Actually, he wasn't so bad before Hamona died.

He took Chezah but he actually freed her from the humans, and when she jumped off his ship, he smiled and wiped a tear from his eye cause it was beautiful...(so ya he did have a heart) xD

Even Darcia, I know alot of people don't like him cause of what he did, but put yourself in his shoes...He lost the person he loved most in his life...That kind of pain/emptiness is unbearable and can cause people to do really bad things.
