  • This is one of the best films. I saw it back when it was actually at the movies. It was a great movie. Coburn is the coolest in anything he does. His shoes will be forever empty. This is a great classic sleeper and everytime I recommend it to anyone they come back with that was a great film. Brillant. There is an other film that Coburn did which is called A Reason to Live and Reason To Die where he is like a dirty dozen in the Civil War and he has to capture some gold in a Confederate Fort.

  • This is a classic.....

  • Picked up a Morricone piano book recently -- love playing this song, one of his best!

  • They say "Sean-Sean-Sean", John in Irish. Like Juan is Spanish.

  • Yes I think this is in my top 5. I took a chance on this movie and I couldnt believe how people slept and continues to sleep on this, I can watch this movie over and over!!!

  • at 1:27 amazing cry music......no this film is amazing at the start in end

    sorry for my bad language

  • Wicked, top drawer, absolute belter of a film--saw it first in early 90's and was blown away by plot, sound and acting. Very powerful and moving piece of music!!! Thanks a lot!!!!

  • Beautiful composition!

  • cockburn' character is john h mallory, an Irish man, john is Seán (shawn) in Irish, perhaps thats what they're singing, rather than shom shom?

  • Shom shom shom.

  • @BilalMir1982 I Believe it says "Sean, Sean, Sean" not Shom ;)

  • where can i get the mp3 for that song

  • 10 all time fav's

  • Shom

  • I'm not ashamed to say that the end of this film made me cry ):

  • @rsmith606 me too, amazing movie.

  • @rsmith606 It's strange, at the time I thought I was the only one to cry (nearly) to a spaghetti western, now I know I'm not alone. bye

  • @polmas i still cry today my friend when I listen to it!

  • @maskerao its your childhood in that movie

  • Its sad when all the rebielion is killed in the caves, i felt so sorry for him at that moment cos they did there best 2 stop the convo then got betrayed and his hole family was killed...

  • What a masterpiece, superb emotive music.....

was Coburn the coolest motherfucker or what ?

  • @Dezzieatwell I think Coburn is unike.. His role is usually anti-hero bastard, never really acts James Bondlike hero. whitch is good. One of my favorite actors.

  • @Kananmunakas Except when he did "In Like Flint"

  • @Dezzieatwell if you love Coburn in this one, check out "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid". i watched it for the first time about two weeks ago. amazing movie. but i'm partial to this one. this music sounds almost other worldly. not like anything i ever heard.

  • Livegrenade is correct about the guilt, but it is left to your imagination as to whether John turned Sean in out of jealousy or he killed his best friend because he was an informant.

  • Think the music is DYNAMITE and the film? ....

    Simply a Classic!

And oh yeah.....The LiveGrenade is spot on!

Thank goodness there are still some clear thinking people on this planet - Beware though, that group is shrinking by the day!

  • i believe they are saying "sean". i think guilt is a major element of the film, with coburn thinking repeatedly of the friend he killed. he deserved it though, fuckin snitch.

  • Thanks for clarifying this for me. I always wondered why he kept thinking back. Thanks!

  • one of the most wonderful soundtrack ... so sweet

  • I had this soundtrack on vinyl in the 70's and played it until it wore out.....the best.

  • TheLiveGrenade, you're completely wrong, there is absolutelly nothing in the movie or othervise that gives any ground to your theorie.

  • @PhoenixThe3rd Actually, on the director's commentary on the film, that's what they talk about. TheLiveGrenade is actually quite right.

  • lovely music and a great film

  • The chorus is indeed singing "Sean, Sean, Sean". But why? Johns friend that is seen in the flashbacks is named Sean.

    (OI, MAJOR SPOILER HERE!)

Due to Johns jeoulusy over their shared love triangle with another woman. John betrayes Sean to the British. Sean is tortured, and he leads the British to John whos in a bar. John shoots all of them, and thus our story begins in Mexico.

Seans ghost follows him though, and haunts him with the flashbacks. The music is Sean uttering his name.

  • its sean defo

  • Does anyone know what the chorus is saying? I often listen to this song and tell myself that they are singing my name: Sean.

  • According to many on the other postings, it's Sean. You're right!

  • A radio station in Montreal with the call letters CHOM uses this melody in their advertising. To me the singing will always sound like "schome".

  • Back in 1973, I would sing schome schome schome... but a friend of mine once said it was John John, since the guy's name is John. But somebody said it was Sean, another character in the film. I confess I haven't seen it, although I have the torrent. Shame!

  • Juan, John.

  • One of the greatest film ever, I love this film so much

  • @Daveandpro - yes, me too. Ennio is amazing. Many emotions evoked from this movie.

  • awesome movie!!!!!watch it at least twice a month!!

  • love the music

  • Tune.

  • Brilliant!
