  • Definition: Warner Chilcott, a debase human being who's only goal in life is to make more money than anyone else even if that means lying, cheating.

These humans are utterly greedy and should be avoided if possible.

  • For medical care the free market doesn't always work.I (as an english man) can not imagine living in a country where I can't call for an ambulance and be treat without being asked for money at time of treatment.

Or a world where FireFighters ask for money before fighting the fire.

Or police who refuse to help because I'm not insured with their company.

  • 1:38 I am playing Call of Duty while watching this video.

  • Wait...did he spend $2,399 on shares?

  • The lesson that we can learn from all this: move to Canada!

  • LOL, the stock price went down to 16.42 (from 23.99)... I hope you sold your stock before it went down!

  • due to being british and badass and have to take asacol mine cost 7:40 a month in a year thats 88.80 thats about 140 us dollors. 670 us dollors in the us is around 5 years worth of pills here in the uk. there some math to prove that the nhs is needed

  • NHS!!!

  • Actually this medications costs the same amount in Canada, and did even then. I know this because my father also suffers from Colitis, and has been taking this medication for almost 7 years.

  • I've noticed a trend that any sector Nerdfighteria expands into thusly becomes more awesome. So....nerdfighter pharmacists/whatever-people-who-makes-drugs-are-called, get to it.

    That is all.

  • The price of WC stock now is $16.70. John has lost $729.

  • @G3Du I think he got out of that stock already.

  • Also, I'm totally using the phrase "Well, you can go WARNER CHILCOTT yourself" from now on.

  • The moral of this video? VLOGBROTHERS SHOULD MOVE TO CANADA.

  • Whats funny is that Warner Chilcot has lost about 30% of its stock value since John bought into it :P

  • Warner Chilcott's stock prices are surprisingly low.

  • That is why we in the UK have the NHS

Also, "I do not believe Walmart should be allowed to sell highly enriched uranium" made me giggle

  • Whoooooa. Just realized something. next to Astercol HD there is a medication called Loestrin.. I used to take this drug, and then had to stop taking it because it went from $30 a month to over $100 a month, and as a teenager, I can NOT afford that.. I have said before that I was "Warner Chilcotted" in an effort to make the word a curse word, but NEVER did I realize that I too was LEGITAMATELY WARNER CHILCOTTED.. *mindblown*

  • @thatnerdgirl2012 I used to take that same thing! My copay was through the roof before it went generic. Hmm, I never knew it was Warner Chilcott stuff.

  • three letters NHS

  • Wait, that laptop looks to be plugged in, but the plugs shadow is not. Whats going on?!?!?!?

  • I always feel 1200% smarter when I finish listening to John or Hank talk.

  • Just want to point out, since the making of this video Warner Chilcotts stock price has gone down $6.55.

  • At first I kinda thought that you bought Warner Chilcott stock just to rub Hank's face in it.

Like "Haw haw! I'm supporting the people that are making your life suuuuuck!"

  • @Melchary that is exactly what he did.

  • GUYS! We should all buy shares. AND NERDFIGHTERS WOULD OWN SOMETHING THAT KEEPS PEOPLE ALIVE! Not that we don't already but hey.

  • more Generic drugs!

  • Hold on John spent $2399 to make a point? Commitment.

  • @phoenixfeathered No, it was $23.99. Not $2399

  • @Dininann Ah, but he bought one hundred shares :)

  • @phoenixfeathered Ahhh, touché my friend.

  • I get my drugs for free! Yay for socialized medicine!

  • The stock price has gone down significantly. On there, it was $23.99. I just checked, and it is now $16.27. Interesting.

  • he works for me

  • You can get your colon removed... like i did. fuck ulcerative colitis

  • @deathblade111 but I like pooping out of my but... not my side into little bags

  • I love how I looked at the title and thought he meant "own" like "pwn" and then it was like, "Oh. . .he actually OWNS it." and I love nerdfighters so much.

  • 1:10 kind of made my day.

  • Wow.

You are the only one who could articulate the importance and economic efficiency of universal healthcare so well.

