  • aptera sounds very similar to aperture... NOT MAKING ANY ASSUMPTIONS

  • これってリッジ4のテラジの車にそっくり!!!!

  • Rip

  • the BIG OIL kill all electric cars.....they bought away the directors....don't believe me?

  • @rupindo2 ...Totally..!! I wonder how much cash Fambro got paid to kill his electric car.

  • How would you park this car?

  • RIP aptera. thanks to the new CEO from detroit 3, the company is now bust.

  • Too expensive. I’d buy it for <$10,000, if it comes with a better looking shape, and doesn’t feel like it’s gonna fall apart, a light breeze could tip it over or I’ll die if I ever crash with a bicycle.

  • Telogis is the answer for that car

  • sperm car :D

  • Cut the cost. I can buy a sub compact for less and still pay for the gas to drive it for the next ten years for $25,000. CUT THE COST sell more and still make money while saving the world.

  • Already Bankrupt?

  • very light shell. Crunch

  • i bet these would be great in a collision with anything.......

  • @THEmanTHATSwhite my thoughts exactly... *CRUNCH*

  • @ParadeofCrows haha for sure

  • We'll all be mooching charges off each other soon!

  • That is so awful, who the hell wants to drive around in a sperm cell?

  • @shawnmd I do

  • @shawnmd second class ride is better than a first class walk, jerky!

  • Looks great.

But I'd be a bit wary to catching those wheel pods on something and knocking them off

  • I like it!

  • I want one :)

  • This is beautiful. I fucking hate sports cars, fuck them. Look to the future.

  • waste of money !!!!

  • if the "Back to the future" movies were filmed today, the car would be an Aptera instead of a Delorian

  • Here we are, late fall 2010, Aptera has nothing to show yet. I checked there web page and don't see how I could get one (Even if I was a CA resident). So did govt Red tape kill this?

  • @civicex5speed Thats what does upset me too. Lots of talking, no delivery :-((

  • Hey Brian Moody, that clip you narrated about Tesla Roadster was pure bull. What are you, funded by Big Oil or what?

  • I like it. just saw Running On Lithium and that I like much more.

  • very cool

  • The solar power is just work the same way as new prius..

    2.32

JUZ a "ventilation of the passenger room to make it cool"

sorry man not a recharging, you need to listen better zilcher and another 7 dumbs

  • Why the hell did they changed the design of Aptera!!? It looks great on this video, but have you seen the latest video of the Aptera? :(

  • looks like a sperm cell

  • i want one!

  • neat

  • As beneficial as this is, it most likely won't keep you alive in a crash.

  • @mingleduck Actually, It will, It's stronger than metal so serious dents. and it has a tested 4 star safety standard.

  • Very cool, sounds promising, but my major concern is safety...it looks very cool but very unsafe! Crash Tests???

  • thats like a helicopter on land! :D

  • Listen you morons... It's the only WISE and GREAT thing America has done in decades...(After 1987 Pontiac Pursuit Concept Car, and of course, they didn't produce it, because Stylish ideas doesn't match with Ordinary people, and the Government like to do things for the ORdinary people, and keep the people"Ordinary" '..you are their slaves ...no taste, no refinement) One day you will be proud of it...(but you never will realize by yourselves, but for the general opinion, you are only blind Crowd !

  • i want one... when im 18 XD

  • complete bullshit...but then again its american

  • if americans and thier ideolgy is BS ,. What keeps you here ? show me better?

  • @silverbird58 honda fcx clarity...japanese people will always be better and smarter than you'll ever be

  • @dpapaioannow there are even more..but you're a puny little boring american who thinks his better than anyone else, even if that "something" is a piece of waste stupid crap,at everything he does or says just because he is american...well you and your country can go BIG OFF yourselves ;)

  • X-prise automotive has the aptera still running at the front of the pack. What a clean choice this will be to have once they start production. This is thinking outside the box(SUV). It can free America from it's 60% imported oil and pollution !

The economy will get a big boost too with a car made in America running on American energy that you could even make at your home with solar PV panels. That's Billions for the economy !

    Thank you to aptera

  • why to buy this crap when for ten thousand dollars more I can get a tesla that will run 240 miles in a single charge and, is more good looking can than this crappy toy-drop-you-say-efficient bs............

  • The Aptera's a bit of a joke.

The prototype was something else, though. One of their original prototypes was an inline hybrid where a single-cylinder engine powered the generator, making a whopping 300MPG.

Unfortunately, the production version won't have that feature (maybe Big Oil threatened them?). Instead, you get a flat 100 mile range from an electric-only drivetrain. Instead of being able to cross the country on 10 gallons of gas, you won't even be able to drive from LA to Vegas.

