You don't get paid to fight, In the street it should be a mantra. The street as no rules. You don't know, who's who & what they capable. There's no bell to tell you when to start and no ref to stop a knock out or submission. MMa is great, but it's mostly entertainement & fighters as rules to follow. In the street finish the fight as quick as possible combined whatever martial arts, pressure & nerves point,self-defense and ect.. Just make it back home alive for your love ones.
@arimanaz Been in a street fight with a couple of gang member muggers lately? Theyre pretty hysterical as well. I leave the calm soothing classes with incense in the air to the Yoga people.
Well, I do similar techniques, but without hysteria. I know some MT fighters who can beat the shit out of your "gang member" without any expression in their face. Being calm is not being passive or slow. And yes, I have been in a street fight with a couple of Russian "gopnics" and that is much worse than your hysterical gang members.
@arimanaz Muay Thai in the streets? Muay Thai doesnt teach touch and go, fingers to the eyes, its just another fighting/sparring sport art..but whatever...VAJ is not a fighting system so all you guys who want to turn a street mugging or attack into a FIGHT, have already lost, but good luck anyway in all endeavors, and if anyone has any doubts Prof James gives his Dojo address for anyone to drop on by.
@arimanaz My only point to your comment really is I see it as impossible to put too much intensity into training for a street self defense scenario, and that its not about 'techniques' really at all, VAJ is a system of defense concepts. But if you've already got it all covered, then thats great.
All that stuff looks easy when applied on a compliant student, but it's a different story when you try to apply it against a moving attacker that intends to do you harm.
Professor Vee always stated that there is no one superior martial art, but there are superior martial artists. So with that being said, no one art has all of the answers, you just have to train so that you will get the ability to get the first shot in and the last shot in.
@Patfromlogan I agree with you wholeheartedly. And with that biding said that does not mean what you are seeing with this technique would not work if applied properly. We spar at VAJ as well, we cross trained, so your point is not loss on us. At my first class many years ago it was drilled into me that a man, woman or child is not going to stand their and allow you to perform technique without a counter attack, resistance and simply kinetic movement. Professor always states that you have
I've been teaching "self defense" for over twenty years. This man knows what he's talking about. No one is the know all-be all-end all of self defense, but this man needs to be listened to for his practicality and simplicity in technique. Much respect.
i am wondering if most of you know that martial art means military art. it wasnt about self defense. it was about surviving the battle, and making sure your enemy didnt come back after you. yes sometimes you dont have to kill or injury your opponent, but sometimes you do. that is why you have options, and this video stresses options.
Concerning his 'arrogance', while I don't know the man personally, I can tell he speaks with the authority and confidence of someone who's been there. A lot of old school NYC instructors had that attitude. They were/are the sweetest people to know but you could feel the depth of faith they had in their teaching. And this is coming from a NYC martial artist who's been training since 1978, coming out of one of the worst parts of Brookyn, so please don't mistake me for a novice speaking out of tur
What most people fail to understand is there IS a time and place for such techniques as a head stomp. No one's saying it's necessary everytime but unless you practice it, when the time comes, and it's necessary, you won't be able to and you might end up dead. If you can incapacitate the dude without it, cool, but you never know
By The way! I'm not trying to be negavite about the system but there are things on this video that are a little too much like stomping on the head.. Its about defense, not killing the guy. Because thats a 90% kill. broken neck.
THE SYSTEM works.. Our Security Guard is trained in Vee-Arnis-Jitsu and speakes highly about Professor James.
1:30 mmmh very arrogant and condensending. This is very disrespectful from you professor james. I saw an other video of you where you seam to get aggravated as you talk to the camera explaining the system.. its like you are calmed then you start to boil into it and your voice get louder and louder.
I know very well people that have trained here but I just don't like your condensending ways... The system works tho!
Maybe I'll stick to something less (I wanna kill) martial art.
also murder.. if you do that you break the keck, then you run for the police.
I'm not saying nothing agaist the system but that's too drastic.. That was a KILL move.. maybe if you are in the middle of a battle in some war.. but here in the US is called murder.
I know him from people that trained with him. All very effective moves and some are very evil to me.. like the stomp on the head while the guy is already down..
What i love about Master James and all the old skool martial artists of his ilk including my sifu Ralph Mitchell, is that their whole focus was SELF DEFENSE PERSONAL DEFENSE SELF PROTECTION not tournament fighting. and they did this from the SIXTIES down through to the new millennium and have now come full circle after everyone else is gone.and STILL to this day they have NEVER gotten their props from the martial arts elite. Its a CRIME.
