My friend and I spent the last half hour of the race up in the big oak tree on the outside of Big Bend, watching the Ferrari trying to chase down the Ford. One heck of a race.
I was one of the camera crew for this film. We worked for Triangle Films, and the program was done for air the following weekend on ABC's Wide World of Sports. I covered the track from the bridge following the Esses through the hairpin. In those years of more lax safety, I could hand-hold my camera right at the apex of the hairpin and could just about reach out and touch the cars as the passed. My lens was no more than 3 feet from the cars at times. I look at it now and cringe!
1969 was the last year for the Le Mans start,as well as for a Ford Victory at either Sebring or Le Mans.Porsche would win the World Sports Car Title this particular year.
That was my first year going to the 12 Hours,.. I was 8 years old then. Haven't missed but 1 race since. Even went in the mis 70's when they didn't have a race.

I believe there were actually two - they were MGC GTS's, a special competition development of the short-lived MGC GT road car.
