  • Please respond to this.

Im doing this on my school macbook, so i get Admin rights.

But, the school blocked the Command+s when you restart your laptop for it to open The Command line.

Will The app 'Terminal' In the Utilities Folder, be the exactly the same thing ?

  • do you need to know their current password...????

  • you say to put in the users (first name only) after /Users/ ????

can you just put in the whole user name?

  • didn't work. I don't know what i did wrong, i wrote down what you wrote five different times and it keeps giving me messages that i dont understand

  • What does it mean socket not plugged ? what socket is it talking about?

  • When I type launchctl load /system/library....

  • Says it can't find the launchctl thingy

  • I would do it but I'm scared that it may mess up my Mac :o

  • Will this delete any other files or information on my mac?

  • Hey I really want to try this...but would it work for a macbook air? A 2012 model? :)

  • @watermelon2326 I'm pretty sure it would work, the best way to figure out is to try it!

  • @TheMacCommunity would this work for a mac osx school laptop

  • Do we put the short name or the full name

  • @DISH161 Full name

  • I want to do this on my school macbook, for admin rights obviously

the admin account will still be on here, so that the IT support can still log into the normal admin, right? I hope that made sense :/

What I mean is will there be 2 admin accounts?

  • @Yennieful Well, what your essentially doing is changing the 1 admin accounts password, your not creating a new account. There are videos out here on youtube which show you how to make another admin account, actually im pretty sure that theres a comment somewhere on this video with the command to do that.

  • i tried this but i only have one account on mine and i need to do it for local and it tells me how so i do it then it says launch_usg socket not connected and it fails everytime. can someone help me?

  • Work thanks no for the keychain bought a MacBook pro from the pawn shop

  • my macbook pro wont work for the comand "s" thing .. what do i do ?

  • i already did that but it doesn't work i hold the keys and nothing happened... what else can i do?

please help me is there another way to do that?

  • thakss alottt it really worksss and its very good

  • this doesnt work on school mac computers...it is verson 10.6.7 and its a Mac OS X

when i shut down and hold command s, it doesnt go into terminal...

  • @EkiM110 Not when you shut down, before you start up.

  • You restart not shut down

  • Thank you soooooo much for this :D

  • Dude thanks very much for this, it worked perfectly. Follow the instructions carefully and you can't go wrong!

    Thanks ag ain

  • Mine doesn't allow me to type anything in it and instead of root it says key. Can you help?

  • btw. "dscl" is the command for any UNIX / BSD based OS for user account management. Was the only way to manage accounts before there were GUI's.

    Anyway thanks.

  • does only work if com.Apple.DirectoryServices.plist or com.Apple.DirectoryServicesLocal.plist is present. Check in spotlight if you find these two files. If not, it simply means that this particular method does not work. Anyway these to "plist" shouldn't be present on your OS X machine, for a good reason.

  • @kxosz9 or at least not visible.

  • when I type launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.Apple.DirectoryServices.plist it says "nothing to load" should i continue with the process or it's better just to leave it be.

  • It worked for me. Thanks alot!

  • is this method safe? will it brake my computer in any way? will it hurt it?

  • And if my username has spaces do i put in the spaces?

  • after i do this instead of giving me a root# it gives me > that and now it says sleep prevented. what do i do???

  • I love you

  • my mom bought me a mac but the account is her account so i dont know the password hopes dis helps

  • didnt work..... -_-

  • thank you so much you saved my computers life and mine ilyy

  • when im pressing /sbin/mount etc/... it doesnt give me orphan, instead it says root

  • I love you.

  • Your mentioning a dot after daemons and I see you put a slash there

  • Does it matter if it is uppercase or lowercase??

  • after i am writing /sbin/mount -uw /

nothing happends and it doesn't writes " nfs: removed 2 orphaned....."

is that ok? i didn't want to continue..

  • thank you my dears

  • @xarakir does it remove any of your old files? like your videos, pictures and stuff <3

just asking before i actually do it haha

  • I have a school mac computer will it do the same and when changing the password will the admin still be able to use his/her own password incase something else happens?

  • after shutting down i tried pressing command key+ S. but it isnt going to single user mode? Tell me an alternative to enable single user mode.

    btw i have a mac os x 10.5.8

  • after shutting down i tried pressing command key+ S. but it isnt going to single user mode? Tell me an alternative to enable single user mode.

  • after shutting it down you press what botton? i

  • I must be mac illiterate.. got a mac but don't know the admin password and don't have the install disk. Got to the part where you type in the user name and I type in every single variation and every time it gives me an error. Grrrr I guess I'll just make a new admin account and delete the old one? this doesn't seem to be working..

  • the daemons part is blurred out its just what i need to finish

  • im having problems with my passwd when i type in dscl . -passwd /users/username passwd i get an error

  • @jaymonder I'm having the same problem. Did you find any solutions?

  • This doesn't work in 10.7 Lion. In addition, you are prevented from changing the root password in single-user mode.

    Another method :

    # rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

    # reboot

This will take allow you to create a fresh account with admin privs, from which you can then easily reset anyone's password.

  • (version)

  • how do i know what os im running on

  • hi.. when i type in * /sbin/mount -uw /* ;it siad * illegal option* what i have to do now... help me please

  • @maddiealexiful yeah...............I think

  • what button is command

  • Good video thank you!!

