Tuomas Holopainen: We absolutely wanted to have something different. We didn't build a profile of what the new singer should sound like, what she should look like. The only thing we knew for sure was we did not want another classically trained operatic singer in the band. We thought it was time to move on and not find a copycat. I personally think we hit the jackpot with Anette because her voice is really strong, but she can also do some wonderful interpretations.

Wow, I never got into the Tarja vs Annete thing but she shows her true colors here and they suck. Without studio modulation she sux and can't hit the highs live, especially that high "C."
her voice is fantastic...what i think is really impressive is that she doesn't sing the chorus in head voice, she just belts it and i think it makes them sound more metal. obviously you can't expect her versions of old songs to sound the same as the originals, but surely you'd be even more disappointed if you went to a nightwish gig and they didn't play any old stuff?
I saw their gig yesterday, and man it was so fantastic! And I've seen Nightwish live with Tarja, and now with Anette and Anette is at least as good as Tarja, maybe even better. I loved it. And Ever Dream was maybe the best song of the night!

If your friends didnt like tarja's voice then they didnt like nightwish, so they can go off and listen to lacuna coil, christina would suit them. Tarja has excellent voice, unique in a way that either you love it or not. Anette's voice is just not that. Everyone could listen to her, non metalheads even (like LC) and if you think thats a good thing i'd advise you to think it over
I saw them play live in Worcester MA and I thought that live she was excellent. This video does not do her any justice at all. My friends and I are die hard nightwish fans and hearing her play this song live brought tears to my eyes. It was that well done. The whole concert was so good that my arms were sore for two weeks from all the fist pumping! so all you nay sayers need to realize Tarja although very talented was a bitch and fucked the band so they kicked her out end of story.
I read that some people were leaving concerts for not being able to listen to her anymore, cause she screams so much. And other ones wrote that she is getting better. I've seen newer videos, she still strains with these high notes, but at least she let go that yodeling part in Wishmaster. Still don't like the way she does it with the old songs. You don't need to be opera to hit high notes right, listen to Sharon from Within Temptation. She hits them so easily.

Well then listen to newer stuff and touring live, then you can make a solid statement about Sharon's singing. She is all about high. Anette can hit some "highs", but with very huge efforts, and sometimes it all reminds of screaming. That is why people were leaving NW concerts. That was all about my point.

She sounds too punk/popish. I am from Southern California and was a fan of Tara's VOICE with the music. You need 2 elements to make a good sound. Music, and voice. Both together make the band. Without Tara's voice, this band only has music. Tara's voice was the darkest, most awesome sounding voice for this kind of music.

You people are missing the point. OF COURSE they got Anette because she is a "safe option." That was the whole point. After all the crap they had to endure with Tarja, they needed someone with whom they could tour, make some decent music, and get along with. It's their way of healing.

May be you're right, in fact different people have different tastes, but it's difficult to me to be switched from one style for another. it's silly to hate Anette, I know, but I can't like her.
I love Anettes voice IMO I don't care if you wanna argue the fact. She is amazing live, she sounds great and this song was what got her the job, this was her audition song the one that made her part of the band. To hear it in studio and not a bad recording might change your minds.
And I think personally she did all the old songs perfectly. I love nightwish and tarja, but after hearing anette I couldn't go back to tarja.
I'm truly convinced: she has more emotion in her voice than Tarja ever did. Tarja was a prefect singer, a little too prefect IMO, always worrying about hitting the right note and coming of a little robotic. Sometimes you just have to forget about the technique and focus on the emotion.
After leaving Tarja, Nightwish have made many mistakes.
1. They spoke, that Nightwish it's a way of life, but here more likely the group was arranged under a way of life and style Anette. Was it unimportant to them what to sing?
2. Anette have taken because of this song. If it was best, may be and me it was necessary to try, ha.

Tuomas Holopainen: We absolutely wanted to have something different. We didn't build a profile of what the new singer should sound like, what she should look like. The only thing we knew for sure was we did not want another classically trained operatic singer in the band. We thought it was time to move on and not find a copycat. I personally think we hit the jackpot with Anette because her voice is really strong, but she can also do some wonderful interpretations.

ok, i saw them live in toronto and i was completely blown away by this song. she sings it fan-fuckin-tastic...she makes it her own,which is wat i wanted if they were to sing the old songs...i support both singers! both tarja and anette bring something to Nightwish, hopefully in time people will realize that and give this stupid anette bashing up!

