I remember living for a year in Merseyside in the eighties. Coming from France it was such a shock. Life was'nt easy back at that time there but it was heaven compared to England! Factory closures, unemployment at its higest rate, 25% in the area where I was, miner strike, people desperate with no hope in future... I am really wondering what this woman brought to her country...Blair did so much better.

I see your point - but I still say it isn't relevant. To me, the "it's so easy to laugh.." bit is part of the "if you're so funny.." passage from the uninterested recipient of his affections.