  • I can't run the console with COMMAND+S. I have MacOs 10.5.8. Thanks

    thank you in advance

  • do i have to use correct capitalization ? and do i need to be logged off the users account or can it just be shut down/

  • If it doesn't work, then your not following all the directions properly. I just tried this on my 2011 iMac running the latest version of lion with iCloud (10.7.2) and it worked just fine. Any firmware below that should work just fine as well

  • @TheMacCommunity or if these (two) files / "plists" are disabled for security reasons ;)

  • This still works everyone. One more thing if you don't know the username then type in :

    Ls / Users

That will list all of the names

  • @TheMacCommunity wait what? :(

  • @TheMacCommunity where do u type Ls / Users can u do a video with it

  • @TheMacCommunity or maybe send me the directions please thanks

  • @TheMacCommunity Can I do this on my Universities Macs aswell?

  • does this work for an older macbook ...mine is running the OS X? i just don't want to mess anything up.

  • @rivea2424 Yes this works for any Mac running any operating system including Lion. This will NOT DELETE any files, just resets the password to your choosing,

  • @TheMacCommunity No, this does not work for every Mac considering it does not work on mine.

  • @macheads101 the comment i replied to has been removed

  • @bhoot619 No you're just stupid and don't know what you're fucking doing.

  • @macheads101 first learn to write the spelling of Christ u son of a bit*h u wrote crist there

    stupid

  • @bhoot619 You're the one who spelled it wrong, I quote "its not Crist". Therefore you need to practice your spelling.

  • @macheads101 are u retarded!!! read my 1st comment i wrote the correct one there.

  • @bhoot619 I can't read it, I think it was marked as spam.

  • I couldn't see the end of what I was suppose to type.

  • it didnt work D:

  • good shit man keep it up =)

  • it does not work

I typed in the user name and password and no change

  • Comment removed

  • does it really work?

  • hey whats up. i was wondering if i do this to my computer would it delete any of my files like all my music in my itunes anyone plssssss

  • didnt work help?

  • I need the administrator password!

  • hey dude my MacBook Pro is from 2008 will it work with that model?

  • this isnt admin password this is login password

  • How do you type in lowecase letters, mine only types in caps

  • Who cares about recovering it. If you have forgotten your pass why not just change it...

  • When I typed exit at the end, another root line showed up.

  • does this really work

  • do i need to be logged out of the admin account for this to work . ?

  • @AppleFangirl17 No Problem! Thanks!

  • @Predator000 Maybe its because you forgot the "L" in "Launch"

  • U DIDNT SHOW HOW TO RECOVER THE PASSWORD...U ONLY SHOWED HOW TO MAKE ONE!!! HOW CAN I RECOVER IT??? THANKS

  • @DOMMYPRODUCTIONS Sorry, but so far as i know, you can't recover the password, you can only change it. But don't trust my word. There is always a way, so good luck! :(

  • Will this wipe the current accounts or just make a new one thats an admin?????? SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER AND I'LL SUBSCRIBE

  • @mrcrazyboy911 This does nothing like that! This just "hacks" the current password!

  • @mrcrazyboy911 Btw, none of your files will be deleted!

  • @TheMacCommunity Will it wipe any of the accounts already on the computer???

  • does this create a new acount

  • @Fatalsms no you change the admin's password.

  • Doesnt work tryed it about 20 times

  • there is a much simpler way to do it, once you have written the code

/sbin/mount -uw / click enter, on the next line write

passwd username (write the name of the account you want to hack in username)

it will tell you to write the new password, then it will ask you to re type it (confirm it)

then just type reboot to restart the computer, no long hard codes required, try it out

  • make the video better put the Camera in front of screen so we can see what your typing.

  • a little help please every time i type in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.Apple.DirectoryServices.plist

is saids "socket is not connected"

    please help

  • Could it work with os 10 lion or snow leopard

  • It works!!

  • @MrMichaelortizisgay1 try

    mount -uw/

    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

u get to create a new admin account

  • @Iloverrb with only works for "Mac"s

  • @Iloverrb this only works on macs

  • i prefer replacing the second line with rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

and rebooting. then i create a new admin account, change the root password with terminal and login into the root account, delete the created account

  • UR AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

  • DUDE THANKS ALOT

  • do you think this will work for a school mac with adminisrator rights

  • @capone224 i used another method and literally changed all the mac admin passwords for my school, spent a week changing them all back when i got caught

  • Yea but I don't want to change it, I just want to find out what it is, The password information has to be stored somewhere in the mac.

  • @TheRaisedFist29 get the root account, have ur admin type in their password and use keychain with root account

    doesnt always work though

  • when i do it it works but it says the password is wrong!

  • this is a kid. and this is legit

  • when i type in aunchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.Apple. DirectoryServices.plist

its ays that it cant find the file

  • I did just as you said, and it worked. But when I type in my new password it still doesn't work. Can this have anything to do with my automatic log-in?

    Please help

  • lol i sometimes do sbon as well

  • i do that and my keyboard works but my mac is just macbook

  • ya my keyboard works but i dont know what to do please help

  • Looks like it would be really useful if one ever forget their password.

    Just a few nit-picky things:

OS X is pronounced "Oh ess TEN", not "Oh ess EX"

And a much less important thing, you used "slash" (/) and "dash" (-) correctly at first, but then later started calling both symbols dash.

Just being very picky, great video!

  • @LOTRzagorath Thanks for the feedback! Always Appreciated!

  • @TheMacCommunity yo my dad put a password on my old account which was an administrator and made me a new one with internet restrictions and all that bullshit, how can i find out his password so like it tells me the password itself soi can just log into my old account when ever i want without him knowing? cheers