@GuamKomudo you heard what he said. Look him up and go there let him knee you in the face and lets see what you do. I am sure he will post it on you tube.
I'm just saying, he acts like this is the only move that works, and like it has no flaws. I'm sure he has more moves and knows how to fight. But I cannot see this working on someone who knows how to fight. I'm a martial artist myself, and I am pretty experienced in how a fight works, not saying I'm good at it, but I know that it doesn't have set combos, lots of things can screw up a set combo. If this set move worked so well, we would see stuff like this more in martial arts fights
@GuamKomudo really. I can see it working. 1st off martial artist vs martial artist? In the street. That shouldn't be happening anyway. You must be a mma guy. This is a self defense clip. That means Practitioner vs criminal or thug. Guess what? They don't have on a cup or knee pad. so again. I'd like to see you go to his address and let him blast you in your groin or knee when you are not expecting it and see you fight off the knee afterwards. i want to see it.
I'm guessing you don't know that most thugs and street people won't fight you unless they feel they have a huge advantage over you. Like if they have a gun or a knife, and they are going after a 17 year old girl. I dout many people have tried to jump this badass black dude, he looks scary. Not saying he doesn't know how to fight or anything, I'm just saying this technique done by him, will NOT be the same done by a 17 year old girl. And if you think Martial artists don't mug, go to Asia...
@GuamKomudo I not in Asia. I'm in NY and Martial Artist don't mug people here. I'm pretty sure this video isn't for people in Asia either. Why couldn't a 17 yr old girl hit someone in the face kick them in the groin then knee them to the face and run? Seems simple and effective to me. You say you are a martial artist. Why not post one of your tech and let us compare which is more practical and effective
I never said I was a badass martial artist, that's just what you implied... And I never said a 17 year old girl couldn't, I said she would have a harder time doing it than a full grown man and it would be alot weaker than the black dude doing it. I am a Karate and kickboxer, but in real life if you're attack me or my friends or gf whatever, I'm going to stab you with my knife before I try to use my kickboxing or Karate.
LOL His color has nothing to do with a technique that works. He can be a big Arab man or a Big Russian who cares?. Also a kick in the groin, is a kick in the groin let a 7 year old kick you in the groin and see how it feels.
P.S Stab away at some unarmed guy. Make sure you are ready to pay the price. You will pay the price. You talk foolishness. As if you are so willing to go to prison..
First off, I didn't say because he's black he is better, I said the black guy in the video, so you know I'm talking about HIM. Don't bring that raciost bullshit into this...
Anyway, the point is. The technique is not full proof, argue all you want. It IS more devestating when a full grown man does it than a 17 year old girl. And self defense techniques that follow a specific order of moves are harder to pull off than knowing how to fight like MuayThai or something.
@GuamKomudo Why mention his color at all? Why not address him as his name that's posted. Not to mention both of them are black. 2ndly where did you get black he is better? Say what you want and other will agree. This tech will work. Sure there are many others that will work but this one will too. So what's your point ? I have seen tons of garbage on you tube posted as self defense. This guy puts up some quality and you say it doesn't work. Show us something that will.
Oh my gosh shut up. I didn't say it won't work. I said it will not ALWAYS work, and he is acting like it will EVERY single time no matter what. I have been kneed in the face before in a "Thai clinch" in my MMA class. It's not always a automatic win, you can miss, they can move their head, they can grab your leg and take you down ect You might not even get to the knee part. What if you don't even get the first hit? Now you're face to face with someone who is not bent over, now you gotta fight.
@GuamKomudo -the key points that you missed is that Professor James said the following throughout the 4 minute video, "if my knee is effective...." , after kneeing in the face "the fight is pretty much over" He did not say that the technique will work against anyone and anytime. You stated that you have been kneed in the face before a "thai clinch" and your point to say that was exactly"? Your experience was not the technique being shown. There are always variables thus why we train.
@GuamKomudo Did you get eye-poked, kicked in unprotected groin and then kneed in the face in your mma class? If not your thai clench comment is not relevant to the technique shown in terms of combat or street effectiveness. The Vee techniques are snapshots of a particular situation, there are always variables. That is true of any system even MMA, if you want to learn the variable then you join a school and learn the system . You cant get that from a youtube clip or 30 minute dvd. True?
Straightforward and effective but stomping a guy after he's down or responding with eye gouging after he just grabbed you will get you into trouble in most countries in the world and will probably land you in jail.
If you fear for your LIFE - by all means do it but reality isn't always black or white.
That's why you have to follow through these thugs carry guns and you need to dismantle them effectively the first time. If you don't you need to re-evaluate your program. Exact words from a US Navy Seal Operator
