  • so 'illegal' immigrants are not O.K, but highly underpaid, possibly American-hating 'legal' immigrants on H1-B visas are ok?

You, Sir, will destory America long before the illegals from south of the border will.

  • Hey the Heritage Foundation shows its liberty side for once.

  • Dummy! Software engineers are computer programmers; Support Staff are Technical Staff. This guy does not know what he is talking about. Expansion of stock value is why CEOs want to hire H1-Bs. Taxes to Americans in these jobs = taxes paid by H1-Bs. No one is expanding - I don't see WFB locations in India!

  • Leokuan, your line of thinking is feeble at best. You need to take ECON 101 and learn about supply and demand. Business is lobbying for an increase in h1b visas so they can increase the supply of labor, and hence bring down wages. End of story. Morons like yourself serve a valuable role in passing along the nonsense that pro-business types like Bill Gates wants us all to believe.

  • Businesses are in need of unskilled workers too.

  • they come with a masters and work for 20k a year

  • ether raise the cap, or offer more money for education so we don't need to import are skilled worker base.

  • Fringe'element"fries & My'whatevertheheck":

You want to know why nutters get no respect? They go into intelligent forums having no clue how to respond to things they should be formed up and clear on, but yet find the half ounce of mind space to prattle on about the most inconsequential nonessentials. You nutters... blah, blah, blah blah... bleh!

  • The heritage foundation has no legitimacy or authority. Right wing elitists suffer from a shared mental disorder which makes them think that they couldn't possibly be wrong while in fact everything around them is in chaos and the russians have surrounded berlin. Time to take your cyanide capsules you loons and shoot yourselves because the end of the republican party is near. All is lost! All is lost! Abandon hope all ye who enter here.

  • I bet if we did that with doctors we'd have lower medical costs, there's actually a quota on immigrant doctors. We should of course also invest in training and educating our own American workforce so there's less of a need to import labor.

  • Unfortunately, H-1B law lacks adequate safeguards to protect US workers from being displaced and is abused to provide cheap labor. Although requirements say employers must pay the "prevailing wage," numerous loopholes mean there is little real-world wage protection for either US citizens or the H-1B guest workers. Moreover, employers almost never have to certify that no qualified U.S. workers are available before hiring an H-1B. Certification is nearly an automatic rubber stamp.

  • When an attorney at a legal ceremony explained how to use the H1-B visa program to hire foreign high tech workers instead of Americans, it got YouTubed. In the video, Lawrence Lebowitz of Cohen & Grigsby, breaks down a technique that lets U.S. companies hire foreign workers under the government's Program Electronic Review Management process. Lebowitz and other lawyers in the video show detailed ways for companies to legally reject American applicants.

  • See, I agree with your over all premise... the problem is we place too much emphasis on corporate sovereignty, but national sovereignty should come first. If companies are allowed to ship out jobs, of course we have to fill it with what's left - illegals! If there was a legislative filter on what got shipped out - or if congress had to approve the move? Publicly, that greater public accountability would most certainly stem the tide of frivolous exportation of jobs as far as I am concerned.

  • Point made, in the Constitutional provision of "providing for the common defense and promoting [not providing for] the general welfare" - somewhere in the mind of liberal [f]lawmakers, such as the blood-lust for power that they will cater to the lowest common denominator to get power, and thus their downward spiral. H-1B needs to consider the viability of national security solutions first before corporate profit, but real solutions run deeper than this.

  • amen

  • Though I understand the premise, I counter with this... I lived in Europe for a while and are very anti-American. They will go out of their way to hire anyone but an outsider because the fragile economics of Marxism will old hold if you control who the players are. Here we let any old anyone get in... our jobs and economy or for us first, then if no qualified insider can fill it, then by all means, open the inquires for outside fulfillment. The same for so-called outsourcing.
