under clinton unemployment was at a historical low, the country had a record budget surplus, welfare and food stamp cases were at an all-time low, there were no wars dragging on the economy, i can keep going. on the other hand, now imagine everything about clinton and take the exact opposite and you get bush 2.

Does that sound like a "stable economy" to you? if it does, you need help. it wouldn't kill you to look up facts next time you make a claim.

Actually, it was not Clinton. The reason why interest rates were so low was because of Alan Greenspan, Fed Chairman appointed by Reagan. It became worse after Sept 11 when interest rates (specifically the Fed Funds rate) was lowered and Bush, through the Federal Housing Admin, urged banks to lend to give all Americans a chance to own a home... and look what we have now. A mess that is so dirty that Americans are more willing to trust a nobody from the outside, than a someone on the inside.

The vast majority of the housing crisis was created during the Bush years. The bubble grew huge in 2004 and began to break in 2006. The problem was a tiny kernel in the Clinton years, not something that would have caused alarm. It was the Bush administration that should have realized what was going on... only they didn't care.

I am not certain that Barack Obama will fulfill all the demands of American politics, and in my opinion, it may not be that important. On the other hand, the fact of having elected a black president of the United States serves to demonstrate that an American citizen can start from the smallest to become the greatest within a few years.