Wow, I never got into the Tarja vs Annete thing but she shows her true colors here and they suck. Without studio modulation she sux and can't hit the highs live, especially that high "C."

her voice is fantastic...what i think is really impressive is that she doesn't sing the chorus in head voice, she just belts it and i think it makes them sound more metal. obviously you can't expect her versions of old songs to sound the same as the originals, but surely you'd be even more disappointed if you went to a nightwish gig and they didn't play any old stuff?

I saw their gig yesterday, and man it was so fantastic! And I've seen Nightwish live with Tarja, and now with Anette and Anette is at least as good as Tarja, maybe even better. I loved it. And Ever Dream was maybe the best song of the night!

Anette has her way to sing old Nightwish songs and I just can't get used. This song is really the worst I think... She changes the melody of the chorus and she modulates in an awful way at the end... Really really bad song.

One thing us real Nightwish fans got to relize. Some people didnt like tarja's opra voice. Infact alot of my friends didnt. BUT now i got them to listen to the new cd and they cant seem to get enough. So they lost some fans BUT gained alot of new fans also. If i went to the new concert and they didnt play some old songs i would of been pissed,as other would of been. DEAL WITH IT

Hey, you dont get to say "deal with it", you cant make people change their opinions to match yours. If your friends didnt like tarja's voice then they didnt like nightwish, so they can go off and listen to lacuna coil, christina would suit them. Tarja has excellent voice, unique in a way that either you love it or not. Anette's voice is just not that. Everyone could listen to her, non metalheads even (like LC) and if you think thats a good thing i'd advise you to think it over

I saw them play live in Worcester MA and I thought that live she was excellent. This video does not do her any justice at all. My friends and I are die hard nightwish fans and hearing her play this song live brought tears to my eyes. It was that well done. The whole concert was so good that my arms were sore for two weeks from all the fist pumping! so all you nay sayers need to realize Tarja although very talented was a bitch and fucked the band so they kicked her out end of story.

I read that some people were leaving concerts for not being able to listen to her anymore, cause she screams so much. And other ones wrote that she is getting better. I've seen newer videos, she still strains with these high notes, but at least she let go that yodeling part in Wishmaster. Still don't like the way she does it with the old songs. You don't need to be opera to hit high notes right, listen to Sharon from Within Temptation. She hits them so easily.

Well then listen to newer stuff and touring live, then you can make a solid statement about Sharon's singing. She is all about high. Anette can hit some "highs", but with very huge efforts, and sometimes it all reminds of screaming. That is why people were leaving NW concerts. That was all about my point.
I would still have those ears checked just in case ;)

I think Anette should not sing the old music in the nightwish with the tarja, because her voice doesn't combine with the type of vocal demanded by the music, perhaps because we accustomed to hear these music with the tarja and it is strange to hear with the anette

But man, cut the girl some slack! Ppl compare her to an opera singer! C'mon! There aren't a lot of ppl who can do what Tarja does and apply it to metal! Plus, a band has to have all-in-all a certaint relationship, a chemistry if you like, that Tarja had lost during the last concerts, and it showed.

Although Anette doesn't have Tarja's voice, and IMO she has a really nice one (listen to the live vids of the new songs pls), she has given NW a new energy, and I think she's, step by step, making herself worthy of being the new singer, even under that really big shadow that Tarja left behind

she sounds different, ok. but i think her voice fits good with the songs (nothing against tarja, i love her voice!) she sounds a bit like a girl, i mean, her voice is very tender at some parts, but this is great i think. i like for instance sleeping sun very much with her voice and she fits good with marcos voice. i think it's good as it is now

She sounds too punk/popish. I am from Southern California and was a fan of Tara's VOICE with the music. You need 2 elements to make a good sound. Music, and voice. Both together make the band. Without Tara's voice, this band only has music. Tara's voice was the darkest, most awesome sounding voice for this kind of music.

You people are missing the point. OF COURSE they got Anette because she is a "safe option." That was the whole point. After all the crap they had to endure with Tarja, they needed someone with whom they could tour, make some decent music, and get along with. It's their way of healing.
Instead of bashing Anette, you should give her your gratitude. In a very real way, she is keeping Nightwish alive.

I love Anettes voice IMO I don't care if you wanna argue the fact. She is amazing live, she sounds great and this song was what got her the job, this was her audition song the one that made her part of the band. To hear it in studio and not a bad recording might change your minds.
And I think personally she did all the old songs perfectly. I love nightwish and tarja, but after hearing anette I couldn't go back to tarja.

I'm truly convinced: she has more emotion in her voice than Tarja ever did. Tarja was a prefect singer, a little too prefect IMO, always worrying about hitting the right note and coming of a little robotic. Sometimes you just have to forget about the technique and focus on the emotion.
