I'm a liberal-minded person, and I agree immigration reform is needed in this country, but I do not agree that illegal immigration is the root of the overpopulation problem. Statisticians have been predicting potential problems related to exponential population growth for many decades. This is nothing new. We do need to control the flow of immigrants across our borders, but if we're going to deal with overpopulation on a grand scale, we must first address issues related to energy and water.
The problems related to exponential population growth worldwide have nothing to do with immigration, nor will the U.S. avoid these problems in the future by sealing off her borders. Fact is, immigrants today provide a NEEDED low-wage labor pool and pump billions into our economy. If we want to secure our future as a nation, we must achieve energy independence. Immigrants will help us do that since the average native-born citizen is math illiterate and more interested in video games than science.

Where's the data supporting the amnesty/large scale immigration policy? What do supporters say will happen to US population? What are all the costs and who will pay them? What's the impact on Social Security? Maybe supporters know a public knowledgeable of all the associated costs, would be even more opposed than they are now? Many sites like CIS, NUMBERSUSA, RealClearPolitics, Americans for Legal Immigration among others that demonstrate the consequences of amnesty and open borders.

I'm a liberal Dem but my party is wrong on this issue -- so wrong that I will not be voting for any candidate supporting amnesty. I hate Bush and the Iraq occupation, but they'll end in the relatively short term. Over population will come quickly and last for hundreds of years. Overpopulation is usually associated with large scale poverty. Where it's not, e.g., Japan, overcrowding and a regimented life is the norm. The antithesis of the US and what I want for my descendants.

what is really a criterion for entry to US??This guys speaks of 4 billion people out there. While that is true I sincerely doubt any of those people would get entry. US of A like any other western nation is doing headhunting for highly educated people, i.e. with at least a bachelor degree plus some years of experience. So what this guys is saying is only a very limited part of the story. He is portraying immigration as a charitable deed while in reality nothing could be further from the truth.

FIRST, he's not saying anything like that. That is just your interpretation. He is, without saying so directly, addressing the concerns of the bleeding heart types for it is THEY who believe immigration is a charitable deed (think of all those "poor Mexicans" just coming here for work). He is saying that no matter what you believe, the numbers say that the best way to help those types is in their own countries.
