  • Truly painful!

  • you should be able to get that fixed.

  • To the Ebay mobile!

  • I shot a football game once and it was sleeting and about 35 degrees out... I was shooting an 80-200 which has no weather sealing whatsoever. The lens literally froze-,-

  • On the bright side, you can make a giant 200 oz coffee mug

  • not a bad way to spend ten thousand dollars.....

  • A $5000 paperweight

  • give me it,ill ppayyou50bucks

  • @JMM629 You do realize this is from a company that rents out lenses? I'm pretty sure they aren't using "daddys" money to fun their company.

  • make A lense cup of it

  • don't be afraid, you can recover it sending it to the support center

  • Expensive XD

  • Dang that sucks

  • WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO THAT JEWELL, YOU SON OF $·$·%?!?!?!?!

  • D:

  • Time to make a Lens Cup out of it.

  • Should of had insurance like I do. Saved me twice so far.

  • Can anyone understand what "James" says? Not I.

  • There goes $6000+ dollars :(

  • oh shit... all foggy & misty inside..

Should've bought PPA's warranty... They cover all your equipments with $500 deduction I think.

  • @viencafe they take your broken equipment so he wouldn't have been able to make a lens cup out of it. though maybe he didn't anyway.

  • SHIT man, I bleed for you.

  • it cost about $7500 new ;(

  • omg, thousands of pounds of glass. send it to canon with a grand and a please fix me note!

  • I bet your talking about £1600 for that little bit of kit, if I was you I would lock yourself in the bedroom and not come out until you can convince yourself that it was just a dream.

  • aren't they weather proof!

  • @TheLittleWorldofGaz yeah weatherproof not drop in waterproof...

  • How much did that lens cost you?

  • The same exact thing happened to me when I first started out with digital. I dropped my 18-55mm kit lens into a lake. Then again, it was just an 18-55mm kit lens. I was bummed for probably 5 whole seconds.

  • I admit to having lost equipment. due to accidents I'm sorry for you as well. Hope you got some killer images with it.

  • haha... YOu're a dumbass!!!! I would never let that happen to even one of my cheap lenses. How you let that happen to a ridiculously expensive lens I honestly don't even want to know.

  • They will usually dry up. The only problem is the electronics.

  • maybe he missunderstood the therm "weather sealed"

  • you poor bugger...that must have hurt....including your wallet

  • ohhh man that's got to suck.

  • dude thats sucks!

  • canon have fix prices for repairs i had my 100-400 done great job as well

  • soo sad :'(

  • you would think; I'm going to spend big money on a really nice lens!. . . . .Wait its not even water proof?

  • @TMAK131 ummm... the cost of lenses is kind of in the glass they use.

  • @Booyaaa100 Wow never knew that! i still think it would be nice if they took precautions to sealing the body up better.

  • Nice megaphone

  • You assume such a pricey lens would be completely sealed...

  • @Athiril :

Its a lens. A precision instrument. Should be used as such.

  • @TechCrazy Lenses of that price range are supposed to be sealed.

  • @Athiril :

Sealed against rain and snow and moisture. But not if you drop it in the pool.

  • @Athiril : Once again, sealed and water proof are two different things.

  • Fucking asshole.

  • How about using it as a megaphone?

  • man, sorry that happened to you. That is (was) one amazing lens!

  • Thats a good way to flush 10 grand down the toilet.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHA GUTTED YOU FUCKING IDIOT.

  • so so so sad ;(((

  • I feel bad for you.

  • Stick it in a bag of rice!

  • That is why I got an insurance policy for my equipment. Steal if from my car, I get a new camera and lens.

  • @daveski99x Where is your car? =P

  • this = Definition of a idiot

Why would you do that to a Canon EF 600mm lens thats probally worth thousands of pounds seriously??

  • @MrMikeJkay He clearly didnt do it on purpose, well done you

  • I would actually cry. There goes like 4 months of straight paycheques.

  • this is why Nikon have an o-ring around the lens connection.

  • Painful to watch.

  • one thing you can do is to put it inside a bag of rice. Rice absorbs moisture.

