It is a padded stick, it doesn't hurt, it is part of testing a dogs temperament, if the dog lets go of the bite when threatened, is that the dog you want protecting you?

it is part of the routine for the helper to hit the dog.
2 stick hits in schutzhund 1 and 2, 4 in schH 3 - although I think some sticks hits on this video are to keep the dog's paws off the helper.

It´s not schutzhund... We just made this presentation with a guard dog in order to have more breeders in Brazil that liked working proofs, to train their dobes... But in Brazil it was in vain...

Of all the shutzhund events I've seen it was never standard practice for the helper to actually hit the dog. Otherwise this is a pretty good video.
