  • It's not just a mod for Nexus and Homeworld 2. There's also a mod for Unreal Tournament 3, as well as a standalone game (an MMORTS), which fucking OWNS even though it's currently in closed beta.

  • rediculous? Thats how an explosion looks in a non oxygen enviroment.

  • In space u wouldnt get any sound (i know i talkin really smart) but nothing would happen because there is no air for the sound to travel through

  • @sodiumhyro - you would hear sound as the cuncusion effect of explosions hits your ship (an explosion is the expansion of gas). It would be a dull thud noise as apposed to a sharp cracking noise.

  • @sodiumhyro this is true, and while i love what firefly did with that, i still think sound in space has its cinematic purpose, even if it's not realistic. just imagine what star wars would have been like without sounds? tie fighter engines and their laser cannons are some of the most memorable sound effects in history!

  • @sodiumhyro actually you would get sound from explosions, the expanding gasses from a point of impact/ explosion would travel hitting your ship transferring the sound. it would sound different and given relative densities, a lot quieter, but you would have sound

    No the fire would be going towards the oxygen as oxygen is one of the things fire needs so it would be pulled inwards

  • I agree. I especially enjoyed the sound effects. But I didn't like the explosions/smoke too much.

  • an explosion in space would look like that; the oxygen that escapes would catch fire and the flames would feed back into the source

    In this video I especially enjoy the music after it shows the "Angels Fall First name".

    to the end, if its a mod in a BIG file put "mod"insertmodnamehere.big"

  • jesus people, has anyone acctually SEEN an explosion in space, debris flies out as normal but as its in a vacuum, all the fire smoke debris etc is sucked back to the point of origin so it acctually would look like that, if anyone wants to go throwing grenades around in space to see what happens feel free to prove me wrong!

  • Nope, although the vacuum of space would effect a explosion, it would be because the ship's hull was just breached and the air is rushing out, but that would suck the explosion out into space, not back to it's point of origin. And not all explosions breach the hull. Nice video, though, except for the explosions.

  • This kind of explosion implosion only happens underwater. Explosion in space should be smokeless and damaged ships would not be on fire

  • Explosion-implosion truly only happens underwater, and explosions in space are smokeless indeed; but those ships could contain flamable gases (like oxygen), and due to the fact that space has no atmospheric pressure, flames generated in a ship could well find their way outside.

  • I remember something on ahistory channel special on Star Wars and, you cna have smoke out in space. All you need is oxygen from the ship, an ignition source and fuel for the fire to burn. Venting oxygen could fuel a fire and the smoke could leak into space.

  • Actually the ships can be on fire in space, because hull breaches would vent atmosphere into space, providing oxygen to burn, which also accounts for the smoke. The imploding explosions not so much, any explosion would probably just continue outwards until it dispersed...

  • Take that up with Relic..they designed the engine. It's kinda hard to do a "realistic" explosion (or game) set in a made up universe in space, when the ships and technology don't exist.

    How do you know explosions wouldn't look like that? They're not carrying jet fuel you know and there isn't any oxygen.

    thats not relic's engine. Its a rendered movie

  • With no oxygen in space, there is nothing to sustain the flame of the explosion so as a result the fire dies out, creating the smoke you see in the mod, which than gets sucked back into its point of origin. With lack of any kind of medium in space the explosions are very quite and small.

    But I guess you did not know that because your entire knowledge on this matter is based on grade 2 education and watching starwars.

  • Any weapons intended to explode chemically would carry their own oxidiser, which would be consumed in the explosion. The result would be a flash, not a fireball. the debris and smoke would fly outward from the force of the blast, not be sucked back to the point of origin. For everything to do as you decribed, there would have to be a quantity of oxygen in the surrounding area sufficiently dense to sustain a flame and there...

  • ...would have to be a sudden, continuous vacuum at the detonation point after the flame dies out.

    You shourld really worry about your own education before insulting that of others, "Dokart".

  • When Ships get hit i hope your realize they start venting atmosphere. That would provide a sizable amount of oxygen, enough for a split second flame.
