I think the entire cast acts superbly. Regardless of the show's "fan-made" status, this is a fun and engaging episode. I'd go so far to say that it is better than some of the stuff the TOS produced (*cough* Spock's Brain).
I think the acting is actually pretty good. For amateurs and enthusiasts, this group are REALLY good, and the captain does a fine job. Moreover, the way this is scripted and shot brings out the best in the actors and papers over their flaws. It's fantastic!
Also, New Voyages/Phase 2 do a very good job and make enjoyable and truky Trekkie stuff, and James Cawley does a fun Shatner impression.
My goodness the battle beginning at 1:25 is good! Perfectly paced editing and camera angles! It stands up magnificently with all of the big studio Star Trek battle sequences so far! Except Star Trek 2009. That movie sucked!
Comparing the CG styles is apples and oranges. Exeter obviously goes for the feel of the original broadcasts, while P2 goes for the remastered feel. You can't compare the two.
Really liking the way this episode depicts the vintage look and feel of TOS. Great directing, editing, and camera work. And the EFX don't look overdone with perfected CGI like P2 Perfect.
Sure the captains acting is subpar, but much better than the captain on P2. In fact the entire casts acting is better than whats on P2. The little quips and jokes are also effective.
Nice seeing the Tholians and the Gorn-like design of the tressaurians.

wait a second the exeter takes the pounding from 3 tressaurian ships then all of a sudden the tholians come and one shot a tressaurian warship??? Cool battle and I like the fact that TOS consoles don't blow in your face. LOL
hey just because it's old doesn't mean it's bad. I'd rather use old tech guaranteeing that it doesn't blow in my face then some new fancy computer console with a pack of TNT underneath it ready to go off in my face any second.
if they take away star trek TNG and replace it with star trek general hospital It could totally be a soap opera. Next weeks episode who is the father of trois illegitimate child, could it be worf or riker, stay tuned to find out. :)
Tha Tholians probably have a different kind of weapon much like the Romulan plasma weapon. A single shot could destroy a ship, vaporize or disintergrate it or whatever.
The Tressaurian ships are really neat. They look as if the are a kitbash(random parts from different models reassembled)instead of a CGI rendering. The Tholian ships however look totally CGI. Kudos to Dennis Baily. Totally awesome!!
You are right, the Tressaurian ships look vaguely Early Klingon vessels, perhapse they stole a Klingon ship at some point in history and modified its desighn.
...Love the traditional "Pause-Disenegration' sequence. That's 'old school buh-bye!'...

Too much negativity amongst the comments here.

Are the red shirts so disposable that they don't even report when one has been killed?
scoob2007 2 years ago 2
Good show, good story, costumes, special effects, sets... the only thing I really don't like is the captain. He's a dick, plain and simple.
khaosmike666 2 years ago
aren't all captains? LOL
mec441 2 years ago 2
apparently they don't even notice when a red shirt is dead. LOL

lol yeah, I guess the TOS era actually used fuses...a technology which seems to have been abandoned in the TNG era. XD

LMAO!! Well said - I agree 100%.
(And we all know that the TOS era is better than TNG and its touchscreens and soap operas.) ;)
