Took this album and Frankie's "Liverpool to Sri Lanka. Memories of sunset on the sea-wall on the south-coast -sipping a beer and hearing the surf mixed with this track. Awesome. Things are where they can't be.
It's a good song with a good title as well. I love the smell of camphor. Camphor has got some special properties. Those pictures suit the music. I like that. Thank-you for sending me this link.
I could'nt believe I bought this CD in a Walgreens for 99 cents. (Phantoms also) This is one of my great winter records, and one of my favorite CDs period. Hate the the silence thing, but I guess that means something.
@Ztinkyy Walkabout was released in 1986. I remember only a couple of songs from the album that made any significant airplay-- "Built for the Future" and "Secret Separation. Though it's my favorite, it apparently did not garner the degree of commercial success of The Fixx's earler albums, and was dropped from MCA's catalog by the mid to late-90's. I was fortunate enough to find a new CD about five years ago through a rare CD seller through Amazon.com. Give it a try.
@Ztinkyy I have all of their albums from up to Elemental. Walkabout is the album this song came from and though it wasn't as commercially successful as the the albums before it, there wasn't one bad song on the entire album and I dare they they were at their creative peak with this one.
Yeeeeee HYaaaa!!!There is no substitute!! True Real Music! Embrace the Power of ,this Vehicle of Release ,conceived and executed, by the Band The Fixx! Often overlooked while I dig through all the albums! I will highlight on the jacket and delve deeper! {:>
un believable- where did this come from? My cassette wore out 20 years ago and I have never been able to find it on CD. I started playing bass 5 years ago and when I heard this my fingers came alive and I played like I remembered the cool bass 23 yrs ago- to all my Marine brothers we used to listen to this at First Marines and the Quantico- Semper Fi
it's just amazing.....how many great songs these guys have.........they are TREMENDOUS musicians...i have to give thanks to my best friend in the world who turned me completly into a fixxture!!...we all knew their hits...but i got expanded music and was in total love with these guys
Glad you enjoyed it. I like all aspects of the song as they come together as a whole, but the fretless bass line is what really grabbed me. Also if you listen carefully you can hear Jamie hitting harmonics and bending them with his vibrato bar in the right channel.
Glad you liked it. and thank you for the feedback! I also had it on cassette back in 1986. Unfortunately it is no longer distributed new. You'll have to find a specialty reseller on amazon or other source online.
Yes, definitely one of the Fixx's more "obscure" songs, but a gem nonetheless. The lyrics are meaningful and the synthesizer work is stellar. I'm going to try to see these guy's when they play at Busch Gardens in August. I'd be blown away if they played this tune.
That's okay. I just want to hear the music. Treasure it, is one of the best songs on walkabout. They don't make music like this anymore. Passionate, heartfelt, diligently and patiently made music.
OMG!...THANK YOU for this song, I missed it ever since my album then CD with this on it was stolen...any future chance of doing one for..."One look up"?...I'd luv ya eternaly :)
Killer song, I've had it stored in my head for decades!! I owned this on cassete and have been searching for this for 20yrs. Where can you find WALKABOUT??? The Fixx!! Forget even the 80's, just an incredible, under freakn' rated band!!
I lucked out and got a new copy for $11.00 a few years ago from a collector's shop via online purchase through Amazon. Try Amazon for a new or used CD. However I will warn you that the current new copies are quite expensive. You might also get the LP and have it copied to CD.
Thank you! I first heard this in 1986 and loved it. There never was a video for it and I imagined something ethereal would go well with it. Lacking cinematographic equipment and budget I made the best of it with various images I found online. My next project is 'Read Between the Lines".. Stay tuned!!
I posted a link to this on Twitter. I will watch for your next video. If you plan to keep going w/Walkabout, got any cool ideas for Treasure It? Will wait & see. Thanx-CP
For some songs I may use my own equipment-- I have a pretty good catalog of slides I took when I was overseas. I'm going to recommend some other stuff-- Do you like "Icehouse"?
Incredible release. The Fixx's best. Probably why it didn't do as well. Genius by a great band.

Let the masses have Clapton and "Cocaine." I'll take the Fixx and "Camphor."

Bought Walkabout on cassette in '86 and never left my walkman for a month. My son just pulled his MP3 earplugs and asked what a walkman was. I'm old.
