Since Luffy's the captain and what he says goes, Usopp left the crew and told Luffy he'd fight him for the boat. Luffy whooped his ass and gave him the boat anyway.

In the fishman island arc in the manga Zoro grins and says in reference to luffy knocking out 50 thousand men, "If he couldn't do at least that much then we would have to find a new captain". I love that about Zoro and that's why he deserves to be recognized as one of the supernovas.

OH! and when u watch it, PLEASE PLEASE watch the japanese version.soundtracks better... as well as the voice actors

Agreed, this is one of the epic punch scenes which should NEVER have Falcon Punch used as the audio... Fact is, most people were siding with Usopp for most of the fight, if not supporting the neutral ground where everyone gets along.

The crew (except Ussop ) is coming to terms with the fact that they need a new Ship, as he Going Merry is falling apart. Ussop doesn't want to get a new boat as it was a gift and practically one of the crew members. So ultimately, Luffy and Ussop have a fight to determine who would be captain, along with whether or not the get a new ship. naturally Luffy won (though Ussop put up a pretty good fight), and Ussop leaves the strawhat crew (temporarily)
