  • thank you so much for this!

  • hey.. can you tell me the name of the 7 student here? thanks! pls..

  • Thx for the movie dude! :)

  • I don't see any real discipline at all! All the students doing is just pretended to be disciplined in front of the adults! Sad

  • these boys are now fertilising daffodils <-- MY FAVOURITE QUOTE JDBEJCVHBFD

  • The teachers give very much homework in the beginning, they're kind of a jerks towards their students. RW just handles his students with respect, they may even call him 'captain, my captain'. i would love to have this teacher, instead of the ones I have these days. they give too much homework in comparison with other teachers

  • Gale Hanson's (Charlie/Nuwanda) last acting credit, per IMDb, is from 1998 as "Security Guard" on Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, the worst syndicated show in television history.

    Sad ...

  • i forgot how much i loved this movie when i first saw it. i was in 8th grade and now i am a senior in high school. the characters and the meanings behind everything is so amazing.

  • wow, Robbin Williams character in this movie, reminds me of my Anthropology teacher

  • Thanks for posting this

  • 0:36 Hogwarts lol

  • THE GUY AT 4:20??? EDWARD NORTON?

  • Nuttin' but boys

  • would u by any chance know wat scene this comes from?!

  • @HogwartsCastle Witchcraft? Telepathy? Either way: Read my mind!

  • the look on his face when she opens the door :-)) how many times in our lives we've had the same look on our faces?

  • thanks a lot for posting this.

  • I fucking stayed at the school where they filmed this for 3 weeks. Its amazing

  • Is it just me, or are these guys the cutest nerds ever????

  • @TheArtisticGirl1 not taking dalton in account :D

  • @TheArtisticGirl1 I didn't realize they were nerds.

  • @TheArtisticGirl1 Cameron is cute? lmao

  • 1:26 makes me so happy that I've finished school!

  • THIS MOVIE HAS HORRIBLE SOUND EFFECTS. WHEN THE CREEPY VOICE COMES ON AND WHISPERS CARPE DIEM IT'S OBVIOUSLY ROBIN WILLIAMS WHISPERING THAT. I CAN SEE HIS MOUTH MOVE. THIS ISNT A GOOD HORROR MOVIE AT ALL, ITS MORE OF A DRAMA COMEDY.

  • @DJSexLeopard its not meant to be a horror film and they wanted to make it seem like its him for humors sake. did you even watch the movie!

  • @qurooj

i could be wrong but i believe he was employing something called "sarcasm".

  • @defiantwon33 which in-fact does not work well when in text...

  • @TheRunningblade

...only for the ignorant, whom likewise wouldn't get it when vocalized as well. mmmkay, cupcake?

  • @DJSexLeopard lol good joke

  • My chem teacher always shows us the carpe dium part on the first and last days of the semester

  • 11 ppl didnt seize the day

  • @ab0ut99gaming good for you you worm

  • 11 people did not seize the day.

  • Awesome film, thanks for the upload. Makes me realise when i worry about things that you just gotta seize the day.

  • Great movie. Anyway, from the look of it, I think the setting would be around New England.

  • I LOVE PITTS!

  • Todd - Ethan Hawke... so cute!

  • Just now caught the tragic foreshadowing at 5:17...."Each and every one of us in this room is, one day, going to stop breathing...turn cold...and die"....right as the camera focuses on Neil :(

  • @Mrbluetide

10 minutes in and i already know Neils going to die, sound :P

  • @Mrbluetide SPOILER, MUCH?

  • when keating first called pitts' names I thought he said "Mr. Piss"

  • Youtube's Transcribe audio just spit out "car paid deals" instead of carpe diem.... xD

  • I´ve always been wondering, isn´t the real term "cape diem" without the r? it comes from the latin word "capere" and as far as I know the imperative doesn´t have an r, but I might be wrong :)

  • @DragonStyler3117 I've used the phrase 'carpe diem' around my Latin nerd friends and they never said anything to the contrary, and I know at least one of them has 1000 note cards on Latin words so I'm fairly certain 'carpe diem' is correct

  • @sunnieheart1 Ok Thanks, now I know for sure.

