  • Wow..I will use it if am ever attacked by a bear

  • Is there a technique for when they bearhug under the arms, or under one arm and over the other? I assume it would be similar but I was curious.

  • have you tried it on a 6'2" 300 pound man thats out to break you? good luck...

  • Very effective technique

  • head butt to the nose as hard as you can will blacken both his eyes and cause tears.

finish him off with straight punch to the chin for the knockout.

    no fancy moves needed here.

  • give him a head butt with the back or top of your head. hit him in the face. it's the top or back of your head versus his face

  • LOL if you hurt ur self with a head but your not doing it right

  • Steven Seagal is the master of Aikido

  • It's a nice move overall but it's pretty easy to stop the throw, my cousin tried it on me but all I did was twist on instinct and it messed up his throw

  • @tsunaxkun Most aikido techniques will fail if you don't recieve training in person, not to mention this isn't a traditional aikido attack. Traditional aikido attacks focus on stopping a person from drawing their weaponry, front bear hugging someone like this would of got you stabbed by a knife in most cases.

  • awwwww :3

  • when your in this position you can just throw the person side ways with you foot sticking out this will take them down and and slam them hard.

  • I feel bad for daniel always getting trown around hehehe

  • I thinks its interesting to see the conections with Aikido and Ninjutsu

  • u no y cops r such good fighters? Bcuz 1. power in #'s(more & more will come) 2. a gun, other non lethal weapons. 3.the law(rite 2 use deadly force) 4.10yrs in prison 4 assulting a cop, death 4 killing 1. 5.can b assholes & start stacking ridiculous charges on u bcuz in end judges & jury believe the cops. 6. 4 the most part their above t/law. So alot of cops think their bad asses but don't realize in most scenarios the suspect is fighting defensively w/intent 2 get away not fighting back

  • @str8bigr1 Cops can't use lethal force unless its being used against them, so if someone is just running they arent allowed to simply start firing their guns to kill. And anyone who is willing to try and kill a cop is not in a mindset where prison time or death is a very intimidating consequence. Cops always assume the worst, a jury conviction or court sentencing doesn't help a dead cop.

  • I want to see that throw at 100%

  • It doesn't work!

  • @brmourao : If it's this specific technique you're talking about, I assure you it does work - you may be doing it incorrectly. If it's Aikido in general, then I recommend you take a free class and see for yourself - it most definitely works when done correctly.

  • awesome video. this guy does a great job of explaining things.

  • This bear hug is the most stupid attack! It would be too funny! You can use your fists, your head, your legs...Hope noboby would use that!

  • @jossg123 Sometimes, when you get too close a distance after exchanging blows, you'll resort to a move similar to a bear hug which aims to throw your opponent. You'll never know until you're in a fight, it's common.

  • @chrisdottanck I agree with you. But, if you're so close to your opponent, you better push him in order to break his balance or do something else. If you let him a second, you might be in trouble! To be honest, I'm not a master, but I take a look at a lot of martial arts. Every day I learn...

  • @jossg123 Well yeah, I guess it's just a matter of preference and reflexes. ;)

  • @chrisdottanck umm...instead of all that wouldn't an knee 2 the balls HARD! works 4 me when they attempt an bear hug, if they lift u up i move my hands "twist & pull" on the balls! very effective but not aikido though

  • @Wolfsbane909 Hah, nice one. There are various counters to this offence, whatever your mind gives as a first reaction, and if it works, it works. ;)

  • @chrisdottanck there r nerve strikes too that can be used with this techinque. his initial "push" is an nerve strike 2 the kidneys, use ur thumb 2 hurt the kidneys. i can't tell u about the second final nerve strike as we DON'T want goons learning this, e-mail me if interested. no matter how big & strong they r nerve strikes will work 4 anyone! Aikikai FTW

  • As if that would work. They would be charging at you. It's absurd.

  • I totally agree with you! razorray3000

  • who in the hell in real life is going to bear hug you only if your pissed at the guy and say give me a hug and do that sht and start the fight

  • First crawl, then stand up, then walk, then jog, then run and finally, sprint... now you can teach a technique or use it in a real fight.

