We'll have to agree to disagree. I think campaigns which link in to events or issues that are already in the public consciousness are clever as they are always likely to have more of an impact as they won't just find resonance with those already engaged on human rights - like yourself, given your past support for AI - they will reach out to those who might otherwiase not be aware of these situations. It's not a case of class - it's a case of clever campaigning.
This campaign criticises ALL parties for human rights abuses in Sri Lanka.
Some of these postings are extremely naive. The EU a Co-Chair of the Peace Process and a key donor in the region.
Just as the EU has banned the LTTE as a terrorist organisation and is cracking down on their fundraising within Europe, the EU has the right to examine human rights violations in recipient countries and, if necessary, stop the flow of aid to governments violating the rights of their own citizens.
How is it naive? I have been a huge supporter of AI in the past financially. I have supported amnesty in all its past endevours but this is clearly short sighted. Carry out a campaign against human rights violations, no problem. Just not at a sporting event! Lacks class.
Before you poke into our country attend the serious HR violalions against Muslims in UK.Muslims are having a hard time in western world,so better to attend what you know from your roots and concerns.
I suggest AI to help homeless people in London and New York genuingly rather than poke into us.They have a hard time in their life.Though they live in so called developed number one countries, having a bad time more than so called displaced people in our part of the world.
While this campaign has provoked and generateda wide range of responses, some of them constructive others less so, the issue of human rights abuses cannot and should not be tolerated in a civilised society irrespective of who is responsible.
We are fully aware that human rights violations should not be tolerated. The sri lankan government is elected by a population of 20 million in a free fair democratic election monitored internationally, all governments past and present have struggled to keep the country in an ecenomic upward movement due to 20 years of war. If you really wan to know what the LTTE is google MS-13, the LTTE is an organized ring of criminals with such a gang problem do you not forsee human rights violations?
Sri Lanka's democratic credentials are well established and a democratic country should be held to an even higher standard. If, however that government carries out human rights violations or fails to protect its citizens the international community has an obligation to step in and protect those people, where appropriate.
I request international community to do their own business at this decisive moment because Sri Lankan people is tring to sweep out terrorism from our country
I think you are playing the game without rules and helping LTTE terrorists unofficially
LTTE is recruting thousands of children to war
The international community never catch this problem correctly. If you want to see the cultural, ethnic, religious harmony visit to government ruled areas in Sri Lanka
In most parts of Sri Lanka Sinhaleese Tamils and Muslims live very peacefully helping each other If you want to see brutality of LTTE visit so called LTTE control areas
Its sad that you blokes are resorting to tarnish a sport that unites sri lanka to carry out Amnesty International's message. Will AI turn up at the Olympics and disrupt Team America like they did at the World Cup games and harass the Sri Lankan cricketers? I would suggest investigating Human rights violations in Iraq and Sudan. Whilst Sri Lanka can concentrate on nuetralising a terrorist organisation that has been allowed by the west to carry out a campaign of terror for over 2 decades.

Rational thinking moderates need to look carefully at whome and what we support rather than jump on the bandwagon.
