i think this video is brilliant. Can anyone explain this?

Notice the first time she drops the newspaper its left there. The next time she comes around the paper is gone and the second Kylie drops the paper in the same location. The question is, how does the newspaper get transferred from the 2nd Kylie to the 1st?

My only guess is that the 2nd Kylie footage is in the foreground, blocking the already dropped newspaper. When she picks it up, the foreground and background are switched. yes/no?

the package thing is dropped by the 1st kylie, then the 1st kylie picks it up when she completes the cycle, the original package has gone (maybe someone else took it) its only ever picked up 1 time, the 1st kylie picks up the 2nd kylie dropping it, it happend several times in the video but its just a repeat - its not actually happening differently. it never gets transferred between kylies, apart from that 1 time from 2nd to 1st.. i think i have confused myself :/ lol oh well.....

I think towards the end they may have been manipulating her in the frame, moving some versions of her closer and father away digitally because they were four filling the screen - it got crowded. I think that might have been in the plan for the shoot, though. When there's 4 on screen, choreograph it such that you give yourself a bit of freedom with that.

Mostly it's about her hitting her marks, planning the 2nd take based on where she was on the first. 3rd take on where she was on 1st and 2nd.

What I don't understand is that theres no way for Kylie to know how to keep up with the other kylies and there are places in which she stops at the pole that the first kylie swings around so that she can walk under her arm. How would kylie know how to pace herself?

Kylie is a dancer--it's just like choreography.

But there are points in the video in which she runs across the street which would in turn through off the choreography to some extent. There is a moment when she goes out of frame (when there are 3) and therefore the problem could be fixed but when there are 2 she doesn't and lands it perfectly after running across the street...eh maybe it is choreography

The camera is turning by itself, so all Kylie needs to do is to follow the camera. So by looking at the camera she knows more or less where she is supposed to be (I think that's why she is running in some parts, to keep up with the camera)

I understand the video's logic and all about motion control and all... At the end you have 5 Kylies, OK, but you can see them transparent. How can you solve this issue? Everyone in the video is repeated, but they are not transparent! HOW?

You go in frame by frame and erase the extra backgrounds. It can probably be done a little quicker than this sounds by just kinda making sloppy/square-like mattes around kylie.

In Britney's Lucky music video they used green screen. How do you solve this without green screen not just for Kylie but everyone in the video? :D

@egyptiansushi They made precise mattes around Kylie and around all fifty extras, frame by frame.

It's the only way to make this video without green screen. It's a time consuming task, but it's not something new in the visual effects field.

If you look on wikipedia, the time required for the visual effects of this video was 15 days.

Apart from this, it's awesome!

actually, it wasnt one take... there are times when she is running under the ladder or going around the pole or something that they make an edit, so it isnt all 1 looong take, there are 2 cut-off points they can stick other edits together during this video