  • Omg, does anybody else besides me think that Todd is really cute? :)

  • youtube's transcribe audio is really entertaining...

    (whispers) "...destroy..."

  • 1:05 the latin pronunciation is quite horrible, except for this detail great movie :)

  • Comment removed

  • Carpe Diem!..... Love that part! <3

  • @JVoH4god .....one 'conjugates' verbs....and 'declines' nouns....;)...agricola is a noun...it is latin for 'farmer'..

maybe i should get out more..:D:D....

  • @naveenikita I learned that in Spanish class. >.>

I wish we could take Latin though. :/

  • man mr. keating is such a great teacher.....public high school across america needs better teachers like these....i know if were to become a teacher, i could be as good as mr. keating........robin williams did a good job acting as a great teacher.......good job man!

  • lol, I just love the scene when they're declinating the latin verbs. it sounds so different from what I did (lessons in german)

  • 2:21 the students are like "wtf?" lol

  • Extraordinary life lesson! It is filled with /seasoned with the core ingredients: motivation, encouragement and hope.

This is a film my ex-students still mention these days...

  • seems gay

  • @Razersun your cool, faggot

  • @SnipeMaster2928 clearly youve gleaned much from this film.

  • we are food for worms lads................ WAKE UP CALL! classic movie that hits from all angles.

  • I went to a school like this (Austin Friars, Carlisle) and remember sneaking out at night to go and see this in town. It had a huge effect on me then and although now I see it as slightly trite at the time I thought it of great importance.

    Thanks for posting.

  • @mickety2001 i also, quite recently, attended a school like this. (poole house, durham) and i found this film to be very inspirational.

but i dont think that just because time has passed, it now is trite.. it's just as inspirational and affecting to students today, as it was to you back then.

  • Where's all the minorities

  • @quest8899

Really? That's your qualm? This was a movie based in the 1950s in a New England suburb based around a preparatory school populated by only those who fit the standards set forth by that administration. Had nothing to do with color, rather, educational abilities and those who could foot the bill.

  • What song was he whistling?

  • @comediancentralmusli Tchaikovsky, 1812 Overture (Finale)

  • stupend

  • my english teacher is just Mr. John Keating im lucky i think

  • I have three teachers who are like Mr. Keating. Amazing teachers that inspire me to be better than the cookie cutters schools want us to be

  • "let's go, boys, that means you, dalton!!" Charlie's face at that made my day xDxD

  • Its hard to have a teacher like Keating in this day and age,

the U.S. education system has become incredibly conservative and get their panties in a bunch when teachers come along who press their students to ask questions.

  • @008fox That is because it isn't education it is indoctrination. I hope more people will choose autodidacticism.

  • I say boo to all those who dont like this movie...get a life.

  • never forget this

  • WILSON!!!

  • @HogwartsCastle I couldn't have word it better myself :D

  • who's the actor that plays Neil?

  • @CosmicHorse95 Robert Sean Leonard :) He also recently plays Dr. James Wilson in HouseMD.

  • Carpe diem. ^-^

  • I had a teacher like Keating.

She was the one who introduced my class to this movie-and opened our eyes to poetry.

She had a wonderful baby boy in may.

    I want her back

  • i have respect for most teachers, even those that fail. to even survive a week in this profession is an undertaking.

  • @zackhanscom Thank god someone like you exists! My mom was a teacher and it's no cakewalk.

  • i love you for posting this!

    Seriously.

    I do.

  • *opens the door* "Can I help you?" "Umm hi, can you have my babies? UM! I mean - Hi, Knox Overstreet." xD

  • 9:30 , i love boys that make that expression when they see something beautiful.

  • hey arne, Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucker!

  • thanks a lot! our teacher Ms.

Cristou loves this!!! we'll watch it in english class...

  • carrrpeee diem...........

  • who is that at 6:48?

  • maybe sieze the day is the wrong message to high school kids. maybe....

  • @lmsypj what do you mean by this? everyone should seize every moment they can.