Vee Arnis and Sanuces is nothing to play with. People call us crazy but we're not the crazy ones murdering and hurting innocent people. There is nothing wrong with defense. Professor is doing an outstanding job.
viewed this vid so many times each time learn more but this time just want to make note my respect also for the professor james' assistant he takes his knocks but im sure - sure - he is quite capable of inflicting generous punishment to any one foolish enough to violate his peace very fortunate he to learn first hand w/ the instructor peace
haha yea I don't doubt that at all and thats one of the reasons why I respect him so. I am just saying, sometimes it seems pretty over the top, but its all good.
i have watched this 'tube many times it gets better w/ each view well not 'better' but more impressive we are for peace but there are bad guys out here unfortunately and if and or when they come to do us or our loved ones harm we have the right and the responsibility to react in the extreme to end their violence w/ our own t/y so much for this 'tube only wish in was in nyc to ask this teacher's guidance peace
agree, you put a guy in an arm bar and break his arm while his buddies are coming in from behind to stomp on you, or the guy you put in an arm bar is strong lifts you up and slams you on the concert.
Whats he think of Dan Inosanto, Inosanto is into FMA filipino martial arts like Panantukan, arnis/escrima/kali, silat etc etc. And of course he's the inheritor of JKD from Burce Lee
true martial arts/kung fu. simplicity, effectiveness, and beautiful. great stuff. his "uki" must be one tuff sob after all that, and probably gets it all the time, lol.
The idea is self defense with practical and logical movements that are fast, powerfull, and effective,in order to escape. But true self defense is not just that, but also like the master James demostrates here,is to take the oportunity to make the agresor respect you and fear you,by inflicting pain and hurt,if you have the chance. Then again the situation will determine that.Either way,you still should scape to ensure your safety.
089hlj.... after the kick to the groin the knee might not be necessary and in a self-defense situation even if the knee doesn't finish him off, if can put him down long enough for you to get to safety
His responses are re-hearsed. Not to mention that the odds of taking someone down with a single knee to the face, even a full on power shot are indeed quite slim. The guy is not just going to stand there and let you do that period. Uh...Hello! If I'm going to knee someone in the face I want to put them in a position where they are completely immobilized first so that I can get off repetitive undefended shots!
they're not rehearsed ...the entire system is based on ideas and concepts not techniques. also when someone grabs you like that (or tries to) they're likely threatening you and your response is immediate and a surprise. and IMO the eye jab/palm strike/punches to the face and groin kick will pretty well immobilize him long enough to knee him in the face. you don't have to vanquish him anyway, just survive and escape
well I've downed someone with a knee before .... though I conceed it was to the midsection not the face, remember most of the time the guys who attack you on the street do not expect a fight.
Prof. I don't want to be your Ouki! Excellant demo and explainations on all your video's. This should be taught in school more kids would have respect for eachother. Pugay
The Professor is indeed a great man. When I first walked in there, he is introduce himself simply as David James. No fancy title, nothing. Then I realized that he was the Grand Master. I was very impress with his modesty indeed. As a teacher, he is caring and wants all his students to succeed. In my short time so far in the class, I have learned more than most people learn in martial art.
He is the finest instructor around. He can break the information down to anyone. I still remember the first time I trained in one of his classes almost 7 years ago. This man has a presence, you can't go on the mat with him and not loearn something.
Oh I know that. That is what I was saying. He is a very humble man but the second he is on the mat...wow. He knows his stuff. I am with him so far 4 months and I am loving every minute of it. He breaks it down for everyone to understand and to suit each individual as well. I plan on saying.
BTW, whoever for some odd reason...gave me a minus 1, please do explain why. I do not see anything negative that was said in my above post.
professor james has taken veejitsu to a whole new level with what he is doin right now. he is an inovator in the world of jujitsu! i had the opportunity to train with him and he is great! if you had time to a learn a system that would be good for self defense there are others out there. but if you needed something today then this would be it!
A grown man needs needs self defense to protect himself against attackers in certain situations. Police, military, business owners, correction officers and single women are all prwon to being the subject of violence and can use martial arts to defend themselves. You can't always count on a weapon to defend youself because it can jam and you may not have time to get to it. I hope that answered the question of why adults need self defense.
There's a reason why he was rated as one of the toughest street fighter's on earth by Blackbelt magazine. His DVD's are also top rated on Martial arts video review.
Respect the pain fool! Love this guy. Hes a warrior and damn good instructor!

