My first reaction to the new 2010 Dalek design in Doctor Who

To be honest we'd seen too much of the Dalek's by the time their designs changed for me to give a shit AT ALL. Personally because I'm so sick of them I actually thought it was a nice fresh feeling to see something done differently with them, while the colours may be a bit "Daleks do not care about colours" the daleks have had different colours before, so frankly i couldn't care less

I didnt have a problem with the new daleks. I never really understood the fuss. This is, of course, all refering to their armor, not what they themselves actually look like. As for the different colors, it is my understanding that they have different colors, just as they have different classes as mentioned in "Victory of the Daleks": Scientist, Strategist, Drone, Eternal, and the Supreme. And maybe being "pure-blooded" Dalek has its perks. The suit itself is NOT the Dalek-rather an extension...

this was my reaction to the new daleks as well. my ideas for plots and storylines for the entire new doctor who series are way better than russel t davies and steven moffats. first off i would raise the bar and not have doctor who be a childrens drama, it is time the show mutured and be a borderline serious sci fi adult action/adventure/mystery drama something in the vein of the new sherlock series. this would not only gain higher ratings for the show but would also expand its audience.

@thegreattotemaster I agree with you. On the new Dalek design and the ending of Last of the Time Lords. The new Dalek design is very colorful and frankly they don't seem as scary as they used to. The ending of the Last of the Time Lords was just stupid. (no offense to people who liked it) Because everyone thought "Doctor" he suddenly became young again? It doesn't make any sense. Although I will admit to shouting "DOCTOR!!!" while I was watching the episode.

Timeline of the Doctor Who revival series:

2005 - Serious and interesting with believable plots; a great reboot.

2006 - Great actor change, show quality even better than 2005.

2007 - Lots of good, original episodes, it just keeps getting better.

2008 - Slightly annoying companion, certain episodes are childish and some plots are implausible and ridiculous.

2010 - Fucked up Daleks, and about half of the episodes have been an insult to 2005, 2006, 2007, and even 2008. A kids show now.

I'm afraid I have to disaggree with you on your statement that Doctor Who has become "just a kids' show". I personally see very little difference in that aspect between the 2010 series and the others listed.

It's a series for everyone.

@thegreattotemaster I guess I don't really mean kids show per se, but it just seems that some of the plots for the recent episodes are over the top, or implausible, or just simply ridiculous. An example would be in the finale of Series 3, the Doctor returned to normal through some sort of prayer. But this is just me dwelling on my thoughts, I'm sure everyone thinks differently. I'll shut my mouth now.

Generally, I feel all these series are just about equal in terms of quality. However, I liked series 2 (2007) and 4 (2008) the best, although it's a VERY close thing.

I suggest rewatching the episode a couple of times. It DOES grow on you eventually.

Just remember that everyone, even a writer on as high a standard as Mr. Moffatt has previously proven himself to be, will inevitably make some mistakes at some point. That's just how it works.

Some fan boys wont accept change. Sure I am not 60 years old to have fond childhood memories of the first Doctor Who Dalek serials but I have watched nearly every Doctor Who with the Daleks in it except for the ones that are missing(and they are god dammit). The first Doctor Who serials I ever seen had the 4th doctor and introduced Davros. They changed the Daleks ancestors names from Dals to Kaleds. And still I am satisfied.

I love the new design! the other design was chunky and bland! these designs are smoother, and colourful which in my opinion gives them more of a dealk feel, mainly becasue of the movies. I DONT SEE WHY PEOPLE HATE THE NEW DESIGN SO MUCH! Its much more of an improvement.