  • In the "clinch" or at close range a larger opponent will usually have a tendency to "BEAR HUG" you then, lift his opponent and deliver a devastating throw! truss! razorray3000

  • a bear hug is not neccesarily a type of technique as much as it is a tye of 'brute force' move. me and my brother fight around a good bit, and aloof times find ourselves almost trying to football tackle eachoher (bear hug, if you will.) so in panic, an attacker will likely end up trying to tackle; or bear hug (street fighting& such)

hope that explained it a little from my perspective

    though

im not sure about alot of aikido, but it may be a move.

  • @rokey12 lol?? If someone just grabs you like that...

  • Sensei beautifull, make mi the Kokyunage papito

  • poor Daniel :))

  • i agree the video serves its purpose

But real aikido fights looks like a street brawl.

The techniques go through the window fast. The defender must be allowed to do 1 or 2 followup moves for any aikido defense to be worth its salt.

It is outdated n serves an interest other than helping the people to truely defend themselves

  • I hav seen hapkido guys fighting each other. When they do, it looks nothing like the training in class. UMMM.

  • "Hapkido guys" ? Right. These guys are Aikido using Hapkido techniques very slowly so you can see what there doing. This is an EDUCATIONAL video, not a movie, or a street fight, or video game. If they went like it's suposed to go, someone would be hurt in training, and you couldn't learn what they are teaching. No True Martial Artist would trash talk another Martial Artist. If you had a teacher, he would be embarrassed.

  • my challenge is accepting that the students always accommodate the coaches. There should be an opportunity to fight back. After the technique has been learnt by the student. A technique is proven only done under full resistece and stress. I have nothing against the purpose of these videos but i hav never seen in my Aikido classes or others an opportunity for this. There is always accommodating of the coach. if you hav footage of post it.

  • I understand what you mean, I feel like some techniques are only learned at face value and are never really understood.

  • When you're good enough to start training in randori, you will have plenty opportunity for resistance.

  • Just want to mention, not to give people the wrong impression when saying Judo is a "soft" art: If you ever been thrown successfully, you are off your feet, through the air and flat out so fast and solidly, that other that your opponent's control witholding the full impact of yourself to the mat, it can be be quite disarming. And humbling. Nothing soft about it. :)

  • my understandin is that a Japanese removed the striking, and the more painfull chokes and locks and offered a more "gentle" way to the Jujitsu. So gentle in this context means less dangerous than jujitsu not in general "gentle" .

  • Isn't Aikido a soft art though?

  • I wish they would play these in full motion after re-running the step scene. Just to get a picture of what it looks like.

  • this teacher & series has been a great help to me thanks

  • Mytzplitz, If someone combines Aikido with Karate Kyokushin, for example, he'll be a serious opponent, trust me...

  • Certo se un avversario cerca di abbraccirti può funzionare, ma se ti placca di forza nn funziona!

  • poor kid

  • love it

  • LMAO so many people saying akido doesn't work. My brother did it for less than a year and broke a bouncers arm using simple and basic moves.

  • So much for the way of harmony eh?

  • si claro, como el agresor sea fuerte eso no sale...

  • Aikido won't work in Real life....Why it's so hard to understand that. It's a graceful art but useless in real life. It might work with police NOT because it's effective, but probably because the opponent won't fight an Law officer and risk to get years behind bars.....In street fight doesn't work, actually in the streets even Boxing is more effective.

  • Sorry to desilusion you ! I came from oder marcial arts stiles as well . But as I got to learn Aikido I was uterly surprised. In fact each of their tecnics are so pwerfull that the fighters agree not to opose hard against it in training otherwise there would be loads of broken bones and some fatal incidents as well. That is the reason why they look so tamed and controled . Street fight is diferent... but any well trained marcial art atlete can overcome a not trained thug on the street...

  • That's right. Aikido one amongst several arts I have learned. And it surprises me how powerful and useful it can be. It is so, elemental it can be applied to other arts without changing much of the other arts technique even. Aikido is a very useful martial art! Even in real life

  • It worked for me in real life. Those who study it seriously, understand how powerful it is, and why it works.

Advanced Aikido doesn't require momentum or telegraphed attacks.

  • Oh gee, if it doesn't work in real life, how come I've won many fights using Aikido? It does work, sorry to tell you.