If people didn't have to spend their money on healthcare, everyone would make more,

and while taxes would be higher, they wouldn't be outrageously higher.

And as you mentioned, that extra money would be pumped into the economy as consumer confidence increases.

  • @ChelsieOliviaa Aw yeah, switch over to Canada's system America! Great healthcare here :D I have plenty of medications and they cost me little to diddly-squat. I cannot fathom how someone could pay $650 a month just for medication...wow

  • Warner Chilcott's stock has gone down from around $23 in this video to around $15 today :D

  • Comment removed

  • (part 1) How about bringing evolution into the free market mix? By not regulating the pharmaceutical industry, we would get really kick ass anti-bald cream but shitty and expensive health-related medicine. But over time, the unhealthy society(although with beautiful hair) would most likely go extinct.

  • 135 people,are stocks holders

  • Well said, John. Well said.

  • John was simply proving a point man, go nerdfighters!

  • @zekeoman What the hell, dude?

  • john and hank should run the entire earth. hank gets the western hemisphere and john gets the eastern

  • @zekeoman1 I think you may have missed the point

  • Sick of tonsillitis now. Bought meds by Abbott. Apparently, they Warner Chilcott too. Each tablet is a hundred Pesos.

  • I'm going to start telling people to "go Warner Chilcott" themselves, now. :D

  • Okay, I'm sold on Universal healthcare

  • What if a bunch of Nerdfighters...

    I dunno...

ALSO bought stock in Warner Chilcott...

and then Nerdfighteria would OWN it...

    Literally.

  • I think I should move to Canada now.

  • Logic. Hurts my head.

  • Nice Woody Guthrie poster :P

  • I'm gonna be on Loestrin24Fe... and when I saw the Warner Chilcott label on it, I was like, "Holy shit. WARNER CHILCOTT."

The reviews of this pill are awful, btw. I'm scared. :(

  • if you taught my class, i would actually learn something.

  • @MAYBEDEADCATherine And so CrashCourse was born.

  • @MAYBEDEADCATherine Hey person from the past, person from the future: Check out Crash Course. It's fantastic.

  • @g2theIrishPianist I've been following it since it started!

  • Warner Chilcott also makes the pills I take.

You don't even know how nerdraged I was when I realized that.

    >:/

  • uuuh ooooh uuh ooh you you you- have...a woody guthrie picture framed hanging on your wall. - i admit this is the first video i watch of the vlogbrothers and a woody gurthrie picture automatically makes you aaaaaweeessssooommmee.

  • @schokaholik Hank's Guitar is a parody of this seen in his background quite often. Welcome to Nerfighteria!

  • @ADDawning is their a video where John explains the woody guthrie picture or why Hank's guitar is a parody of this? thank you.

  • @schokaholik there is but i don't know where it is, I've looked for a while now, but I can't find it.

  • 131 people should go Warner Chilcot themselves.

  • ✓ Move to England

    ✓ Get free healthcare

    ✓ ???

    ✓ PROFIT

  • @MasterPebsie But think about the lack of fluoride! I love my teeeeths

  • NHS ftw :P

  • To be fair, drug prescriptions aren't really a free market. Drug companies obtain monopolies through patents. Therefore, companies can sell products at very high prices.

  • Dear John, Thank you for helping me with my economics paper. :)

  • Argh John don't call yourself a capatalist

  • Wow... the idea of paying $500 a month for a drug you need to *survive* is just so strange...

  • Awwwww I wish my big sis would buy 100 stocks of the company that's making a product that keeps me alive but pulled this Warner Chilcott and pissed me off for meeeeeeeee XDDDDDDD

  • Hahah other then COD

  • I actually looked up the stock prices of warner chilcott (which he said he bought a 100 of) and on the 26th (they day he bought it) it was $25 ea and on the 27th (the day after) it was $26 meaning it had dropped $1 lol... = $100 lost..

  • My thing I like to point out is both videos misrepresent the Canadian health care, but in particular John misrepresents how the Canadian health care system works. It is forgivable because most Canadians do not understand how the health care system works.

