  • When this was shot, there was a lot of things going on with umpires. I appreciate someone who takes control, earns respect, stands his ground, remains calm under pressure, and is never noticed. Umps have always been corkers. You almost have to be one to be one in the first place. When this was shot, they were po'd because they were paid bupkis. They had to buy their own uni's. Now you have young umps that grew up watching "REAL PEOPLE." We're doomed.

  • union jackasses who network and corrupt everything they cant fire the umps because of the union its like gm leave a ham sandwhich in a vehicle which you didnt work on properly and YOU GET A RAISE! NOW ITS 85 DOLLARS AN HOUR

  • i could listen to Whitey talk baseball all day, very smart guy.

  • It was so great to hear Whitey get into the Hall of Fame. He was such an innovator on offense, double-switches and so much more. I was so blessed to grow up in the "whitey ball" era in St. Louis. He got pitchers to use the slide step to counteract the steals and speed of the Redbird baserunners. A genius of a manager and LONG overdue. Congrats.

  • @stl49erfan Whitey was also great in Kansas City...took over an awful team and would have won the world series if the Yankees were not so damned good from 1976 - 1978. I thought those Royals teams were as good as 82' Cards team that won the series. John Tudor Said Whitey was the best Manager he ever played for.

What a trade in 1982 Gary Templeton for Ozzie Smith. That trade made the Cardinals a powerhouse in 1980's. Many of us here in Massachusetts feel that Whitey IS the best manager ever.
