1. Most of the ass-backwards made up words/irrelevant words and shit in this law was edited. out.
2. The word "effect" fits there just fine, not sure why she corrected it. Its a less common use of the word as a verb that means "bring about".
3. This law, while edited now, is still a complete and utter disgrace. Its still politicizing a scientific study as a means of protest. Its nuts. Its unacceptable. Its thermological. I don't like it.
"As HL Mencken profoundly stated: 'As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
Proportionality in the media, rather than a need to find targets to mock, would do our society a lot of good. I don't find it attractive that Maddow choose victims that pretty much can't fight back (citizens of a small, not particularly wealthy state), while using time to cover an insignificant story. All in all, this story was polarizing and thus negative, even for the cause of stopping climate change.
@givebirthathome It wasn't a bunch of 12 year olds who wrote the resolution, it was actual elected representatives of a state legislature, and when people in positions of power write something so obviously idiotic, it deserves mocking, not least to highlight the anti-science, anti-intellect mindset that is so prevalent in the GOP.
@david030491 Maddow is often wrong about science. In fact, astrological factors (in the sense of the position of the planets) do effect the ionosphere, which has been known since the beginning of radio.
I've also seen Maddow take a wrong position on fluoride---but hey, she disagrees with a Nobel prize winner in pharmacology, and the toxicologist who studied the neurotoxic effects in animals herself-- but, I guess I'll go with Maddow, that way I can fit in with whatever the crowd is mocking.
@givebirthathome Her point, which you apparently missed, is that astrology refers to the effect that the position on astronomical bodies has on human nature. It is astronomical factors that affect climate. These are people who purport to be representatives and leaders, not mere citizens, they should NOT be passing bills composed of bad grammar, made-up words, and mysticism. The "wealth" of the state is no excuse for stupid people to perpetuate the effect of their lack of education on our kids.
@nosferotica1 oh cool you're so smart i wish my brain was as big as yours you embarrassed me so much look at my fucking name dude you think i seriously care oh and its not kid that poops i am "the" kid that poops wheres your big fat throbbing brain now
Well hey, I guess it happens when you think you've got a big fat throbbing brain when you speak of sun and stars, pointing out the "idiocy" of the talking head.
" 'Astro' is like... Space... and 'ology' is like... Science or something... So she's dumb."
And the only thing your name said to me was "I have a potty sense of humor," which of course made your sophomoric response predictable.
@nosferotica1 your silly i like you and i know its the wrong your should be you're but man you are a cool guy and if you're a girl thats even better if you live in south dakota we should hang sometime

Kid that poops...
She was right. Astrology is the study of stars on human behavior. Astronomy is the actual study of stars.
Astrologers tell your horoscope, astronomers work for NASA.
Sorry you missed it, then you wouldn't look dumb like she theoretically did.

Even though Im a left winger, I always got annoyed when Europeans acted as if we Americans are too stupid to govern ourselves...
I think I'm going to have to reconsider that.