Myth 1: There is no national health care in Canada. Section 92 of the British North American act of 1867 clearly makes health care a Provincial responsibility. The Federal government chips in about 30% of the cost with certain conditions.

  • Myth 2: It is not that the Governments negotiates with drug companies, it is essential they threaten to steal the patent and allow generic producers to make the exact same drug.

Myth 3: Rationing, even if a drug exist that could cure or treat a disease this does not ensure the patient will get it. The administrators may determine that the cost versus benefit factors is too low and thus not worth attempt.

  • WTWC.

    (What The Warner Chilcott)

  • Warner Chilcott can go Warner Chilcott itself

  • i like your videos

  • a perfect argument against privatization of medical care. you are awesome for this.

  • WOOT fo Canada!

  • And Warner Chilcott is just like every other big business owner: they only care about profits, not people. They should be killed for the betterment of humanity.

  • Considering we cant often feed the people who DO exist, how can we afford to feed/house those who all live?

    Not being negative, just honest.

  • This gives me an idea...

It's rather ingenious (if I do say so myself, and I do), but I want to make sure I get this right. So think I'm going to fully form this thought and make a video response.

  • "Except, perhaps, Call of Duty" xD xD xD

  • I checked, Warner Chilcott is now officially on Urban Dictionary.

  • OMG... You have a huge forehead.

  • I how many shares nerdfighteria could get, wouldnt that be sweet, a majority on warner chilcott of nerdfighteria! first company owned by the nerdfighteria empire!

  • He. Is. So. Eloquent. O.O

  • I watched this whole thing... But half way through I can't even remember what he said in the first 25 seconds.

  • Drug companies are worse than drug dealers, they could make drugs to cure cancer and such but like John said it does not make them as much profit. They sound like a sinister pig to me.

  • I don't get it. Is Hank's medicine less or what? Will(Has) he get(gotten) a new medicine?

  • @savvyjo97 He can afford it, even if it is ungodly expensive, and since we haven't had any news of his untimely death, I'd say that he does have the meds. Even if Warner Chilcott is Warner Chilcott-ing him on the price.

  • @LaLuBeauty I would love to have a great answer to that, but i honestly don't know. I know we have a lot of clinics that is actually free, and that you can get support from the government if you've lost your job, are sick or any other reason that you can't work.

  • Look up Warner Chilcot on Urban Dictionary ;)

    i love nerdfighters :D

  • Lol...do you ever blink? Ever?!

Maybe this non-blinking skill is something only authors aquire from the many hours of staring into their computer screen.

  • @AbstractGrace my sister almost never blinks and she is always on the computer

  • Okay Nerdfighters! Here's a question, if Canada and the United States (lets just say those two for simplicities sake) administer cures to all countries with a malaria epidemic for all the people who have malaria, as well as the means to keep them malaria free (not sure if this would come with surplus medicine or education), would the cost of this be more than the economic boom that all these newly healthy people who could work create?

A friend and I are arguing this and I was wondering if the

  • I'm confused

  • ahhh the joys of socialised medicine we get our drugs for free :)

  • Make your own political party and call it the Decreasing Worldsuckians, then run for president

  • John ( insert sarcastic tone) but that's socialism.

  • I've got to admit it took me a couple watches to fully grasp what John is saying, but now that I get it, it's like "I'm glad I live in Canada, cause it kinda sucks down in the US."

  • @TheEllipsis731 i stand by my previous statement. more money goes to baldness than malaria because more bald people have a voice to demand it and money ready to buy the cure. malaria, usually associated w/ poverty and sub-saharan africa, does not get this same voice because they do not have the money ready to buy the cure- also, they might die before they get the word out to our big pharms that they need a cure. big pharm is 'more interested' in baldness because there is readily money to be made

  • I really like how you mentioned Canada.Thanks :)

  • so wait he is saying that hank is screwed???? please someone explains

  • so wait he is saying that hank is screwed????