  • you have got to break with tradition

  • @TreasureSeekerX I wouldn't quite agree. I'd say you've got to break with bad tradition and keep the good. ;)

  • LOLZ

  • I never did well in school until Mr. Sitler and Mrs. Dimmsdale came along, they inspired me to do well in school, even put the idea of college in my head. Mrs. Dimmsdale retired and I left my old high school leaving behind Mr. Sitler, after that it wasn't the same, no inspiration, no motivation.

  • i went to the 10 cent store to buy some socks...but the woman there felt sorry for me and let me have them for 8. I still can't decide who got the better end of the deal.

  • I could never go to a school like this, i would fail miserably. lmao

  • Such teachers are very rare. Many times these days teachers work for the money, not for wanting to teach.

It's sad. I want more of those teachers. Really.

  • Anyone else break into a stirring rendition of "Seize The Day" from Newsies as soon as Mr Keating said "Carpe diem"? Anyone? No? Just me then. All righty...

I, too, had a teacher like him. I owe every A that I got to her :)

  • I had a teacher like this. She was amazing; she realy changed my life.

  • I have a teacher like Mr. keating. He was great. and now, since its summer in the philippines, I hope he will be my teacher next year. :)

  • aww Ethan hawke in this film!!♥

  • I have a teacher like that..she is my Drama and English Literature professor at the University..we're performing Tennessee William's "Sweet Bird of Youth" and then we will be studying Shakespeare and she is the one who is coordenating all of these things..she is amazing..she makes you want to enjoy life more.."Carpe Diem" indeed..5 seconds talking with her and you feel like you can do anything..

  • Aww Todd's little accent at 7:58 is so cute!

This is like, the most inspirational movie ever. Neil just seems like the perfect roommate and friend, Todd's just too cute and shy, Charlie's funny, but deep down really cares, Meeks and Pitts are pretty nice, and Knox seems like a really good friend, even if he is a hopeless romantic. And Cameron...yeah well, we won't talk about him. I've always wanted to just teleport myself into this movie...if Welton accepted girls that is...

  • @MewMinto34 EXACTLY how i feel!!! i literally thought the same thing...wishing welton temporarily accepted girls :) i love ALL of them (but cameron) if only i were part of this movie :(

  • @MewMinto34 Which of the characters is Charlie?

  • @DragonStyler3117 1:06 He's the one on the left.

  • @MewMinto34 Ah thanks. I kind of mixed up Charlie and Cameron :D

  • My philosophy teacher is just the same as Mr.Keating...this might be the moment to mention that my teacher's an (ex) pot-Head xD non the less the BEST teacher I've ever had :) He and well Mr.Keating inspired me to be a teacher as well.and i already Know that I'd do anything to become such an amazing teacher as Keating ...even though he's a fictional character xD thnx for uploading ;)

  • I had a teacher like Mr. Keating.

    He moved to Austria.

    I miss him.

  • I have a teacher right now that reminds me of him: my A.P. English teacher. He's awesome!!

  • "...phalanx of pubescence." Quality! :)

  • any normal class would laugh about dis teacher

  • If by normal you mean "special", i guess your class would laugh at DIS teacher. <.<

  • Every student needs a teacher like Mr. Keating who opens his mind. Was a very sad day for me when she left the school and my affection to classic poetry died with her replacements, who couldn't reach her level in the slightest.

  • Absolutely

  • i think too much emphasis is put on the teacher, even at this age in the movie, to hold the students hand and lead them along. saul williams says, "your current frequencies of understanding outweigh that which has been given for you to understand; the current standard is the equivalent of an adolescent being restricted...to a diet of apple sauce and crushed peers." -- teachers will only show you to the door; the journey is yours.

  • my senior, i fell apart due to some personal problems. i became more rebellious. my eyes opened to certain things, but it also could be said that i closed my eyes at other things - chiefly my responsibilities and priorities. i repriortized. one day in Lit class my teacher, who hailed from south carolina, decided that it was necessary to read a poem by yeats with an irish accent. i made up my mind right then and then there that school was bullshit, and i didn't return.