Professor is doing an outstanding job.

hahahaha, that silly shit don't work! I'll take that dude down and break his arm bjj style!
silveragent007 2 years ago
BJJ doesnt work in the street vs more then one person unless maybe you know the combat version like from the Valente's or Carlson Gracie
Mider999 2 years ago
agree, you put a guy in an arm bar and break his arm while his buddies are coming in from behind to stomp on you, or the guy you put in an arm bar is strong lifts you up and slams you on the concert.
SLITTHROAT13 2 years ago
Um i dont think that would happen the lifting off you up stuff the guys arm would be snaped.
Mider999 2 years ago
what if the guy is bigger and stronger and lifts weights?
SLITTHROAT13 2 years ago
doesnt always matter if he's stronger..........thats how BJJ works, and boxing

Whats he think of Dan Inosanto, Inosanto is into FMA filipino martial arts like Panantukan, arnis/escrima/kali, silat etc etc. And of course he's the inheritor of JKD from Burce Lee
Mider999 2 years ago
true martial arts/kung fu. simplicity, effectiveness, and beautiful. great stuff. his "uki" must be one tuff sob after all that, and probably gets it all the time, lol.

Very nice! Looks very practical
MOVIERAVER 2 years ago

089hlj 2 years ago
He did give the address , Go there and tell him that
Kevlov72 2 years ago
they're not rehearsed ...the entire system is based on ideas and concepts not techniques. also when someone grabs you like that (or tries to) they're likely threatening you and your response is immediate and a surprise. and IMO the eye jab/palm strike/punches to the face and groin kick will pretty well immobilize him long enough to knee him in the face. you don't have to vanquish him anyway, just survive and escape
kempobrad 2 years ago
oh really?
well I've downed someone with a knee before .... though I conceed it was to the midsection not the face, remember most of the time the guys who attack you on the street do not expect a fight.
oroge 2 years ago

"what if after I knee him, he still fights?"
After taking a knee in the face during sparring (due to a really bad shoot) its safe to say that not too many people can easily recover.

The Professor is indeed a great man. When I first walked in there, he is introduce himself simply as David James. No fancy title, nothing. Then I realized that he was the Grand Master. I was very impress with his modesty indeed. As a teacher, he is caring and wants all his students to succeed. In my short time so far in the class, I have learned more than most people learn in martial art.
rrnaim 2 years ago
He is the finest instructor around. He can break the information down to anyone. I still remember the first time I trained in one of his classes almost 7 years ago. This man has a presence, you can't go on the mat with him and not loearn something.
chertzle 2 years ago