  • wait, is 100 stock = 1/2,000,000 the total or 1/2,000,000,000 the total?

  • aside from Call of Duty hahahaha

  • I think it's important to realize, too, that these companies spend billions of dollars on research and development costs. Medical research is expensive. The only way to recuperate these costs is by putting a patent on the medicine they create and selling at the appropriate price according to the demand from consumers. Should they realize any profits in the end, they would spend it on further R&D for other medicines. They're a business, who makes money, but that's not really their goal.

  • Why aren't you my teacher? WHY??? FOR GOD'S SAKE WHY? You could teach ANYTHING.

  • Quick, everybody google bomb 'Warner Chilcott Sucks.'

  • i was in Costco today and i thought about buying a book. Now, as a personal choice(and because you made me realize its bad) i do not buy books at walmart. SO is buying a book at costco bad too? or just wal-mart?

  • @fluffofnine try to buy one at a non-national conpany like an independent bookstore

  • ...ouch.

  • I love that fact that I am 26 and Iv'e had type1 diabeties for 22 years. I spend about 500 a month on insulin and other supplies to stay alive. Its sucks I can't get medicaid or government assistance because I didn't get knocked up at an earl age and I choose working and going to school to better my life. But until I get a degree and a job with health insurance I just have to hope I can afford it and not die.

  • Run. For. President.

  • @TheCrawfcon He would have most of YouTube/a lot of the internet/most nerds on his side. That is a lot..... I would vote for him! :D

  • @TheCrawfcon Never mind president, these two guys should run for joint world leadership!

  • @TheCrawfcon Yeah and then Dan Brown could be vice!

  • He makes sense. He would not win. @TheCrawfcon

  • John, it's awesome how you're able to bring a big issue into your video without turning it into a political bashing of the other side. The fact that you can do this is truly admirable.

  • hi john, i would very much appreciate it if you could respond to my video response. i would love to hear your thoughts!

  • wow. That was brilliantly put. It's all about money. It always is :/

  • Hank should move to the UK where if you need meds to stay alive, they give it to you for free, I'm sure that we more than likely paying through the nose for something else in some other way but, you know, it's just an interim solution lol

  • Here's my Warner Chillcot Fail Story: So there was this girl that I liked and I was thinking about asking her out, and then it was like, "No maybe she's not gay". Because I'm a girl, and stuff....then at the night class we go to a girl was talking about her boyfriend and this girl I liked said, "Oh yeah my girlfriend (blah blah blah) Oh yeah I forgot to tell you guys, I'm bi." and my first hought was "Oh, isnt that special?" and my second thought was, "Warner Chilcott. F***."

  • yeah.. we see how well universal healthcare works in canada and england...where people DIE waiting for a life saving treatment...

  • @goodi2shooz hey hey easy now. In my opinion (as a Canadian), yes, people die and in the end, universal health care can't stop that but at lest having a chance is nice. There's no such thing as a perfect system but at least there's one where more people have an equal chance. People also survive after waiting for a lifesaving treatment but there is definately ALWAYS room for improvement

  • @goodi2shooz Nah not really. My sister is extremely ill and has almost died multiple times from abscesses and has received treatment for each one. Without universal health-care she would most likely either be dead or our family would be in massive debt.

  • Brilliantly illustrated, as always.

  • i can see a large increase in the sale of warner chilcott stocks as a result of this video...

  • edit: 69 Galleon, 8 Sickles, 21 Knuts.

  • I OWN WARNER CHILCOTT!

  • i love ur picture of woody guthrie in the background!

  • This whole Chilcott thing is like Snape stopped making Remus' potion just for giggles.

  • @SteveVader101 or suddenly decided to charge Remus 69 Galleons per cup. (That's $700 US Dollars according to the HP Lexicon USD to Galleons converter)

  • Comment removed

  • if you think about it John and Hank Green have a lot in common with Thomas and Henrich Mann..... Think about it!

  • i vote we each go purchase one of warner chilcott stock so that, as a whole, we can decide what fair and negotiable price to assign to hank's (and others) meds

  • Nice Speach but wrong.