  • ok that is a man that love his lents

  • Never go swimming without an underwater housing ;)

  • I feel it man, same thing happened to me with a 300 2.8 and no insurance. It sits in my office now to remind never again.

  • what a pity...

  • Oh you poor bastard!!!! I think that event spoiled you day!

  • looks like a real FUCK ME moment

  • :o

  • FUCK YEA!!!

  • So sad that after watching a 3-part documentary of how a Canon lens is made, I saw this 3-part video of how a Canon lens was destroyed... :'(

  • AH!.. awwww....

  • I'm laughing all the times I see this video

  • giz modo. com/5804720/broken-lens-horror-stories

Pictures of the lens being retrieved

  • I hope you had it insured...!

  • That's a $12,000 lens...jeez...

  • Y U DO DIS?!

  • !

    : (

  • is that the one that took a swim in the croc infested lake?

  • hope they had insurance

  • Lot's silica gel in a dry box.

  • u fixed it realy saftey

  • Comment removed

  • Put it in dry-box for a week but its too late now. Feel sorry for him.

  • if the glass is still intact you should get it repaired...will the cheapest solution

  • Comment removed

  • It's on a chopping board and that is a baaaaad sign...

  • My wife suck everything, can suck lens dry fo you!

  • There are companies that do vacuum cleaning of electronics. You can hire one of those to suck all the water and moist out of the lens. Probably at 1/10 of the price of a new lens.

  • Put it in a oven (NOT microwave) for 12 hours at 50 degrees Celsius. And DONT mount it before it's completely dry. If you can handle a screw driver loosen (Don't unscrew) some of the smal screw to let it breath. Don't blow air on the lens before it's completely dry or you end up with stock dirt on the inside because of the air fast drying the droplets leaven residue.

  • Comment removed

  • I feel really, really bad for you. That is one expensive lens!

  • makes me want to throw up

  • I'd kill some random person if I were you HAHAHAHA! Naaah ;-) So sorry for your loss. Even I'M SAD ffs!

  • Ouch! Hope it wasnt a rental!

  • Sell it on ebay ;)

  • A big mistake people make is heating up the wet lens to dry it.

This results in condensation which is not good for lenses :P

  • what destroyed your lens?

  • Не гони сделай из него кружку!

  • Home owner or renters insurance should cover it.

  • @janidhaval It's like the size of a house anyhow, it should have a mortgage!

  • THERMOS

  • Make a themos from it!

  • And what we learn from it ?....... Give children no expensive equipment to play!

  • It's stupid that Canon can make something this big and this expensive NOT weather sealed.

  • @hcarvalhoalves

It IS weather sealed, but surely not for diving, man! You can shoot during rain, but surely not go diving with it. At the same manner you can claim Mercedes for asking too much money for their cars: no problem during rain, but you can't drive with them on the floor of the ocean. Incredible, isnt it?

  • @Vafankuppen Well, too bad it got submerged. Anyway, I meant sealed, not just weather resistant. Considering it's not a zoom, it's feasible to build it properly sealed (as long as the lens is mounted and the camera is also sealed, of course). There's no reason not to in a piece of equipment worth $ 8k.

  • @hcarvalhoalves

I'm not an engineer, but I'm pretty sure that it is NOT as easy as you think. You have mechanical links from outer side to inner side (e.g., zoom ring, focus ring), you have slide switches, which are not that easy to seal. Same problems for watches: they are all sealed, but it is stated clear in the manual, that you must not use the buttons under water. It is much easier to use standard seal bags for diving. At the end, no one wants to use such lens under water; no added value..

  • well, as it is just fucked up... try soaking it into ethyl alcohol

  • "LOLOLOL" — you must be stacked if you can laugh at that...

Really, but I thought the L lenses were weatherproof...?

  • @youR3tard weather proof != waterproof, lol.

  • @cheezecakeV2

    but

    watch?v=njqTFlMiGLQ

  • @youR3tard true, but methinks the result would've been different if he submerged the lens instead of pouring water onto it and letting it instantly drain away.

