Shayne doesn't speak Korean either, but his pronunciations are decent. If you want to be a singer in Korea, at least you need to be able to have the audience understand the lyrics. Even Mariah Carey can't make it in Korea, if no one understands what she's singing about.

Think in an entertainment company's POV. If YOU were the one responsible for raising stars would you want someone who can sing PLUS speak a little Korean? One it saves money, two Korean people can be a bit racist (not all some.)

WOW I admire anybody who even tries out at auditions, but to do it in a foreign country and SPEAK another language - they are awsome to me for their perseverance. Korea is SO hard on auditions. I thought Simon Cowell was a hardass and often WRONG. Let's see some new styled talent from Korea. I will always love K-pop and SSH is my hero but don't bring these poor foreign hopefuls all the way to Korea to tell them they ar not good enough - that's cruel.
@passionsung Korean Officials are familiar with other country's music. especially the US and europe. unfortunately, since Korean is their native language, they cannot help but understand and evaluate korean songs better. thats why the advantage is not on the foreigners side. on the bright side, hopefuls like Shayne do manage to advance by sheer talent.

No its not about your nationality. If you wanna become a singer in Korea obviously you have to pronunciate the Korean words correctly. It would be like that in any country.
@orignamura i was one of the contestants in it and i think the reason you'll see all the foreigners here is because they were making a point of including foreigners in the competition maybe to show how widespread the popularity kpop has is? However, practically no foreigners went through to the final so while it was an amazing opportunity that im incredibly grateful for - the foreigners were for show... so you'll be seeing all the asians in the later rounds i guess?

It seriously broke my heart a little when the dance guy didn't get in! I mean seriously! He could be a dancer or an mc or a comedian... Hopefully we'll see him again soon! He has such talent and energy and charisma! :)
thirdly, in my view, carla (belen) and baru have potential. but they might have stage fright and could not show their real talent. considering that, they needed more prepapation in cooperation with MBC staffs.
fourthly, cho pd is too stiff. i do not think he can give good impression on viewers.

the judges are stupid, in my view... first, if the applicants were not really great, they should not be invited to korea. what a waste of time for them!!!! they are victim of this stupid selection. secondly, the judges did not give a chance for the taiwanese participant to sing. then, how can they judge his real singing power?

As a matter of fact they occasionally asked people to sing again in a different posture; if they didn't like the way one sang with a guitar, they asked him or her to remove it and try singing again. It's just that MBC couldn't fit every performance int he time frame they had hence you only get the highlights of it. I've passed this round and you can't even find my performance at all. 그리고 일부러 영어로 답변드려요;;
@KYUNGILNAM People sound different on youtube and live on stage. Partly it's recording and partly it's the level of comfort of the singer in front of live audience and judges. You can't tell how a person will perform live. So they've given people benefit of doubt. Whether they can hold their nerve and give their best performance is entirely up to them.
@KYUNGILNAM who cares? the participants get their flight paid for them to come so basically their coming for free to korea think of it as a touring of the country even if u lose

the judges are stupid, in my view... first, if the applicants were not really great, they should not be invited to korea. what a waste of time for them!!!! they are victim of this stupid selection. secondly, the judges did not give a chance for the taiwanese participant to sing. then, how can they judge his real singing power?

@KYUNGILNAM I'm not trying to speak against you, but they did give everyone a chance to sing. As a matter of fact they occasionally asked people to sing again in a different posture; if they didn't like the way one sang with a guitar, they asked him or her to remove it and try singing again. It's just that MBC couldn't fit every performance int he time frame they had hence you only get the highlights of it. I've passed this round and you can't even find my performance at all. 그리고 일부러 영어로 답변드려요;;

@KYUNGILNAM People sound different on youtube and live on stage. Partly it's recording and partly it's the level of comfort of the singer in front of live audience and judges. You can't tell how a person will perform live. So they've given people benefit of doubt. Whether they can hold their nerve and give their best performance is entirely up to them.

@KYUNGILNAM who cares? the participants get their flight paid for them to come so basically their coming for free to korea think of it as a touring of the country even if u lose

@KYUNGILNAM agreeing with izAkly. they cut and edit parts out cuz of time issues. but they give everyone a fair chance. they just dont show it.

@KYUNGILNAM You're comment seems to be a little stupid, in my view. If you haven't realized, American Idol is the same way. Why send them off to Hollywood only to reject them? What a waste of time for those that live on the other side of the country, right? These applicants know that in order to participate they have to travel to Korea and there is that chance they might not make it. There is only one winner, so the rest of the applicants have to go home eventually! I love MBC Star Audition! :D