  • i woke up every morning and caught the bus, went to school, but immediately left for a nearby cemetary where i'd hang out all day reading poe, whitman, emerson; i wrote poetry, stories, and a play. was i worth it? i failed and was forced to attend summer school to graduate - fuck yes it was worth it. i made up my mind for something i believed in (even if my beliefs might have been skewed). i followed my heart without remorse. carpe diem.

  • @defiantwon33 Respect - thats cool that just did your own thing.

  • @defiantwon33 Respect. Thats cool that you did your own thing.

  • @defiantwon33 That's the gayest shit I've ever heard. Did you just make that up?

  • @italiaholic

that's your opinion, dude. and of course you're entitled to it.

that was my journey, man. i chose the path i thought was best. this is what being a 'rebel' means. didn't you get the memo? being a rebel doesn't mean going around with a negative attitude, calling everything 'gay'. that's called being 'dipshit'.

but, then, that's just my opinion...and you're damn right, i'm going to impose it.

  • @defiantwon33 Yeah. I am the same way. I am the type that sneaks out during a social event by myself just to get away from the chaos and find a more simple place to ease my mind.

  • @defiantwon33 That's one of the greatest paragraphs I ever read. Curious... Ever have anything published?

  • @BrandonLA1

haha. i hope you're just being sarcastic because there are quite a few typos. but to answer your question, no, i have never been published. i do enjoy writing poetry though. thanks for reading.

  • @defiantwon33 Oh, it's not about the typos... It's about the point you were making. Check out the site Duotrope if you don't know it, and switch the setting at the top to 'Poetry'. Maybe it could serve as a good engine.

  • @defiantwon33

where did you find the courage to do it? i wanna know...i want to be exactly like that. i have my heart set on something but everything around me pulls me away and i dont know how ill survive...not to mention im attending a girls boarding school next year :\ any suggestions? and how old are you now?

  • @Smallville357

i wouldn't call it courage -- even a cowardly private can be the first to pick up his gun and charge an enemy after listening to bullets fly over his head long enough. it's a matter of how much you are willing to take before you attempt to affect a change; but also bearing in mind, the change you might affect could serve to produce a worse situation than the one from whence it sprung.

  • i don't really know about your situation, but i suppose i would offer you the same advice that mr. keating offers neal in regards to his father and the play: if you don't like the situation, talk to them about it. tell them how you feel. any additional steps would depend on your age, and other things.

it should also be known that sometimes in life we need to 'suck it up and drive on'. it's difficult, i know.

    as for me, i'm 35.

  • @defiantwon33

    wow....

i talk to my mum a lot about all of this and shes exactly the same but i think she only really cares about being "an artist" and "standing out" that doesnt bother me whatsoever. if youre special, you dont have to do anything/ people will just see it. anyway, ive spoken to her but my only two options are to stay here (in possibly the most depressing inescapable prison on earth) or go to boarding school. but i dont want to do either....and shes not giving me any more options

  • @Smallville357

personally i'd go for the boarding school. get out of the house for a bit. might put things in perspective regarding your own personal "Denmark". life rarely gives us perfect conditions, so we must make the best of what we got. good luck.

  • @defiantwon33

yeah...but sure the best solution for my torture isnt time.....time takes forever! but thanks for the advice. to me, you could ace all your classes and earn a phd in physics (dunno what that actually means haha), but not many ppl id know with these things would seem smarter than you, the one who did whatever he could to avoid it. ahahaha funny that?

  • @Smallville357

to a certain 'degree', degrees are overrated: someone spends up to or upwards of $250,000 for a degree they'll never use; somebody else goes out and gets a library card for a dollar and reads voraciously on the topics which interest him.....who's smarter? i personally don't agree with the relationship between education "and getting a good job". that idea is a plague on society.

  • ....i'm not really sure why you think i avoided education. i never once said that. what i did was rebel against the idea that an education was what i was being offered in high school. it wasn't -- kids are being conditioned to fall in line. a majority of teachers do not teach to educate; they teach to keep their pass/fail ratio in good standing so they can continue to have a job. retention means nothing to most of them. naturally, there are exceptions, but they are few and far.....

