This had to be one of the greatest games in NCAA finals history, At least this video makes it!!! Outstanding and UNC need to put that Heel Foot back on the side of them shorts!! Great VID!!!
Everyone always recalls Jordan's iconic last shot from the wing, but his basket before that was absolutely incredible: a lightning fast drive from the wing, leaving his defender nailed to the floor, and finishing with a left-handed rainbow layup high off the glass in Ewing's face. Both of those shots were a glimpse of where Jordan was headed: to GOAT.
lets play count the nba players in this one game...unc, u had 3. georgetown, u had 3 (ewing, floyd and bill martin).. u had 3 hall of famers (ewing, mj and worthy).. how many times can we say that nowadays with these one and out kids?
im like waiting on jordan to start busting out a 60 point game and all i hear is WORTHY! EWING...another goaltending! lol those two were killing though
If they Would Have Had The Three Point Line.. It Probably Would've Been A Different Result Or Higher Score & Patrick Ewing Had Such A Pure Shot For A Big Man Which Is Missing In Todays Game - We Hardly See two or Three Great Players On One Team That Can Dominate a Game Anymore
i have a coca-cola north carolina championship bottle from this game with the coke still in it :) bought it off ebay .... there still should be some for sale on there. $4 i think?
Patrick Ewing had FIVE goaltends??? And UNC won by a point? Just think if Ewing had been a little smarter... Georgetown buries UNC early... Jordan doesn't hit the game-winning shot... he doesn't develop into the player he became. How interesting!
Ewing was goaltending on purpose early on. Think it was an interview, anyhow, they said he did it for the intimidating factor. It doesn't matter if the shot is going in or not, I'm going to block it anyway mentality.
@sbeallvln I agree totally. If Ewing played smarter, Hoyas would have won easily. Probably by about 6-10 points. Too bad. You know all of those goaltends would not have gone in.
This was probably one of the best and most exciting NCAA basketball championship games ever played. Georgetown probably should have won--mental error. Ewing was unbelievable in this game--one of his best in the 4 years at Georgetown. Sleepy Floyd's up fake then double clutch jumper in the lane was one of the best plays of the game. Carolina would have been blown out w/o Worthy.
I'm just glad Worthy made it into the HOF as well a an all-time Top 50 selection because his career regular season numbers didn't quite reflect it (he was mainly the 3rd option for crying out loud-lol!!!), but when the playoffs came around he was THE GO-TO MAN on offense and in his prime only the very best defensively could ever contain him (or tried to, haha). What he did in the '88 finals against Detroit is now the stuff of legend. Made Magic look so damn good all those years...
James Worthy.....big game James..he played his ass off in this game.....my favorite player while playing in high school...wore #42 because of Worthy, one of the 20 greatest players of all time, nobody could guard his first step, quickest in the history of the league
Thompson didn't mind Ewing's goaltends, because he thought it would create some intimidation on the part of Carolina players later on. Whether it was the right thing to do is debatable... most of the goaltended shots would have fallen anyway.
brown did'nt cost them them the game..it's those stupid goal tending that ewing made..what a real idiot!..and thompson did not even tell patrick to cut that crap out...essentially its coach thompson's fault that did the hoyas in..
the most important shot Michael Jordan made in his life.....and probably the most biggest shot in basketball history....MJ hitting the game winner for the '82 NCAA Championship! this shot and being cut from his high school team were the roots to what made Michael the greatest player of all time....but Ewing and Worthy were really ballin' good, I guess after Jordan made the shot....he surpassed their stardom!
Great Video. This one is for all the Carolina fans.

Super-Great Upload ChicagoBulls92! And you had 3 seconds to spare!
Worthy was the man in that game, and only he and Jordan played very well. Game was close all the way through.
Also in 1976 (I think it was) Dean Smith and John Thompson coached the USA college players to gold at the Olympics.
I'll save this to my Best of the 80s Playlist. Thanks!
