DFD's diction and control of the melodic line is something to marvel at. One can really appreciate the genius of Schubert. Also, the genius of Liszt, for his version for solo piano captures the spirit to perfection - at least when played well.
Thanks a lot for posting this wonderful performance with text and translation.
Thank you for this sublime audio/visual presentation. What a great combination of artists: Schubert, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Gerald Moore, and the many wonderful painters you've chosen, all of them doing great justice to the poetry of Friedrich Leopold, Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg (1750-1819). Thank you again--this time for your thoughtfulness in adding the English translation of the original German. Just wanted you to know that I appreciate all of your efforts.
Yes, Monet; a few Russian painters; another French artist [Fauvist] named Othon Friesz; & Winslow Homer [American]. With French painters, there are so many to choose from! I just chose the paintings randomly to go with the text. I am not too knowledgable in visual arts - I mainly know music. Thank u for commenting!!
Thank you so much, Olia [why won't the "up thumb" go more than once?? I'm glad u like it. I thought u would like some of my favorite paintings by Russian artists! Thanks again; I am always so grateful 4 ur comments!! Bye 4 now, -b:)
Nothing but a masterpiece. Thanks a lot for posting, dear Barbara.

Fischer-Dieskau in his youth was the best interpreter of Schubert's lieder, without a doubt.

Between the majestic accompaniment and the interpreters...I doubt you could have a much more moving version of this lied.
