Being that Shakespeare doesn't use a lot of stage direction in his plays, it is open for various interpretations: there is no right way. I thought he did alright tho.
@ColonelJensBACK I totally agree with you...I fucking hate it when guys play Romeo like a little lovestruck pussy. He is talking to himself in this scene - merely observing - and when one talks to themselves they hardly gasp and orgasm in their voices like so many other Romeos do.
@Redfortune14 Soo true.. theres also a definite difference between theatre Romeo's and Movie Romeo's.. i definatly alwasy perfer movie ones.. lol they seem so genuine. =D
I'm afraid you miss the point. In Shakespeare plays NO ONE EVER SPEAKS TO THEMSELVES. They are either speaking to the another character or to the audience. As for the orgasm in the voice: this is big, bold verse. It needs to be filled. The words are there to express great emotion. While they do a lot of the work themselves when spoken properly, the actor also needs to feel into them.

I hope we get to do this play in school this year. I hav been practicing since i was practically four! I really hope, if we do do this play, I'll be Juliet.
What's the point in using these poor Shakespearean dramatisations made expressly for teaching purposes, when an infinite number of recorded performances made by good or great actors is available? Use the BBC Shakespeare collection, or the Caedmon audio collection, instead!
Good expression?! :50 - "Oh, it is my love! / Oh, that she knew she were!" Listen to the "Oh." That is the least expression I have ever heard on what perhaps deserves the most expression. Where is the heart wrenching love? Where is the internal battle between his love and his knowledge that she is a Capulet? Where is the sexual desire? NOTHING IS THERE!!!! NO EMOTION!
Bad acting from Romeo.

Absolute rubbish, talent wasted.

He sounds so passionless, and expressionless. Hardly a man in love.

But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief
That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she.
i sooooooooo love that scene

I've been up there. I have played Romeo, and as a Shakespearian actor, I expect more. So as I said, no expression whatsoever.
