Mario Lanza recorded many woderful songs and arias in his brief life but I think his singng from "The Student Prince" just about surpasses all else although he himself never watched this film for fairly obvious reasons I suppose. I also think Edmund Purdom played a wonderful part, his lip-synching I thought was perfect and he said many times that was just a great honour to lip synch to such a great voice. Viva Mario, your millions of fans still adore you as a singer and a smashing person.
Wasn't he wonderful. Singing his heart out, and they only used his voice for the movie version. How jarring, to hear HIS inimitable voice visually coming out of another actor who in no way resembled him. Thanks for uploading this.
@URLy2Rise Hear HEAR..WHAT a voice...What a 'song'....HAD ML NOT been beguiled by the Hollywood 'machine' & 'destroyed' @ 38yoa (as was Elvis P. VERY similarly @ 42yoa!) then 'we' would have had SO much more from him. The POWER & PERFECT PITCH of that voice! The inspiration for many a future great tenor, too. Wonderful! [Even if he WAS a 'loose cannon'!]
Gaudeamus Igitur, juvenes dum sumus.........my old school song! STILL makes me feel vPROUD after ALL these years!
Mario had a very close friend who was also a great singer. His name was Al Martino.

@biggerthanacadillac Aah, gaudeamus. Far from wishing i was still young, it's good to be young. If only we
could be so with the wisdom and experience that only comes with age. Love seemed so intense then. But
amor profundum est.
