how come lesser-qualified Level 5 gymnasts sometimes bend at the knee on their way leaning down on the beam to go into a cartwheel or handstand? what's that called? thanx, i want to learn more about proper movements!
You mean when they lever into skills? It differs from coach to coach as to how they want to teach it. Sometimes it works best to lunge into a skill (hence the plie of the front leg) and sometimes the gymnasts find it easier to do a lever on a straight leg. Lunging into skills is not necessarily a deduction but most judges prefer to see straight legged levers.
