Can't watch this without a cursor on the pause button! It brings back good memories from the trip going the other way on this route in 1986. 3 adults, 3 kids, 3 tandems. Oh, if only video cameras had been smaller in 1986! Thanks for compiling this and putting it online!
Awesome clip, Bret.. Wish I coulda met up with you guys.. I circumnavigated the US last year. 33 states 11,000 miles 210 days on the road.. it was fricken awesome.. I ride for MS too in RI.. I would love to be a part of this group! hit me up on facebook. Bricam78@gmail.com.
yeah, i would like to amend it a tad and add in a state pic, even if just a black screen and the State name, to let people know when we changed states. good call
Very Cool video. My wife and I just purchased TransAm maps and are getting ready for a similar ride this summer. We got really excited watching this video. We got into riding doing the bike MS fundraisers the last few years. Nice efforts on the fundraising! "bierefrommars" The music is from a band called Railroad Earth. amazing musicians
Excellent, you have made a great choice for an epic adventure. Just remember to keep your eyes, ears, and minds open to everything. Gotta love Rail Earth, keeps it in perspective. Have a great time guys!!
This is am amazing job of capturing a cross country ride. I have done 2 solo rides and would love to better understand what camera and mount you used. Congratulation on a job well done.
Well, I searched online a bit for some ideas. Found one that utilizes an HVAC hanger, looks likes a U with a screw that tightents to close the U, which went around my handlebar, and a hole at the top where, from there, I made my own set up. I had to make it about 4 inches tall to get over my handlebar bag. I want to design a better one for this summer. If I find some pics of my "dashboard" I'll post them. Thanks for your interest!!
I've done a lot of on-bike photography and video-making, and yours just blows me away! Awesome job! Again the two questions... did you automate the photo taking somehow? and, who's the music?
Hey, Thanks! That means a lot. Well when the roads were smooth I left my camera screwed in the mount and just took a few pics every few miles. When the roads we rough I just did it by hand and kept the camera in my handlebar bad. The Key though, is making sure to keep the horizon as horizontal as possible and at the same elevation in the image, also to keep the center point the same, i tried to use the white line for this. Thanks for watching!!
It was an incredible trip, that why decided to go back this summer, 2010, as a route leader. The music is from Railroad Earth and I was trying to get the tempo of the song to match the changing of the images. Thanks for the comment!!

Any chance on a 12 minute and 36 second version? Things flipped by just a little to fast for me.
Great concept though!

it's a cheap part, like $1 and got it from Home Depot. pretty much assembled the whole thing at HD.
