When on tour with Evan. I wrote a song on that guitar in Tokyo back on 1994. Still have tons of photos and the only video of his whole concert which he let me film. Never seen by anyone not even Evan.
@wrecktem sure let me explain ,,,, They show was recorded live wicked early so I dropped my 440 standard concert pitcch down like two whole steps - so i could sing a little lower - the chord progression is the same just lower !
I can't believe this is on YouTube. I *VIVIDLY* remember watching this (almost sure it was summer time). I was about 12 or so. I remember knowing, even then, how fucked up it was that they got a legit gen-x semi-underground talent on REGIS & KATHY LEE of all shows! Awesome.
I interviewed him not too long after he did this, and I asked him about it. He tuned down, because the taping was so early that his voice was not ready for the regular key. I don't know what he tuned down to, unfortunately.
His guitar is tuned down a full step. As far as I can tell he's not using different chords. Oh, and he is so NOT playing live here. They must've down a prerecording or something.
Is this really true? How do you know? I mean, I had already found it interesting that he was talking and just sort of went into it in a split second... I found it very suspicious, but decided to attribute it to his talent or something...
@sulfershads It's a little late to reply to this comment, but someone had to do it; I can't believe you would say w/ such self assuredness that he WASN'T playing live here...it's ridiculously obvious he is, there is nothing there that should have made you doubt that, unless your audio and video are out of sync for some reason...he is so NOT playing to a recording...he'd have to be the greatest lip sync artist on Earth.
@cathoderoy That's what I said. He is playing it live. As for playing it slightly different on acoustic guitar he doesn't arpegiatte rather strum the F chord.
@whpriol1 I interpreted "Oh, and he is so NOT playing live here." as meaning he is NOT playing live...how could I have been so stupid? It means he IS playing live, right? Silly fucking me....
interview was a bit tedious/embarrassing but what a lovely performance! i like the way he starts talking and then goes straight into it in the same way that a nurse asks you a question and then administers the injection while you're thinking about your answer and before you know what's going on.
Kurt Cobain likened Evan to a faithfull dog (it was a labrador or golden retreiver,anyway-)his point was that amongst all the madness and fakes was evan dando,a dude who was loyal and genuine, from this interview you can see where he was comin from
@sockironer Wha? Evan was putting out jems at the same time or before Nevermind. Besides he isn't a Cobain impersonator. That all came a minute later with the Weezer and Bush crowd.
@reissue dude you totally didnt get the point, which was that kurt cobain openly referred to Evan as a trustworty dependable guy, he even went on to say rather like a faithfull dog. To be honest I cant for the life of me see where you can interpret what I said as being anything to do with anyone impersonating anyone, just that kurt really liked evans all,, but hey no worries we all get the wrong end of the stick sometimes
@reissue Mate,, I know,, The Lemonheads were about AGES before Nirvana hit the scene,, with some great LP's to... And for the last time anyone can tell Evan Dando had his own thing going on and wasnt about to follow anybodys style,, let alone Kurts - personally I think Evan was always just as cool as Kurt,, more laid back ya know? Maybe Kurt used the wrong phrasing with the loveable trustworthy dog reference,, but all he really meant was Evan was a real cool gent who was loyal as a friend 2 Kurt
@reissue Weezer does not sound anything like nirvana. They were inspired by earlier power pop acts such as cheap trick. I agree with you on Bush though, they are horrible, along with all of the other post-grunge corporate garbage.
regis: you're hot evan