  • @Threetails Interesting insight. Did you see previous versions of this car that got far better mileage? Makes me wonder. I notice that this is another private company making a GOOD electric car. hhhmmm that makes me wonder too. GM's version is horrible compared to the ev1 that came out 15 years ago.

  • i like murgatos MYT motor with a firring pulse every 12.5 deg. and ultra light #

  • interesting i luv it this car is great imagine me driving it pickn up chicks damm

  • is a tijuana model out yet?

  • id buy it if i was richer

  • @shit311 Rite!!!!

    :-((

  • it would be so sweet if I could show up to school with this xD

    oh I wish lol

  • I like it it is like a plane

  • How do you avoid potholes with the wheel in the middle in the back and it can't be driven in snow due to the placement of the third wheel always being in snow in the middle of your lane on the road...otherwise, fantastic car...

  • Didnt mention anything about if ya get crashed into though... doesnt look like you will survive a hit from cars nowdays seen as its so light...

  • nah u would probably fly a bit then float to safety :P

  • What do i do when first snow hits the road?

  • Wait, "the driving position is 'somewhat' comfortable"? How "somewhat" are we talking?

  • I want one!

  • The company mentioned an optional engine (gen set?) - it would be nice to see an application of an engine operating with a more efficient thermodynamic cycle (Rankine, Atkins, etc.) used, extending the range and making longer trips easy on occasion. Bio-diesel begins to make sense if we get the mileage up to this level!

  • That's a wonder all right.

  • The high tech car contrasts heavily with the primitive drink of carbonated sugar water. Anyone with the internet would know that stuff is horrible for your health. Just taste it without the carbonation, that's the REAL taste, like shit. The carbonation just conceals the overly sweet taste of it. Drink water, juice and tea. Let the dolts drink sugared water.

  • What does that have to do with anything?

  • hit the break and get hit by DR. Pepper lol..

  • If this car is classified as a motorcycle, does it mean that drivers will need to wear helmets?

  • your sitting "in" the skid lid ////////////////

  • I believe it is classified as a motorcycle because it lacks a full second axle. (or whatever. Three wheels.)

So it is doubtful it would require a helmet, given it meets safety standards.

  • we will all have these in the future

  • @StrongManHardMan hopefully very soon,my friend.

  • @StrongManHardMan: No, because it looks fuck-ugly.

  • @StrongManHardMan No more they close the company, wait the Focus Electric that is a real car.

  • You wouldn´t buy that ugly shit?

That´s what your mother said when you were born

  • would this be the future of the 1/8 mile car also?

  • i don't like the aptera... the Tesla Model S is the future...

  • you might be right ,but the aptera stands taller from the road and is more visible but i'd want extra tail light lenzes anyway

  • I think you are quite wrong about that. for all the good Tesla motors has been, I believe the model S to be a big mistake because it holds on to 2 of the 3 things wrong with cars, indifferent aerodynamics and massive weight. and I predict you will see that failure before it is ever produced in the form of much higher cost than promised because lugging around such an obese fat bastard is very expensive in batteries. it is much much better to go lean. model S is too conventional. mark my words

  • For all of you skeptics, realize that nearly all the super-exotic roadsters like ferrari, mcclaren, etc. employ chasis built almost entirely, if not entirely, from composite materials like carbon. There are stronger composites that I am not aware of, but Apteras claims of the strength advantages over steel are not unfounded. Please go look yourself. Why do you think 80ft sail boat masts are now being replaced by carbon composites? Its certainly not because they look better!

  • Was the same consideration for body strength built into the overhead solar array? My biggest fear (prius too) would be the earth hating, grocery-store sociopaths testing its impact resistence. I know there is bullet resistent glass, is it?

  • So everyone has to get thier bike lisence??

  • You should have one anyway.

  • you would definatly die if you got into a crash cause its small body and light design

  • The Formula-1 driver's cockpit is basically the driver's body area in size. In a serious crash, most of the vehicle separates from the cockpit. It is not at all uncommon for drivers to walk away from 150+ mph impacts and rollovers. BTW, stock cars are extremely light weight and survive crash impacts that no road going car could ever handle.

  • i guess how far it goes before it stops plays a part also ill bet it will flote

  • Having only 3 wheels classifying it as a motorbike is great for tax purposes, the old robin reliant had 3 wheels for that reason.

  • nissan smart will kill this car because its cheaper, has better technologies (such as iphone), looks more like a conventional car....

    aptera is just WEEEEEIIIIIRRRDDD looking.