  • what is the serial number of the lens? I buy used canon lenses. Just incase I come across this one someday :-)

  • They should make these lenses water tight

  • Make it into a coffee mug =]

  • It's WEATHER sealed not WATER sealed :P

  • it's only a $10,000 lens, no need to be careful with it.....

  • Use this lens when you desire a soft focus effect.

  • I hope it was insured!

  • The guy laughing is a real bastard :P

  • Broken a 9 grand lens got you 300k views. Not bad. Lol.

  • Aw c'mon just send it to Canon to fix. you could afford the $9K to buy it so you can afford to send er back. And how the heck did you drop it in water???? My guess you were on a bridge and leaned over the edge to get a shot, the lens slipped from your hand, and being so damn heavy, pulled you along with it over the edge and into the water below. Imagine that vid being posted on youtube.

  • I can fix that...

  • I see potential for a big-ass coffee mug.

  • @GeneralCupcakes

It'd hold coffee enough for 3 days... dayum

  • @GeneralCupcakes kai from digitalrevTV did that once

  • @GeneralCupcakes

A day late and a dollar short, just need to dissasemble it and clean it. usually withing a couple of hours wont kill it.

and yes it takes a lot of time and documenting everything so you can reassemble it.

  • send it to blend tech and see if it can blend.

  • Sell it on ebay

  • Only an idiot would drop a lens like that in the water. No sympathy.

  • Make It Into A Giant Bottle Or Cup And Sell It On E-Bay

  • The before (what happened)? and after, did it ever work again? would be much more interesting. How about a little narration?

  • should of put it in a warm cupboard with silica pads

  • make a fish tank out of it.

  • KAMIKAZEEEEEEEEE

  • Reminds me of the Risky Business line, "Who's the U-boat captain?"

  • Would make a good beer mug now

  • @recidivideo pretty big mug :) beats my 24-70 hands down

  • did it died?

  • welded on top of your car as a cannon, u can shoot missiles , get it shoot? lol :d

  • Now you have a 8 grand coffee cup, enjoy XD

  • No weatherproofing no care. lol.

  • Was it insured?

  • Comment removed

  • I noticed that the 600 lens was set on the chopping block. What a coincidence.

  • stick it in a bucket of rice. It will act like a moisture wick

  • I thought it has water sealant! Canon... HAHAHAH

  • @citizenofvirginity Yeah, I bet you can keep a Nikon underwater for some photographs and it won't break, either.

  • @SavageHardstyle Yupp! SHould buy Nikon, man! =P

  • @citizenofvirginity I was being sarcastic... If you stick a Nikon underwater for a length of time, it's going to break. Period.

  • Comment removed

  • @citizenofvirginity there is a difference between waterproof and water resistant....

  • poor guy... :)

  • send it to canon service!

  • Yikes! Sorry for your loss. Did you ever manage to get it serviced or were all the components mangled?

  • Time to rinse it in fresh water (if it fell in salted) then bury it in rice until you bring it to Canon.

  • my condolences...

  • i feel ur pain

  • R.I.P.

  • Why don't you just send it in for repairs? I shoot Nikon and don't appreciate the comment below, but hey, to each his own. I'm a photographer, so any camera can make good images. It's not the brand, it's the person using it. I recommend that you have insurance, if you don't, get it. I always insure my equipment so sadness like this doesn't happen to me. I'll just get a new one if it does... Sorry for your loss...

  • weather sealing my ass !! haha ..

  • make it a beer bottle

  • Fuck all you Nikon bastards!

  • @Thuglife1000 Shut your Manpleaser dumbass. And stop borrowing our 14-24mm :P

  • Comment removed

  • @Vamp1963 What you just sense made no sense. Get a a better camera, you dumb Nikonner! :P

  • @Thuglife1000 Read your text again and see who makes sense...

  • @Vamp1963 That's the point man... You killed it.

  • @Vamp1963 FYI, that was supposed to be a Chinese accent.

  • Any photographer with equipment like that would have insurance - I HOPE!

  • @TomHallPhotography This is, unless it's from a basement flood, it probably won't be covered, since they'll say it was negligence :-(
