Do you guys even realize that they're hitting balls of a compression/core you'll never get to hit with bats you'll never be able to buy??? Sure they're big and strong and will hit balls harder and farther than most people, but the distance your'e seeing now is in part due to the superhard balls and "personalized" bats they use.

I'm saying that in terms of generating power, baseball swings ARE easier because they tend to be more compact with less "violence" if you will (again, there are some violent swings in baseball like Aramis Ramirez, Vlad Guerrero, but for the most part, the swings are a lot shorter)

The thing about the 12 inch is YOU have to generate all the power...there is no energy stored in the ball because it's traveling so slow. In baseball, even with an 80 mph pitch (most sliders), all you have to do is just put the bat on the ball and it's going far..

Big guys dominate those softball leagues. They could be crippled and still hit it 400 feet. The distance is impressive but let's face it, blue dot softballs with space age alloy bats take a lot of the "wow factor" out of prodigious blasts hit by soft-ballers. Jeff Wallace hit the snot out of those balls and they were quite impressive. I guarantee you when he'd make contact with a baseball in our league it would go for quite a spell...but those dingers would be fewer and further between.

I can assure you softballs can be hit a long, long way. If you don't believe it come to the 40th Smoky Mountain Softball Classic in Maryville, TN next weekend and watch 'em sail over your head. I sat 375 feet away from the plate last year in left field and I can't count the number that cleared my chair with no worries of getting my head bonked!