  • sorry i meant NISSAN LEAF...lol

  • so was the voghtchance gull wing corsair and we had to make them also

  • We require at one laugage trunk of any form. If there is a way to tuck it up underneath this car it will be perfect.

  • this car the back look like old car

  • This is a great Car. But here in our country the price conversion is very expensive. I hope I can get one of these some day. It saves mother earth specially our ozone layer. You just need to plug it in. Instead of paying to a gasoline station, why don't add it up to your electric bill. I think it is a lot more cheaper.

  • google alphabet

  • for between 25 and 40 grand, these and the hybrid should be great cars.

  • people, people......if you take the larger car, SUV argument to it's limit, you'll find that we all need to buy 16-wheel cross-country big rigs.

grow up. smaller cars are REQUIRED for our national security and the environment.

it won't be too long where all else does not matter........we gotta stop spewing CO2

into the atmosphere........nothing trumps a nice, cool planet to live in.

  • i wonder why the solar panel on top is not used to re-charge the batteries for free.

this is going to be a success, the first truly revolutionary, successful electric car.

  • > i wonder why the solar panel on top is not used to re-charge the

    > batteries for free.

Because the amount of energy collected by the solar panels is small. Maybe 50 watts at the most. It would take a year to recharge the car, assuming perfect batteries that have no leakage current.

  • then they should expand the solar panels to the point where they can provide more recharge capability. they will soon have panels that bend light so that if the light is not direct the panel itself will direct the light to energy production.

  • > then they should expand the solar panels to the point where

    > they can provide more recharge capability.

There isn't that much energy in a square meter of sunlight - 1.3KW per square meter, and the BEST you can expect from an AMAZING solar cell is 30% efficiency making that effectively 0.40KW per square meter.

A *bicycle* will take 100 KW to run (if it's a good bike) at 20 MPH.

There isn't enough surface area - not even close.

  • that's why we should be spending the 800 billion spent killing people for oil in the middle east on solar research instead. up the efficiencies dramatically. this would be cheaper and we've have fewer suicide bombers.

eventually the entire surface of the car will be a solar collector. just a matter of time and research dollars.

  • > that's why we should be spending the 800 billion spent killing

    > people for oil in the middle east on solar research instead.

I voted for Ron Paul and sent him $2300 for his campaign. I know what Operation Ajax is, and know it's the primary source for the Islamic Revolution. I oppose Israel, and do not think we should support them. I was against the war in Iraq before it was fashionable, both wars in Iraq.

    So fucking blow me, asshole.

  • wow. what a frustrated person you are, criticizing me for something we agree on (opposition to the war)

somebody's got to tell engineers like you what is possible, you clearly don't have a clue yourself.

  • oh fuzzyscience:

have a beer. sit on the porch. listen to music. or do what's really necessary: get the lobotomy.

  • And this fucking shit:

    > eventually the entire surface of the car will be a solar collector.

    > just a matter of time and research dollars.

Few things piss me off more than liberal dumb asses telling engineers like me (electrical engineers like me) what is possible. You might as well be telling me that someday, cars will be storing energy with a rubber bands, and getting 1000 miles on a single winding.

You flunked physics, and you don't understand science, so shut up.

  • they now have solar panels in shingles. they now have solar panels that refract light and focus indirect light into the panels.

the problem with some engineers, like you fuzzyscience, is that your drreams are restricted by current knowledge. think man. there is more than what we know now. and we'll find it.

the fact is, there will be, in time, a car surface that is a 100% collector of solar energy.

  • > the problem with some engineers, like you fuzzyscience,

    > is that your drreams are restricted by current knowledge.

Take a science class, and do some experiments. You think that people can arbitrarily repeal the laws of physics? Gee, I'll just go out and build a solar panel that produces 1000 times the energy that hits it.

Better yet, YOU do it, since you think it's possible, being unencumbered by knowledge.

  • you must be one of the most clueless engineers in existence, if in fact you are an engineer.

in 1960 kennedy pledged to get us to the moon. it was futuristic and unthinkable.

but we put in the money, the research and the mission happened.

  • oh, and the next thing will be your major criticism of my being a dreamer. simplistic, uninformed, head in the clouds, stuff like that.

let me give you the names of a few dreamers who had their heads in the clouds fuzzyscience:

    da vinci, tesla, edison, galileo.

you need to bring your head back into the sunshine, and open your eyes.

  • > oh, and the next thing will be your major criticism of my

    > being a dreamer. simplistic, uninformed, head in the clouds,

    > stuff like that.

My criticism of you is you think a 100 watts is enough to power a vehicle.

