I had a mighty hankerin' to hear Sinatra's 3rd version of this (Nelson Riddle, Hammond B-3), couldn't find it... this wonderful performance tided me over.
Her music is intimate. Meant to be played in an intimate setting like a club. Open-air concert venues simply don't show her at her best. Guess that was her agent's idea.
great phrasing by Krall and luscious guitar playing by Bernstein. Echoes of Joe Pass with Ella Fitzgerald, although I don't know if anyone can scale that pinnacle. This is just superb.
Song at the end is Killer Joe

Maybe so, but the people there seemed to dig it. Newport is a great experience. Bring sunblock.

I like her style and the way she sings but not so keen on her tone. Admire singing and playing though. LOVE the guitarist's playing.

Who gives a damn about the "guitar player"?
Isn't jazz/Diana Krall a respite from self-indulgent, loud guitars?
eternalcolonel 4 years ago
What the hell are you talking about? I like Diana, but if any body's "self-indulgent", it's her. She's full of herself.
kurtsnyder 4 years ago
how do you know if she's self indulgent?

When the guitar player is Pete Bernstein, you should give a damn...