  • You guys can say whatever you want but Aikido is ineffective. May be one of you guys can try to show all your "real" aikido power in some MMA competition. I'm so curious to see how fantasy Aikido will do against real "proved" martial arts like BJJ, Muay thai, etc...

    Stop dreaming! Get real!

  • mma guys need to read the rules once in a while. Aikido is not permitted in MMA. NO SMALL JOINT MANIPULATION. I have dan grades in Aikido , kali, and Brazilian Jujitsu. TRUST ME....AIKIDO WORKS. Look up YOSHIMITSU YAMADA

  • Ok, fair enough. Since you CAN'T have aikido in MMA competitions....Just post a video with real life situation here @ youtube.....C'mom you not going to say that there's not even one bad guy with aikido skills out there....Make a Kimbo Slice's style video. Ohhh I know it's against the aikido rules right....bla..bla..bla....

  • Dude...you´re a fart!

  • Wow....Wise words....Thank you so much. ;)

  • I think you misunderstand the concept of aikido. Aikido is one of the 'soft' forms, like judo. It is not meant to be a 'hard' combative art like karate. What you need to understand is that jiu-jitsu is a martial art derived from judo and some other forms; it is a hybrid form. At its heart, Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu is a soft art, designed so that a smaller person can defend himself against a larger opponent. That is the same thing aikido strives for.

  • Wow...you really good with words...let me see... you learned that in Aikido right?? That's how you beat your opponent? You look at him and scream out: Ohh you're a cock..dahh...you're a fart... ohh you're a scumbag and then....BANG your opponent drops dead. Take it easy brainy...Your vocabulary is very dangerous =D

  • Eat shit douche bag guy

  • Your mom said Hello. =D

  • things like this wont work in real life.... these people are demonstrating, they arent actually fighting back, so it is not as easy as it looks

  • Learned these techniques after the Rodney King beating. (Not much of a beating). It works, I assure you. Take a class for free locally. You will see. Nikkyo is very painful. Works great in police work.

  • my dad is a former police and he beats every fucker even fighting 10 guys!!! using aikido!!!! karate!!! and boxing principles

  • Indeed. The throw is slow and soft because the attack is. Aikido is all about using the attacker's momentum against them. Of course the attacker can attack faster/stronger. But that would end up hurting the attacker a lot.

  • How do u break his grip? Your Uke just let go of you after you attempt to throw him. A strong opponent will not break his grip simply because your hands are on him; also, sometimes they lift you off the ground in order to reduce resistance.

  • Whole body > hands / wrists.

Have you ever twisted a stick or something to get someone to let go? It's simalar to that.

  • teh method of bear hug is abit high (above the elbow) which gives the opponent the chance to use his two hand. Usually is hug just along the elbow and waistline. So head will it be more effective?

    lekido

  • My training partner is 6'5" and 360lbs. This stuff works! I was looking for aikido when I found hapkido. Very similar, painful, low effort, and effective. Personally, I'd like to see more of the forward/rearward variants if that's possible. Not complaining, just trying to give an idea to improve on some already very good videos.

  • not to sound dumd but will aikido throws work on some one who is about 180-250.

  • Absolutely. (If executed correctly, that is.)

Most "throws" either break the attackers balance (examples: this vid, Ikkyo, ...) or twist a part of the attackers body (using levers to minimalize the required strenght) so thesame has to break his balance himself or suffer injury. (examples: Kotegaeshi, Shihonage, ...). Very often both are part of the technique.

However, since you often use the attackers momentum it will work with (almost) every attacker. (again, given it's correctly executed)

  • in tenshin aikido of calderon sensei, he always want the attack close to real and in full speed that's why the technique and the outbalancing are effective. calderon sensei is a student of Steven Seagal.

  • in aikido, we're not allowing people to grab us as much as possible. this attack is almost impossible to happen for a good aikidoka. this technique is just in case.

  • Nice MC Hammer pants dude!!

  • hm.. i like this aikido, seems like the only teqnique that can counter some real life street-fighting.

  • that doesnt look easy to do when its a big person thats attacking you .

  • i love aikido, nevertheless, they don't attack really strong, and there are many probabilities that your oponent could grab or attack you anyway, becouse you really don't cancell him at all...~Thank you anyway for that!was nice!
