Kind wind and solar wont work because the power they produce fluctuates. You need backup so when it doesn't generate energy, it will not cause a blackout. So solar and wind just put power plants on standby. When a power plant is on standby, it burns its fuel but doesn't generate power. So you are still going to burn the same amount of coal.