There is about 160 watts of solar energy available in 1 square meter on average. You can get maybe 1/3rd of that into usable energy.

    YOU do the math.

I am an engineer. Part of science is knowing limitations of because of laws of nature. Perpetual motion machines for example.

  • no one ever said 100 watts is enough to power a vehicle. stop putting words in my mouth.

knowing your limitations and searching for a newer, better way are not mutually exclusive einstein.

why bring up perpetual motion? nothing said about that, and no one claiming that they work here.

again, pull your head out and take a breath of fresh air.

research, commitment, and scientific study got us to the moon in ten years.

we can improve solar efficiences, with appropriate effort.

  • > no one ever said 100 watts is enough to power a vehicle. stop putting

    > words in my mouth.

    You think I'm doing that?

What is the surface area of a vehicle that would be in direct sunlight? Using that value, calculate the total possible energy input from the sun by a vehicle covered in solar panels that have a 20% efficiency conversation ratio, and show your work.

    Sheesh.

  • unfortunately you cannot grasp the intent of my postings. just to enlighten you, i'll repeat myself one more time.

at this time we can power only so much with solar energy. in the future, should we decide to dedicate enough r and d to it, the efficiencies will rise, thus my comment that if we had spent the 600 billion on r and d instead of killing people in the middle east, we'd be farther along that path right now.

reason it out...i know you can do it...c'mon poindexter...try, try, try.

  • > unfortunately you cannot grasp the intent of my postings.

    > just to enlighten you, i'll repeat myself one more time.

    God, you're so stupid.

    > at this time we can power only so much with solar energy.

    > in the future, should we decide to dedicate enough r and d

    > to it, the efficiencies will rise,

At 100% efficiency, there isn't enough solar energy hitting a car to power a car unless it's 1 foot off the ground, has an acceleration rate of 0-60 in a minute, and has no shocks. I hate laymen.

  • at today's efficiencies there isn't enough dumbo. look to tomorrow, look to advancements in science.

yes, you do seem full of hate.

and you can keep it, i'm not interested.

  • you calling me stupid is ludicrous, considering your narrow views

you hate laymen? you're clergy as well as an engineer? did you create heaven?

did you design the pearly gates and their automatic opening and closing?

that might explain a bit: clergy full of hate.

  • wow. fuzzywzhe is pretty fuming. so sad.

but you did say that relic said that100 watts was enough. here is the quotation:

"My criticism of you is you think a 100 watts is enough to power a vehicle."

    BUSTED!

  • you need to read better ndyt.

this is not about powering the car 100%. this is about re-charging the batteries, as much as possible, while the car is in the sun. no one claimed it would completely power the car. and fuzzy never said what you just said, even though he may have been trying to do that.

the point is, if we maximize solar efficiencies on the car itself, the drain on the power grid will be reduced. that's all.

  • zilcher, if you are covering the car with cells to do that then what I said is still valid. If you are using a large pannel of cells mounted off the car then that is a different story. At max efficiency (100%) you cant get enough power out of cells on a car to charge the batt. even when it sits over time.

  • These are the people who are going to change the way we think about solar:

    eqsolaris . com/site/index.php

  • This shit has solar panels?! Damn I want one!

  • !test crash????????

  • lets see how many of you H3 owners queep thinking this is stupid when gas cost $14 dollars a gallon or the price of a leg of a 21 year old US Marine!

  • This car is actually supposed to be quite safe. The passenger sits in a "rollcage", a hard structure, while the other parts are easily crushed, much like racing cars :D

  • if you crash into an SUV at 50 mph in your toyota truck you're probably also dead.

  • OK to all the people that are putting this car down, you should be ashamed of your selfs. No one ever said that this vehicle was for every one. If you don't like it then don't worry about it. To tell you the truth I like the concept of the aptera. Light weight and aerodynamic = better economy. Gasoline is on it's way out. We are all just going to have to grow up and be adults about it. So all you gasoline fans out there just grow up! stop complaining about the inevitable.

  • Yes, but does it drift?

What is it's Nurburgring lap time?

  • if this is what you get for $40,000 id dred to think what you get for $25,000 ,be half of this i guess no solar panel , no dash board , my ideal futuristic electric car to temp me to spend that much would defo have to look like a ford capri , or a escort mk2 or even bring back the cortina :D but yeah doesnt really appeal to me if were going to have electric cars at least make them look like cars :)

  • If you buy this car, you are clearly an attention seeking douchebag.

For the cost of the lowest model, you can purchase a Toyota Yaris and have $12,000 left over to buy gasoline... that will get you nearly 200,000 miles at today's gas price (National average).

