question for you, if you use the side fan as an intake fan do you get the annoying whine noise? my haf 912 side panel fan gives off a very high pitched noise if set to intake on the side. it seems to be because of the honeycomb style vent. do you know of a solution for this?
@Mobius1ac Use a 120x25 fan shroud, take a cheap or broken 120mm fan and gut the insides so its just frame. Check my other HAF 912 videos think I show it on one of them.
check out the silverstone penetrater fans they make exelent intake fans, yeah my buddy had a similiar problem with the mesh as well im going to suggest your idea to him, thanks for posting
@ComputerTechTV Try to install them with the fans blowing away from the filter to get good air flow. I had them the other way around at first, the way Silverstone installed them in my HTPC case. Check out my videos & u can see what I did.
You hit it right on the head.....Depending of the hole size and the spacing between each hole will determine how much restriction you will have. If you want to know for sure McMaster Carr has a chart showing percentage of restriction for every shape, size, material perforated material they sell. Normally the mesh steel in our PC's can restrict from 40% to 60% air flow......
Also not matter what kind of filter you put in there, they kill like 50-70% of airflow anyway, so don't delude yourself. I installed a screen mesh custom filters in my HAF 932, made a video a while ago, but I never had a 912 in my hands, so I can't say how to solve your problem completely. If it was a side panel, like I'm gonna do probably, I'd cut holes in the surface and then mounted aluminum filters and then the intake fans behind them, so all you do is vacuum the filter from the outside :)
I got me some of those Silverstone filters. Problem is that they can't be fitted easily b/w the case and the front of the intake, and also you have to remove the screws to take out the filter for cleaning. And if you put it the way its designed, like on the back of the intake - eventually your fan will become clogged with dust or cease, so you have to still remove the fan to clean it, plus you have to have access to the filters to clean them... I have some other ideas, but I got a bigger case...
If you mobo supports PWM fans, you could go with Scythe Kama Flex 120mm x 25mm PWM Fan w/ S-Fluid Dynamic Bearings (SA1225FDB12H-P) (300-1600rpm), for fan filters, its up to you, but there are some nice magnetic fan filters check on frozencpu DEMCiflex Cooler Master HAF 912 Magnetic Dust / Fan Filter Set - 5 Piece.
Yeah it kinda suks bro, I did this with my HAF X case, I removed the dust filters and got better temps with pretty much all components, I put the dust filters back in and then the airflow/intake was cut down alot more then I thought so its kinda like.....have better cooling but more dust inside case without filters or use dust filters but not as good cooling...@_@
@Lionheart1188 Depends on where you live. If you live somewhere that always has wind, or you have a bunch of people in your house keep the filters. Otherwise I think I'd take them off.
Name of the led fans?

would a 200mm fan have trouble cooling with the current dust filter?

@RoflCoptr20 No its will be fine.

Use panty hose as a cheap solution

just do what ppl been doing for ages...use pantyhose as filters... bigger the stretch bigger the airflow.

hard drivers dont really need too be cooled lol
unless ur running them24/7 at high load
sharpshoooter82 7 months ago
@sharpshoooter82 his isn't just for the hard drive but for intaking cool air to the rest of the components.
ComputerTechTV 7 months ago
@sharpshoooter82 A harddrive will last a lot longer with lower temps. It will also perform a lot better. I tested this my self.