In a free market we would get medecine for lower prices. But we are not free.

Why can the charge so much? Cause they have a patent.

    Who enforces it? The State.

The same entity that should help you.

No State No Patent No high Prices Free Market.

And please dont insult my invisble hand! You see 3. world tried to get it for low, but your goverment, in the name of free market forbid it.

So yeah good luck not to die of a splinter!

  • Going by the pitch of his voice, I think John was very excited throughout this video.

  • Super informative and thought-provoking!

  • I'm afraid the young man at How The World Works bested you in this debate. In a perfect world I would side with you, but we don't live in a perfect world...that's why you lose.

  • Call of Duty!

  • U.S drug companies are some of the most profitable companies in the world. We are at their mercy and at the mercy of Wall St.

Drug companies spend only a small percentage of their earnings on research, they spend a lot more on advertising.

  • there is a cure for malaria the people die from it just cant afford the $8 it takes to buy it

  • I'm still not convinced they "raised" the price overnight.

It sounds like he simply lost his discount rate and had to pay the cash price overnight.

  • @hoppinglark that makes sense- but then why did the price jump to $600 if it had been $300 before? that's still double the price!

  • Comment removed

  • @cherrygirl016

yeah I'd like the details too.

  • He bought 100 shares, not 100% of the shares... lol.

And by doing so, he forces his opinion on said company, because he owns part of said company.

    You go, John. You go.

Also, finished Will Grayson, Will Grayson this morning. Let's ignore the fact that it took me this long and enjoy the point I'm trying to make, which is, it's right next to Looking For Alaska in my list of favorite books ever.

    Let me say that again...

    Ever.

  • I love it how you buy a company to prove a point!

  • I love the Yoshitomo Nara pictures you have on your wall. :)

  • YOU SIR, HAVE SUCCESSFULLY TROLLED YOUR BROTHER.

  • Woa John you are awesome! I hope you become more then 1/12millionth (or whatever) owner of that company so you can do something equally awesome with it. You're so right about them wanting money not curing their customers

  • I had a dream about John and Hank two nights ago and I was married to Hank and John came to visit us but they weren't related. The funniest part of my dream was the fact that I wanted John to sign some of his books that I had and upon coming to mine and Hank's home, John promptly signed my books, insulted my husband, flipped us off and left.

    ...

I know, I know. My dreams are strange.

  • Wait, did john just spend 2.5 thousand dollars on stock for a company thats ruining his brothers life?

  • Why is the drug so much cheaper in Canada? What is different about Canada's market? Please explain this in more detail!

  • @saikogrrl canada has free health care. people pay higher taxes there so that they can get their drugs and other health stuff at a much lower price. that's what Obama-care was trying to do, but it didn't go over so well, which is why Hank has to pay $600 for a tiny bottle of pills.

  • @chestercherry So, you're saying that Obama's health care law directly caused the price of Hank's medicine to go up by 1200% over night?! I hope I'm not being too nosy when I ask, 'What planet are you from?'

  • @corr14 I think what chester was saying was that Obama's health care scheme might have made things more affordable or easier, but it didn't get fully approved, so meds are still expensive?

  • @corr14 nonono. sorry, that's not what i'm saying AT ALL. I was trying to say was that Canadians pay a lot more on their taxes so that the government can help pay for their meds, and that's kind of what Obama's health care reform was trying to do. Hank's meds went up so high cuz he buys them from an organization whose goal is to make profits, and they do that by finding the cheapest way to make their product and then sell it for stupidly high prices. Sorry, i didn't articulate myself very well.

  • @chestercherry My fault. I reread your post and I understand what you were saying now. sorry! XD

  • @chestercherry that sounds awesome. We have something similar in Australia called medicare, which helps offset costs for people who can't afford private health insurance, with things like a low income card which sometimes means meds for like $9 which is fantastic.

What I wonder is, why can't all countries be like Canada? I wonder what it is about that country that allowed them to implement this scheme when it isn't working in America. something to do with an unregulated market like John said?
