We Were Soldiers has a little too much American military bombast for my liking. But it is powerful nonetheless. One thing I hope one day shall be adressed is the story of the defeated. How the Viet Cong veterans live within society today? How do many Japanese veterans deal with the conscience that their culture and training turned them into animals? Are the veterans of the Wermacht haunted as they now know all their suffering was for the complete eradication of the Jewish race?

Overall, the movie was a fairly decent depiction of the battle, until the end when Gibson goes all Hollywood with the bayonet charge. Never happened. And the movie only presents half the battle. The 2/7th and 1/5th were sent in to reinforce Moore's 1/7th. Thinking the battle over the 1/7 was withdrawn. The 2/7 and 1/5 walked into a massive ambush on the way to LZ Albany and suffered even heavier casualties than the 1/7. Read the book. It's worth it.

Shelby, this movie was about the battle fo the Ia Drang valley. It is based on the book written by LtGeneral Hal Moore, who fought at the battle, and Joe Galloway who was a photographer embedded with the 7th Cavalry. It is required reading by the Commandant of West Point. The movie is considered by the men who were there to be one of the most realistic war movies ever. That people who have no clue can watch it and feel some of the horror of war is to it's honor. Grow up.

I am from France. My Uncle and Father both went to Indochine or Vietnam and fought there. Lucky they both surived that war. My respects to the Americans who had to go but did not come back. As well as the Australians, New Zealanders, Thai and Philippines soldiers and South Vietnamese.

Shelby, this movie was about the battle fo the Ia Drang valley. It is based on the book written by LtGeneral Hal Moore, who fought at the battle, and Joe Galloway who was a photographer embedded with the 7th Cavalry. It is required reading by the Commandant of West Point. The movie is considered by the men who were there to be one of the most realistic war movies ever. That people who have no clue can watch it and feel some of the horror of war is to it's honor. Grow up.

Bigots and aristocrats on Capital Hill, controlled by the pigs and jackals on Wall Street, sent tens of thousands of beloved, scared, and potent young men to their deaths with no clear objective except to shoot anyone who shot at them. after the bodies stacked up, the pigs just shrugged their shoulders, knocked over the checkerboard, & said "we're done." the same goes for the soviets in Afghanistan.

I really hate how kids talk about guns, war, and killing people in war like they dont care. As if...its just cool and fun and games to them. But really...they will never know. They will NEVER understand the severity and emotional breakdown of war. They will never know until they expirience that themselves. And if they do...it WILL be a rude awakening. God bless the souls of all the fallen and give grace to all those who serve.

I am from France. My Uncle and Father both went to Indochine or Vietnam and fought there. Lucky they both surived that war. My respects to the Americans who had to go but did not come back. As well as the Australians, New Zealanders, Thai and Philippines soldiers and South Vietnamese.

@alsenar I suppose you are a Communist or at least a "patriot" of a Communist state, correct? If by the off chance I'm wrong, then you are a traitor to all the soldiers of all countries who fought in this war. Do you want to know what the Viet Cong "freedom fighters" did to the citizens of Saigon when we left? Two things: 1. Sent to "Reeducation Camps" or 2. Murdered. There will always be war crimes commited by both sides, but to say the Viet Cong were "good" and the U.S.A. "bad", is insulting.
