He brought balance to the Force by ultimately killing Sidious in the end. He killed many Jedi, then balanced it out by killing the source of evil that compelled him to do so.
He only killed Qui Gon's Master not his Apprentice, Obi-Wan transformed himself into pure Energy as a Spirit before Vader could strike the killing blow.So Obi-Wan never actually died, he became Immortal in the Force because Qui Gon had showed him how to do that when he came back as a Ghost in Episode III at the very end.Remember Yoda told him how to communicate with him from beyond the Grave so he could learn the secret.

It said he was Suppose to Destroy the Sith not the Jedi. Which he did Destroy the Sith in the end. He had a major screw up for a while.
