Being the huge Killer7 fan that I proudly am, I still wonder if the game could have been better if they kept some of the "beta" elements that were cut-off
I wish I'd been able to play through the scenes in here that weren't included in the final version. >_> The things that were the most badass in this game were cut, seriously.
Oh men, this is my favorite game in all history. Really, when i got it from a friend like for two weeks i fully ended it on 4 days. I think the complex history of it blowed my mind away. It's style, it's blood, everything. It should exist a similar game, with complex history and wierd characters. I think they should exist more freakish games like this one, i just love the freakish games :D:D:D:D:D!
The reason why it got such bad opinions is because of the different way it controls. "Rails" are hated because they give less sense of explore. But the rail system in this game worked perfectly because it's different style. The story is confusing but great that gives it it's own purpose. This game is very unique, and that no other game came be compared to this.
See, the rails contribute to the meaning of the game; that you actually aren't in control of your life, that you're just a pawn in a grand chess game. In my play-throughs I never once found myself thinking "Man, I wish I could go over there, damn this rails system!"
@Dovieandi23 Not really. But certainly, they can be seen as a comment on the way other games work. In a lot of adventure games, you can only go on a certain path, and everything else is covered up with invisible walls. Killer7 criticizes and avoids the invisible walls syndrome by taking away the illusion of free movement.
@Dovieandi23 This comment's pretty old but I figured I'd reply. All the references to chess seemed to me to be a metaphor for inner being. Emir was delusional. Harman and Kun were the light and dark sides of his personality. Kun won the last game of chess, thus Emir's appearance at the end of the game. Heaven Smile could also be a form of denial, and once all were eradicated, Emir learned the truth about himself. However, with others like Matsuoka, the same kind of struggle would go on
@Momentum139 lol thanks. I would love to but don't really see getting anywhere any time soon at least. I could at least try as a hobby with Game Maker, but it seems like you'd have much more freedom with whatever big companies use to develop their games.
@EvilUser which really sucks, because we see a trend of generic FPSes and "overtly Japanese" games out. If somebody with the ability to tell an intricate storyline that makes the player think about the game they just played could step in, we'd have a lot more of these interesting games. But that's the market I suppose, if I were a more dedicated person, I'd love to change that - grab Hideo Kojima, Suda51, and Shinji Mikami - lock them in a room together with pen & paper, and see what happens.
alright, i just got this game. Itys highly adictive, and its also veeery fun. But cmon, its not like there are amny games like it, And even for a GC game, ITS FREKAING AWEDSOME. and you just cant wquealify the graphics, i mean, they are unique.
Well duh i know that. but the way they were in the moment was different to any other cel shaded. You really would compare the caricaturesque TLOZ:WW to this murderous mayhem?
man, does anyone know where i can get my hands on a copy of killer7 beta, like the original version. or the novel, or actin figures,or comics? ANYTHING???
This trailer had footage that looked better than that in the game. This game is so creepy.. But I love it. Sometimes I think I see the heaven smiles in a dark room.. even if I haven't played the game in monthes.
so much that didn't make it into the final version. it looks like you either fight or do a mercy killing on the lady whose legs get blown up in Angel. kinda creepy.
Yeah that was one of the Red gunners. In another Killer7 beta movie I downloaded I did a frame progression and wedged inside the movieclips- (rather subliminally) is just a second or so clip of Coyote Smith shooting her in the head to finish her off.
You can see where they kept including those keyframe scenes like how Harman Smith turns and peers through the shattered glass out towards the audience, cool scene but I don't remember it in the final version, did they cut it or was it tooled around so much it became unrecognizeable?
I wish they would've made Garcian upgradeablae and switchable like the other personas- he's got one of the coolest designs and it sucks that he isn't as good in battle as the other characters...
Its really hit or miss when I try to do Garcie's down attack too, any suggestions? :(
You can also see how they were experimenting with the reload animation- as how instead of showing a side angle of your character reloading, the camera zooms out behind the character's back and then zeroes back in onto the target. I think they should've included both
Well either way, the early stages of Killer7 looked awesome- they should've included far more of their prototype work in the final product. Lighting Heaven Smiles on fire via candlesticks and kerosene lamps = cool.
sorry... what?

No, I remember that they did keep that scene after the first level. It's more done-up than this version however.

You can see where they kept including those keyframe scenes like how Harman Smith turns and peers through the shattered glass out towards the audience, cool scene but I don't remember it in the final version, did they cut it or was it tooled around so much it became unrecognizeable?
