I understand that you want to drive people to your website, but I believe that the text-only reviews and other non-video stuff should be enough for that. I cannot get the logic for hosting longer videos on your own site and paying for internet traffic instead of using free YouTube service to its fullest. Do you really expect anyone to re-watch the same video on your website just because it is longer?
This is a fine video, by the way. I love wagons, but this one is too expensive for me.
@ConsumerDV I'm not trying to drive traffic there, it's for people who want to consume info in a different way (the written review and still photos). Hits on the site are much higher than here on YouTube. Some people want a shorter look, plus it's a remnant of the podcast I no longer do (it's now Driven). The longer version is on YouTube as well at DrivenCarReviews FWIW. In the end it's all about car info, not money. I would have stopped doing this years ago if I wanted to get rich...
@DriveCarReviews I have a question. Can you make decent money from this to support all your traveling to review cars and other expenses.I wonder this because I dream of becoming a car reviewer.
I don't know why we Americans hate the beloved, practical, station wagons. I realize they are not the sleek shape of the coupe neither is a sedan And for the extra you get for about the same money & usually huge discount and I think in this case Cadillac did an outstanding job with this wagon. And as you start to use it's versatility you realize you made the RIGHT choice. I agree with "minibus1351" Future Classic. I wish we had the 2011 SONATA WAGON here in the States, car is a REAL LOOKER!
@gene978 Pardon my ignorance, but as a 24 year old, my family has never had a station wagon so I'm unaware of the benefits. Tom states the wagon holds 7 packs of TP which is the same as the sedan version. What is the benefit of having a wagon that has the same amount of cargo area as the sedan. I think this may be a reason americans shy away from wagons. It seems to me that manufacturers try to make the car more sleek looking, but all they do is cut into usable cargo space.
@B00STAH0L1C Put the family dog or a new TV or Grill in the trunk of a sedan can be hard to fit. But when you have the versatility of a wagon different story. This is why the "FORD EXPLORER" was so popular when it came out. well, It was so versatile. And you are right about the new wagons cutting there shapes to make them look "sporty" only takes away from precious cargo area. We grew up family of 7 so I remember the wagon well, And using the roof racks on a trip and loving the very back seat.
It is a shame really. The Dodge Magnum would have done well in limited numbers. Maybe a 300 "Estate" instead? Most sold in Europe no doubt as Lancias. If the FORD Flex isn't some kind of an "Oh no I'm not really a wagon" Wagon, then what really?
I would never honestly think the wagon would return to prominence today, at least not for another 10-20 years, but there are and have been some good ones. The CTS Wagon is one of them.
@DocWolph The sold here in Japan too. To tell you the truth I don't know why it wasn't brought to the states. They literally sold less than 500 of them here. I don't understand how a country with a far smaller customer base case get a variant of a car not available in the U.S.
@flatblackstrat I'll assume you mean the 300 "Estate". From what I understand, the car was sold in Europe as well, however as the Chrysler 300 wagon. But was discontinued with the Magnum. Blame the lack of wagons on the SUV in the US. A few very good Wagons, especially among luxury brands, could make it as a more sensible choice over those CUVs that try to be sport sedans but costing a small fortune to actually do so.
@DocWolph If that's what you want to call it. It wasn't labelled that here, it was the 300 touring. SUVs are fine and dandy along with CUVs, my point is how can you sell something in lower volume in one place than another. The touring would have sold tens of thousands in the states but was not offered, on the other hand it barely sold anything over here like most American cars but it was still offered.
@flatblackstrat It's been a while so I didn't recall what it was called. Besides "Estate" is the typical call for a Station Wagon in Europe, but that's not the real issue. Looking at the Magnum, yes I think a 300 wagon would have and likely still would sell more than enough to justify its existence and become, dare I say, popular. It isn't like Chrysler brand has a luxury S/CUV on the roster right now, does it.
Do all the reviewers like you, drivetime, romanmica, and motorweek just use the use the same car? I ask because it seems like everybody has similar posts from week to week.
@thebenstrong No, I'm certainly the only guy of the bunch on Seattle. Roman is in Denver, Motorweek is on the east coast. Just the way the press fleet works I guess.
