Most people applauded when Vader starting breathing for the first time, but for me it was when Vader spoke for the first time in that deep Iconic voice.
@Fbiguy Yeah, my guess is the probably put the glove on while they were putting everything else on that wasn't there before. Like the helmet. And the other arm and legs.
i thought this was one of the best scenes in all the franchise (and still do) but after playing the video games and observing vader's power as portrayed in there and palpatine's power to launch platforms and the fact vader had more mitochondrians than yoda, i think they should have made this scene much more destructive.
It's kind of ironic, if you think about it, the original trilogy portrays Darth Vader as a consensus of darkness, an evil, calculating, merciless man, who lacks patience. Basically, the greatest villain ever made.
L" Things are always seen in a perspective ". It tells the story of Anakin, and makes Darth Vader look more like a tragic victim. And to this day, I dont understand the motivation of Anakin, when Padmé died. Still, a I'm a bit more of the old Star Wars, even though I was born in '91
@Shicbs really what else does he have to do, if he trys to leave the emporer he'll probably be killed by him, and even if he does succead then what, his lovers dead, the only people who took him in are either dead (the jedi) or think he is a monster and can never forgive him(obi, organa, yoda) so there really is no other option than wait for palpatien to die so he can take over
@GameBusterZero It wasn't from losing the hand; he was still alive when he saves Luke, obviously. Oh, right.....THE ELECTRICITY. When he picked up the Emperor, he GOT ZAPPED. HIS ENTIRE BODY, GOT ZAPPED WITH ELECTRICITY, AND MOST OF HIS BODY WAS MECHANICAL. Can you add 1 + 1?
I still don't understand why the emperor saved vader. His purpose was served, the jedi were dead. The prophecy was still there that Anakin would bring balance to the force and Sidious knew that being the only two force sensitive people would mean trouble if his apprentice lived. The plot point in the cannon is not sufficient for me to buy any humanitarian interest in the emperor's actions so why save the man that could kill you?
@Frankcastle522 "Always two there are. No more...no less. " - Jedi Master Yoda
But then again, perhaps Palpatine shrugged off the prophecy, interpreting it as the Sith bringing in the balance, eliminating the "light" side of the force and replacing it with "darkness". Unless you haven't researched it yet(or lack a social life like I do), it is a Dark Sider tradition for the Apprentice to kill his Lord/ Master, a final rite to Supreme Sith Lordship. In other words: "Klingon Promotion".
@P3WNAGE Possibility I suppose, but if Palpentine was willing to let two of his previous apprentices die, why not the third, he said to yoda Vader will become more powerful then the both of us. Why not let him die if he suspected Anakins power to keep growing?
@Frankcastle522 The Emperor had always intended for Darth Vader to remain his apprentice. When Anakin was mortally wounded at Mustafar Palpatine knew he had an even better opportunity with Anakin than before: he would have a powerful apprentice that, due to his apparent limitations in his suit would never be able to overpower him and therefore he would always remain in control (and alive). Darth Vader admits this in ROTJ to Luke (and numerous times in EU), and Palpatine is...cont'd
@Frankcastle522 ...and Palpatine is always looking for replacements (Luke, Starkiller, etc.) that would eventually become his true apprentice. The emperor frequently reminds Vader that he will be useful until he finds another more powerful than him.
This movie should have ended RIGHT after Vader took his first breath in the mask. It would emphasize that already powerful moment, which is what the entire prequel trilogy was leading up to anyway. Fade to black, roll credits with Imperial March playing instead of the usual upbeat theme. Perfect lead in to the original trilogy, and also nullifies any horrendous "NOOOOOO!!!" scenes.
I think Lucas should have preserved the identity of Vader for people to figure out later in Episode V. Instead of showing Anakin in surgery, he should have just had the last scene on the Star Destroyer, maybe having the Officers saying "Its the Emperor's new apprentice" or something. It seems untrue to the series to reveal it twice.
A few other edits should be cutting down the Duel on Mustafar, a few dialogue changes, removing "will to live", and fixing that atrocious space battle.
Does anyone think this would have looked much better without the dry ice smoke effects? I think Vader's appearance is spooky enough that they don't need to "enhance" the scene. After all, he was voted among the five most evil people to ever grace the movie screen.
I can actually feel the pain in his heart
