Did you hear what happened in 2000 too. She finished 4th at her own Jamacian trials. She should have only been able to run the relay in Sydney not the individual race. That was fair since the 3 women who beat her earned their rights to run the individual race. They still very badly wanted her to run the relay. However she gave them the ultimatum that she wouldnt run the relay unless they let her run the 100 metres individual over someone who earned their spot at trials over her.

Also since they had some 200 metre runners available to run the relay too Gaye Dowdie was dropped from the team altogether. So the person who won the trials had to miss the Olympics just so Ottey who finished 4th at the trials could run the individual event she didnt earn to run and the relay. What BS, what a bitch.

From the photo finish, it looks equal (which is why they were awarded the same time). However, I think that since Gail was decelerating faster than Merlene, Merlene's velocity to the tape was greater so it seemed as if she had passed Gail at 100m when she had not. It is one of the closest races I have ever seen, but don't knock Gail for the win. Gail and Merlene both great athletes and champions. The sport will definitely miss them when they're done.

The torso has always decided the winner of a race. Aint shit changed. If it was clear that Ottey won, I wonder how come judges disagreed.. hmmm... There's always some excuse. If someone is accusing the winner of doping, they say the judges are biased. This seems to be a long debated topic. You win some, you lose some. You could argue all day, but I doubt the judges are gonna go back and change their mind 14 years later.
