a few years before the huge run what was next a race/flair run?
Dusty/Flair, Dustin/Jarrett , Goldberg/Magnificent 7, Stiner/Booker T, the return of sting plus tons more...all great storylines wcw had going. If Eric had bought wcw, it would have been amazing.
Thats why vince stepped in. He knew if Eric bought WCW and secured a television deal, and had complete control of what he wanna do creatively, WWF would of been in trouble.
They had a cruisereight title but the cruserweight division sux & the tag team division is almost not existant. World Heavyweight Championship isnt the same belt though...they look damn close but they made a few changes
it had nothing to do with vince, Bischoff had to pull out cos there tv deal was cancelled and his backers pulled out, leaving him unable to afford it. If Vince hadnt bought it it would have just remained a name anyway.