  • @defiantwon33

exactly! ive learned so much more reading edgar allan poe than i ever had sitting in class listening to a teacher babble from a textbook....if you dont mind my asking, what do you do now??? you dont have to answer at all, its just interesting to me :)

  • @Smallville357

i'm self-employed. i teach private english lessons in bangkok, thailand.

  • @defiantwon33

oh wow...yeah. im thinking that someone like you is too good for school teaching :) thats really interesting! good for you :D

  • @Smallville357

i get it. nice. had your fun?

  • @defiantwon33

wait what??? what are you talking about! im being serious! i love thailand. bangkok was fantastic and fun and lively! i dont understand what you're talking about! i think its absolutely amazing how you've taken your life into your own hands. there was zero sarcasm or cynicism in any of what ive said. honest! scouts honor! i think it reallly is amazing. and im sincerely happy you know what you want in life and thats gotten you as far as actually BEING happy. a rarity for society :)

  • @Smallville357

i suppose you think you're pretty clever. very witty. but consider: i empathized with you. i tried to offer you advice betwixt the masque of your feigned sincerity. my own personal opinions were: what the fuck is this little girl whining about? --- so i suppose we're both guilty of masqued sincerity. but whereas you are a-little-girl, i am a grown man. i have kids. tell me, what school of logic do you hail from that promotes the idea that, in Thailand.....

  • @Smallville357

  • ....to work for a school i could max my salary out at maybe about 50,000 baht/month, or i could increase that sum to 200,000 baht by doing what i do....hmmmm. run along little girl. the world is a little bigger than your high school campus.

  • @defiantwon33 You said BANG COCK

  • @DJSexLeopard

    i bang cock in bangkok.....

  • @defiantwon33 oh yeah. You like to bang cock?

  • @DJSexLeopard

    song lyrics, dip....

  • @defiantwon33 dont start with me mother fucker

  • @DJSexLeopard

    yeah whatever, killer. carry on.

  • @defiantwon33 always got to get the last word huh

  • @DJSexLeopard

    not always.

  • @defiantwon33 alright then shut the fuck up then.<----

  • @DJSexLeopard

you're such a tough guy for a faggot named 'dj sex leopard'.

  • @Fralinur123 I'm sure it would've been strong of you to continue pursuing poems; unless your teacher was the only reason for your affection in them.

  • @Fralinur123 i'm very happy, i have teacher like Mr. Keating. btw. i watched this film on my polish lesson :D (i'm from Poland)

  • I use to have a teacher like mr. keating <3 ah those were fun times.

  • "Let me urge you now not to test me on this point" Hager rocks lol

  • i wish i had a teacher like him in high school, all my teachers sucked

  • @wargod123480 oh don`t be too depressed about it. i don`t have such a teacher either^^

  • @wargod123480 true that my friend.

  • @wargod123480

i am very happy because in my last two years in school i got a teacher like mr. keating....

  • @vicvanus lucky guy! i've had a string of unenthusiastic poetry teachers.

  • @wargod123480 C'mon now....if we truly had teachers like that in HIGH

SCHOOL we would have done everything in our power to evade them!

90% or more of high school students don't have a "passion" or maturity

level to permeate the clutches of the disease known as peer presure and

overpowering ridicule that is coupled along side with it.

  • @pimpyourhideontube

Most do. Most also need motivation, which is what this movie portrays.

  • @pimpyourhideontube

True, but I think this movie, or the idea of this movie, inspires the 10% that would die for that daily motivator of a teacher. Especially in the world we live in; you're right about that 90%, and they sure know how to bring everyone(including themsevles down).

    YAWP!

  • @pimpyourhideontube

    you mean like Cameron?

  • @pimpyourhideontube Depends what school you went to I suppose...

  • @wargod123480 my Polish teacher (i'm from Poland) is kinda like him :P

  • @wargod123480 i remember high school; all the teachers sucked except my english and chemistry teachers
