Their Egyptian roots reflect a legendary connection. The "Lebor Gabála Érenn" said the Gaels descend from Goídel Glas, son of Scota, daughter of Pharaoh, whose descendant founded Brigantia in Iberia & built a tower from which his son saw Ireland. While a legend, DNA studies show Gaelic surnamed men in West Ireland are closely related to NW Spain. My late mentor (who played uilleann & Balkan pipes, etc. & spoke Gaelic, Turkish, Armenian & more) always insisted there was an "Oriental chord."
@carollizc True, Let's also remember some of the Spanish Armada landed or crashed in Ireland after their battle with the English navy. Many Irish in the 17th cen. immigrated to Spain. It's likely the traffic has been two way for longer than we can guess.
I'm American of Irish descent, yet this song seems utterly foreign. It's terrible to be so thoroughly deracinated, that one doesn't recognize the language of one's ancestors. I'm thankful that some people are working to keep the Irish language alive.
@anotherjoe50 I'm Irish and can speak only a little bit, don't feel at all deracinated by this....Just be proud of your heritage...The woman singing is half Irish half Egyptian which makes her singing and that of her family such a special thing...you can hear in both sisters voices a touch of their Egyptian heritage...I LOVE the Elsafty sisters...
She's sitting on the very stool where I sat when I was in Westport! Brings back some memories for sure. :)

@celt1745 It's not impossible that the Irish Gaels might have Iberian roots - the Iberian peninsula was also a Celtic homeland, and is still.