The car is not economical, not practical, and probably dangerous as fuck.

If there was a small community of like-minded individuals living in a city full of these, they'd be great.

I'd hate to meet a H2 at an intersection though.

  • dangerious i dunno ,they (GM) thought of every reason Not to buy a tucker in 1948 just so happens preston could show thier engineers the exit door every time. i think steve can here also

  • in this sociaty Is thier money left over ? I dont ever think this

  • The idea is you pay a bit extra to produce a lot less CO2 and other pollution.

  • this is awesome

  • I've heard that electric vehicles are being fitted with a noise generator to warn pedestrians of their presence. As Don Martin might have it, "Not-a-sound."

  • hahahaha I love it when petrol fans get angry about these innovations.. we are screwing up their penis extensions and saving energy at the same time lol!

"but it will never beat the sound of petrol". morons like this are a classic example. What exactly is the sound of petrol? I guess when you slosh it around, it makes some noise. That statement also denies the opinions that others might have. I like the sound of an electric motor. Gas engine noise in my opinion sounds a bit like someone farting.

  • that thing cant be safe one crash and its over

  • That's why I'd buy a gas car like an SUV because I choose my kids safety over something that could risk their lives just to save fuel and the environment.

  • yes indeed...your a great father

  • Your SUV is a safety risk to your kid's lungs and it's weight is a threat to all the people and cars outside it. Smaller is better all around. Stopping distance on an SUV is terrible compared to a small car like the Aptera. SUVs are only marginally safer to the occupants. To everyone else SUVs are a menace.

  • Well, my way is the SUV way. 4 wheel drive in snow. More cargo space so I wouldn't have to make multiple trips if I wanted to buy some heavy equipment. Also, it depends on the job you have, my father is a remodeler so he requires lots of cargo space. Not everyone can or want to transfer to a small car like this just because others want us to and say it's greener and what not because it just doesn't have the requirments some people need.

  • @rickylarch I highly agree. I loath suv's. They're so dangerous to everyone else besides the ones driving it, and their fat asses always get in the way. Trucks also make everyone else spend more money on gas cause they use it all.

  • @rickylarch Exactly. Let the people-movers be in the hands of responsible and trained drivers (buses) or better yet, off the road entirely (trains). Movement of goods should also have its own right of way, whether that be train tracks or separate freeway lanes. Of course, that will never happen, but maybe they could make super-light SUVs? :\

  • Actually, this vehicle is extremely safe, perhaps, safer than SUV's. Aptera's are made with composite materials, like airplanes, which are seven times stronger than steel. You can hit this vehicle with a sledge hammer and it will not leave a dent. Also, there are several airbags, and a formula 1, type, safety cage. As far as your kids safety, what about the kids in Iraq who are dying, because, we need thier oil to put in our SUV's?

  • you would die if you smashed that

  • looks like a futuristic concept to me.. but this can save fuel and help stop global warming.

just being friendly to the enviorment.

  • one word...STUPID

  • october in california

  • ehh, but it will never beat the sound of gasoline!

  • and i think we all know what it looks like...

  • thats a piece of crap... i dont have sound on my computer, does it say if they are actually going into production?

  • lol, wait a second, if you dont have sound on your computer, you couldn't hear the guy talking about it; how can you tell it's a piece of crap? lol

  • coming out in october 2009 in california

  • 1:11... that tells that this car saves gas but i dont think it saves life during accident

  • Lul, at 1:10, he should have said "can be lifted by one person"

  • or 2 girley men

  • um... idk if id get it cuz i dont wanna die. haha. but i think il stick with muscle cars like new camaro

  • special car .... the future is electric

  • WRONG..the future is helium and hydrogen

  • What did this last guy just write?

  • is aw this car yeste5rday ont he streets o shit

  • its pretty cool but crash 1 and ur dead

    XX

    ----

  • get in a wreck your guaranteed to be destroyed on the spot =] that lil bity carbon deposit bar aint gonna save u from 2 tons of momentum i wouldnt get it.

    (my opinion)

  • not if everyone is driving one they are trying to convert are wheels oh nooooooo we are in the future....:(

  • what a great little car

  • I would drive it

    TINTED OUT 95%

  • the percentage on tint pertains to the visibility. so 95% tint is basically clear. i think u meant "tinted out 5%"

  • oh shit thanks a lot man.

    edit:

    I would drive it

    TINTED OUT 0.5%

  • Not my favorite styling but... If it floats your boat, whatever. Wonder what kind of mileage the gas version of this would get.. I want to put some money on the 70mpg mark. Not that I would buy one, Ill stick to my normal looking cars thanks
