@mcrd2001 If Islam=x, Christianity=y, Buddhism=z and 'every other religion'=n, then x=y=z=n=0.It's all bullshit. They are equally batshit insane. There is no god, grow up.
Norway, Denmark, Belgium and sweden are all atheistic countries and these are some of the best countries in the world to live in terms of low crime rate, health, education, well being and productivity.
The sooner that this world ditches religion the better.
@zafthedon they may have been atheistic but atheism itself was not the problem. The problem was that both Stalin and Pot ran their countries in accordance with twisted ideologies which were just as irrational, just as harmful and just as dangerous as dogmatic religion.
You may be right but it seems athiesm suffers from the same problem as any religion or belief system - it can be used for dangerous and hamrful purposes.
@zafthedon ideologies can be created out of absolutely anything. The point is that atheism itself is not at all harmful because it is nothing more than the lack of belief in god.
If for example someone were to create an ideology whereby the purpose is to irradicate religion that would of course be wrong but the harm would be in the ideology, not atheism itself.
right but how do you come to the conclusion that Norway,Denmark, sweden and Belgium are atheistic countries - last time i Checked they were secular and not based on the idea of atheism or any religion - although they do have a tradition of being christian countries. Wouldnt china and North korea be better exmaples as the state government is atheistic and not secular.
@zafthedon Norway,Denmark, sweden and Belgium are secular. What I mean is that the majority of people in these counties are atheist. The point I was making is that these are examples of successful countries where religion is almost non existent.
China and North Korea are atheistic countires but the fact that they are atheistic is not the reason why they are messed up. It's to do with the control the government has over the people and the laws which they have in place.
so if the people of North korea and China are messed up not beacsue of atheism but lets say bad governance then wouldnt a better argument be that Norway, Denmark, sweden and Belgium are "successful" not because majority of the population is atheistic (as the population of china and north korea is as well) but due to good governance.
@zafthedon I never said that Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Belgium are successful "because" they are atheistic. Afterall, atheism is simply the lack of belief in god. What I'm saying that these are examples of successful countries in which most of the people are non religious. They show that religion is not necessary for a healthy, safe, productive society.
@RationalConclusion Yours is an interesting thought, but what exactly do you regard as a healthy, safe and productive society and by what/whose standard are you basing your conclusion? Have you ever travelled to those countries, spoken to its citizens, police force and govenment officials? How many wars have those contries endured and what was the last time these countries experienced a war on their territory?
I listened to this lecture live many years ago in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada!!

@xomiakas I was, of course, speaking tongue in cheek. I thought the sparnsess of my comment was very elegant and, by the way, I am fully grown.
