  • 2:05 blatantly just a whip cause he knew what mifune was gunna do. 2:57 his leg starts moving as it would in okuri ashi harai but mifune isn't sweeping it??? Haha. All look amazing though.

  • 2:53 a bit too cooperative ;p

  • @4c00h Its a counter, uke tries to sweep Mifunes foot and Mifune does tsubame gaeshi

  • I dunno, no disrespect to anyone, but it seems that the students were faking the sweeps. like in 1:04, just before Mifune sweeps the student, the student's opposite leg (opposite from the sweeped foot) moves.

  • @TheUgly88 Even if they were trying to make the throws prettier, they still would have hit the mat.

  • @WhtMike2006 Yes , Judo is very powerful for those who know how to use it.

  • the student realized the technique and try to dodge but Mifune was faster

  • @colorosado no, the student was being cooperative.

  • saltyseaweed, i don't agree with you. Aikido has practical solutions aswell as any other martial art. It is not a dance, it is a martial art with technique and strategy although training method differs from many other arts. Everywhere people keep dissing the art which is a shame. But as an aikidoka, being the underdog in discussions suits me fine. As for the video, very nice ashiwaza technique, have to try few of these myself.

  • @batcat82 i agree with you, people are ignorant with the comments about Aikido, same thing like what they say about Kung Fu. they don't know what they are about, scenarios those arts fit into, or their origins. All those retarded MMA obsessed fans doesn't think outside of the ring.

  • This is real Jyudo. Not the sporty comparison of strength that is modern 'Judo'... Shame. I hope other martial arts revert to their martial aspects and leave the sport behind :)

  • Agreed

  • @beardydave Judo has become a form of "wrestling with jackets" as Mifune said himself, which I regret as well. At our dojo, we don't learn the throws and locks that are forbidden in competition. I see that as a restraint on learning all aspects of judo.

  • I woulnd know why you would gret that? people dont walk around naked, and what is passing for martial arts its nothing more than bad judo done by muscle bound practioners-really kano must be rolling over in his grave. seeing how the Brazilians have bastardize his system.

  • That doesn't make sense. What BJJ does is mostly Ne Waza, which Kano really never cared much about and is not really part of modern judo. BJJ practitioners for the most part don't touch Nage waza. How are Brazilians bastardizing Kano's system?

  • Simply every judo & jujutsu system has newaza in its training. Kano taught this to his students who in turn taught it to everyone. in kano books mind over muscle he explains that newaza is a principal of all jujutsu systems

  • Yes, but I don't see why Kano would be upset over a group of people who are not even claiming to do Judo.

Thre are lots of recent Judo developments that Kano would have disliked, such as excessive grip fighting or poor scoring system. I don't see what BJJ has to do with any of these.

  • Kano was unhappy with the progression of judo to begin with. way to much emphasis on strength and not enough on technique. the BJJ claim something even worse. they claim jujutsu: the art of sublte fighting with and without weapons. jujutsu is not a sport, it's combat and bjj isnt. ground fighting will get you killed in combat. you can never afford to be on your back in a real fight.

  • Your first sentence doesn't make sense. Kano created Judo. Why would he be unhappy with judo to begin with?

Lot of Ne Waza techniques used by BJJ came from classic jujutsu. So you are wrong that jujutsu never fought on their back. We know they did because they have techniques for that situation.

In any case, Kano wouldn't be upset about it because he left jujutsu to create judo. Certainly BJJ isn't "basterdizing" judo.

  • U might wanna re-read it then, the techniques (newaza) what school did the come from? bjj has never said in fact they have stolen from judo not jujutsu, the techniques from newaza are simply that but when fighting in any medium there were a set of fighting skills, suiijutsu was for fighting in water? your point gets lost because no bjj can name the so called jujutsu school were there techniques were taken from.

  • You are confusing. You seem upset because BJJ folks took some judo techniques. But judo hardly can be upset about that, since it took most of its techniques from existing jujutsu schools as well. BJJ takes any grappling techniques that works from other disciplines, including modern wrestling. It's never been shy about admitting that.

  • "Up set"? i think not, what I was doing was showing the logical progression of tainted technique: first Kano-san actually studied the ma he took techniques from. he obtain menkyo in several. however, BJJ call's it's self a jujutsu system, which is incorrect. it's entire emphasis is on ground fighting which is not practical outside the ring. the Gracies packaged the mess as BJJ and sold this to the world. and guys and gals seem to be eating it up?

  • Well, first off, jujutsu did have ground techniques. I don't know why you seem to argue this point--it's not really controversial. Second, even if BJJ was selling "impractical" art, assuming it's true, why would anybody, including Kano, care?

Of course, if you really want to be realistic, no empty hand martial art is really practical outside the ring. So that talking point is really kind of silly.

  • WTF? all Martial art is practical outside the ring, because they dont begin in the ring? karate is practical, judo is practical kenpo is practical jujutsu is practical because as homosapiens we tend to stand on 2legs, wow even aikido/aikijutsu are practical in a real fight. even done by someone who holds more than a green belt. i've heard it all now, lmao

  • You sound completely ignorant. aikido is practical? LOL. I've done talking with you. I can't believe I wasted all this time.

  • by the way kano left jujutsu because the emphasis was too much on combat, and he wanted to create a school of self defence and phyiscal fitness. lol , i.e. he wanted to create a budo art of sport. lol

  • Well, what distinguishes judo from jujutsu is emphasis on kuzushi and randori in addition to some spiritual aspects. The distinction is somewhat subtle and not really technique-based (although Kano did modify some techniques to be more randori friendly).

  • @Poelewoele

one of the reasons i quit judo and went to bjj

  • These dudes are straight trippin'

  • Ashi guruma, O guruma, Hiza guruma, Sasae that is hand throws
