  • Linux on iPhone? Really? iOS is is Linux on iPhone.

  • @tanjoodo lolllllll

  • @tanjoodo iOS is Linux on iPhone? Really? Last time I checked iOS is based from Mac OS X and that is based from BSD...

  • @TheGamingDude23 they all run off of unix

  • @weyg Linux is not Unix.

  • @TheGamingDude23 who the hell said linux is goddamn unix?

  • how do u do that?

  • how do u put linux in to an ipod or iphone? i want to to it with my ipod

  • I don't really get why anyone would want this...

  • what good is linux on it ? as what could you use it for ? hacking ... ? and if this was so how would you do commands with out the usb interface ? as what about the on-screen keyboard.

  • does the iphone need to be jailbroken?

  • so how does someone like me with an ipod touch 2g mc model get all of this?

when ever i'm working on linux on iphone and i reboot, after the reboot it just doesnt give me the OiB. it just goes staight to iPhone OS ... it doesnt really go in my way ( coz when using linux i need a pc around) but i'm annoyed with the fact that i need to retype those 5 strings again and again when starting work on iphone linux kernel

  • 3:26 did a double take lol

Otherwise, really cool! Gotta try this sometime. How did u control the boot menu? Was it touch screen? I noticed the home button was like a select button.

  • There´s a background sound of someone typing on a keyboard so i guess that's how it's done.

  • i would puffer a GUI

  • me 2 !

  • I would prefer compatibility with 3GS or iPod touch 2G. It only works on iPhone 2G and iPod touch 1G..

  • It's a nice idea to run Linux on an iPhone, but if all you have is a shell you control with a computer, it doesn't really make sense and you're better off with Darwin OS (the one that comes with the iPhone)

  • hacking doesn't have to make 'sense'. It's like space exploration: to boldly go where no man has gone before...and not worry whether others think it's a total waste of time or not.

  • @arifreedom Exploring space is about learning more about space. Not just to be there first.

  • Hacking is all about making things do stuff which they where never intended to do. It's about experimentation, education, and finding out how things work.

Often it does not make sense, that's part of the fun of doing things like putting Linux on an iPhone. Simply because it can be done.

Checkout Rockbox, an open source replacement firmware replacement for iPods, Irivers, Archos's, Cowons, Sandisks. This is useful hacking and making DAPs do so much more than the manufacturers intended.

  • You have a point there. Maybe people should try to get Android running on an iPod. You would need a keyboard since it doesn't pop up like on iPhone OS, but it's a great idea.

  • It makes perfect sense!

I doubt that Darwin comes with grep, or ping, or lsusb, for example. Besides, real hackers don't need a GUI.

  • 1* ... I think if planetbeing wanted his video on YouTube, he would have uploaded up. Nice 11,000 views from a stolen video. Douche!

  • No updates? :o

  • this is the coolest shit ever.!!

  • where can i get dis shit! link i tried dont work!

  • Sorry. You need to be able to use proper english to get openiboot on your phone.

  • Why are you replying to me three months later? Did you think i was a nigger? cause I'm not.

  • If it's too much stuff then why not just use "ls" rather than "ls -l" and do without all the extra info all the time? It would be awesoem if you can install window managers etc on too.

  • hey dildos stop fighting over the video

  • Bizarre, one blokes rips it off from adifferent place on the web and posts it on youtube, then complains of theft when someone else does exactly the same thing.

Classic case of "I stole it first nah nah nee nah nah"

  • That's no one's video, its the video of the iPhone's Dev Team .. So you stole the video from the iPhone's Dev Team ;) ..

And btw, I recorded this video from the iPhone Dev Team site, like you did ..
